Yes, I had to reply that last battle myself after I realized that perhaps it would have played a bit differently with Virginia's squad attacking. The funny thing is that in the next cut-scene Virginia tells everyone that Giethe told her he didn't remember her even if you didn't in fact get this dialogue in the game.

Does it matter if I let virginia kill the boss

Apart from getting some extra dialogue, I don’t think it matters.
