The People's Court

The plaintiff claims her former friend and roommate threw away her belongings, and is suing her for the cost of them. The defendant states that the plaintiff was homeless, so she took her in to live with her rent-free for eight months. When she finally moved out, she left some of her belongings behind for over a month. The defendant has filed a countersuit for unpaid back rent.

My guess is bipolar or another mood disorder. I have bipolar and I've snapped like that over stupid crap. It sucks because you live with horrible regret that haunts you, while you've left a trail of pain in your wake. Doesn't matter if you're a genius or not, if your emotions are out of control, everything else is affected.

The defendant should unfriend the plaintiff for life. I would. The plaintiff isn't sorry at all, she is vindictive and only playing for the cameras. Those texts demonstrate what kind of person she is. One bad text can be sent in anger not the number the plaintiff did. Plaintiff slept on her couch, rent free for 8 months. Sounds like someone I knew who abandoned all their things, and left it up to me to get rid of everything. She then demanded money, and said how I was letting her starve in another state. She even told the judge I was holding her stuff hostage. All I did was put her things in storage, and she refused to pick them up when she moved back in state. She also gave our family dog away, and blamed me when the people she gave it to abused her. Then she had to put the dog down, and she blamed me and said I could've helped pay for it. Also bought her pizza with what little money I had when she got back from out of state, and I gave her money. She complained saying I didn't care about her, but was letting the people she lived with eat up the food I bought for her. I got blamed for everything, and she never seen any fault in her actions or anyone else's. She's sick!

We have a simple minded lady in our town and one day my father noticed this lady murmuring to herself...my father got curious and asked her what's the matter, and the lady replied she was annoyed with one of her relatives who kept on hounding her for payment of money she owed...then suddenly her face let up and she said " Oh I know now how to fix this annoying issues...I will pay him! now" In other words, the simple-minded lady in our small town is smarter than the plaintiff..

The ungrateful friend did a favor to the real friend by removing her self from her life. Some " friends" start hating on you way before you even notice or sometimes like in this case, you never realize you had more of an enemy than an actual friend. It is sad but at the same time Im glad the good friend has gotten rid of such awful woman.

Some people can be strange. It has happened to me, several times over. Been kind and loving, and had it thrown back in my face. However, I still hold my head up high, as I have no regret, no shame, no guilt, and I believe the defendant in this case feels the same, and rightly so. Some people treat kindness with suspicion. Maybe they have never experienced kindness without an ulterior motive before, and get triggered. Seems to me like that is exactly what happened here. The plaintiff is an extremely damaged person.

Perfect example of why you need to exercise self control when you’re hurt or angry. You CANNOT unsay words! Better to just walk away or put the phone down, cool off, then engage with a level head.

Gosh you can't help anyone out anymore. And its sad that people go for the jugular and bite your head off during an argument instead of just going their separate ways for a bit and cool off then talk about it and make up later when tempers aren't so high. This happens too much with life long friends and family members.

I disagree wit the judge. The plaintiff is not sorry at all. She didn’t start crying until the judge went in on her and she saw she was not winning and her true colors were shown for the world to see. Why is it always the ppl that needed help are so angry when the helper doesn’t want to cater to them any more?

Hi. I felt that judge Milian beneath her competence of the profession and practice, has a relatively soft heart for people who in front of her appear vulnerable combined with unfortunateness or helplessness. I think that there are personal experience and exposure to life circumstances (relevant to one's career) which can aid, in this area, the ability to see through or one to read people. It was clear that the judge did sympathize with and recognize the defendant's apparent compassionateness, and as a good human being besides being a judge repeatedly reminded the plaintiff of same, but I could still detect that she saw the plaintiff's crying not a way to make her case less ridiculous, but instead, a way of remorse. Actually, people are very difficult to be judged. Somebody in the comments guessed that perhaps the plaintiff is jealous of the defendant and it is not wrong, it is not impossible. Even one's own sister is of the other. Or a mother of her daughter/s. Sometimes friends are better in this regard, but it is very much a human nature. I personally am more fortunate than many that I was hardly treated badly by sore, narrow minded, or petty people, but i have my share of knowing who are genuine/sincere and who are not so. Nonetheless, my conscience taught me to be more carefree in this regard, to keep it (conscience) clear, thus, free.

This case shows how hatred builds up and gets imbedded in a person- and the whole friendship is completely destroyed. Best thing to do is ignore and not respond to any ill talk - that way it doesn’t grow , friendship remains. In this case, putting the feelings aside, nobody did anything that they weren’t supposed to do, so nothing is due to any litigant. Perhaps give it some time, and let the disputes be forgotten and bygone , and perhaps they could reconciliate .

I feel like the defendant probably gossiped (which she had a valid reason) to other people about the plaintiffs lack of responsibility in picking up her stuff and that's what sent the plaintiff over the edge.

That's what happens when you help people when they are broke. As soon as some money gets in their hand Their true color come out. Last night a friend ask me for a loan, I gave him what I have. It is very difficult for a lot of people to be honest when it comes to repay relatives and friends. (She covet her friend)sound funny but if you know my Aunt you would understand. The defendant is right, she was her enemy long before. Growing up my best friend envy me for my girlfriend, I remember actions and words, but I couldn't think that a friend would envy you.I realize it until I was in my late 40s.

Sadly it’s the truth. Reason why I don’t have many “friends” because they take your kindness as far as they can take it and when you don’t let it go further they turn it around on you and make you seem like the bad guy!

The plaintiff is clearly mentally ill or psychotic or you can pick whatever's behind door #3. The defendant took this woman into her home & allowed her to live there rent-free for 7-9 months rather than being left to live & survive on the streets & this is how the plaintiff rewards her kindness. "No good deed goes unpunished" & that is abundantly clear in this case. I can guarantee you that this plaintiff will need "Help" in her life again down the road & she will then regret the day that she burned her bridge to this thoughtful & helpful former friend.
