Great video! I've been trying to find out how fast each size goes, but people on forums were saying like 5mph for a 24inch. Glad to find out that's wrong.

19in 2.5" wide tire 125mm 4.92in 9.5 - 4.92 = 4.58in 24in Muni 110mm 4.33in 12 - 4.33 = 7.67in 26in = 27.5 Oracle 110mm 4.33in 13.75 - 4.33 = 9.42 29in 110mm 4.33in 14.5 - 4.33 = 10.17 26in Schlumph 1.5gear 150mm 5.90 13 - 5.9 = 7.1in If 52in, 26 - 5.90 = 20.1in So the 26in Schlumph 1.5gear gives the benefit of a 52in at a 13in lower wind profile than an actual 52in. Would be good to also compare the weight of an actual 52in with the 26-in Schlumph. 36in 110mm 4.33in def slower tempo 18 - 4.33 = 13.67in 24in Vintage crank mm in? Full wheel + tire diameter / 2 = full radius Convert crank mm to inches = radius reduction factor Radius - radius reduction = pedal height off ground. PHOTG + rider's height = wind profile Lowest pedal height = lowest wind profile. Compare to automobile tests done on low wind profile to get an idea of the factor. The individual rider's optimal crank length + wheel size combination can only be found during trial tests to find where the maximum power endurance of the rider is. Wheel size and crank length could be isolated from wind profile by doing the test on home rollers. Then take that data outside and repeat the tests in open air to introduce the wind resistance factor.

Fun comparison. I have tried similar things with my unis but I do not have the skill, quality, selection, or technology you have. I have measured out the circumferences of the tires, and tried various comparisons, but yours was much more interesting. Keep up the good work.
@oddacorn
@oddacorn 4 жыл бұрын
Why would you measure the circumference when you could just measure the radius and multiply it by 2 Pi? I thought all unicyclists were nerds, just like me! Ha ha, JK!

Great video, Terry. Is that red one a Columbia Unicycle, made by Columbia Bicycles, Westfield, Massachusetts? Every kid in my neighborhood had that one...came in blue or red, 20 or 24 inch. I lived in Westfield. Maybe u can do an image search of it to see if my guess fits the specifics of your red one. Wayne.

Interesting, that the figure in the end shows no big difference between 29 and 26 size unicycle when it comes to speed.

@@bighug6502 I can keep max 17-18 kmh on a good road without any obstacles. But if you train, you can improve your max speed and also the confidence. Shorter cranks can give you additional 1 kmh. I highly recommend to use knie and elbow protectors while riding at high speeds.

@@bighug6502 I make 7.5 km through the busy city in a 40 minutes. On a nice bicycle road workout traffic lights I could ride 20 km under 1.5 hours. I imagine, after a long day in the office this kind of ride back home may be less plesent.

Your monocycle don’t have the Schlumpf gear? If not, do you think it is possible to go something like 20-25 km/h on 20 km ride? (Without traffic)

Nice video, can you give us what would be the cruising speed (just in comment section) ? You showed the maximum speed but as I seek information before buying, I would like to know the speed I could keep in a 5 miles distance for example for a 24er wich suits beginners. Thank you

Speed estimates really depend on the rider's ability, fitness level, crank size, tire type, terrain, whether on road or trail, or on flat, uphill, downhill, etc. Speaking for myself only, on smooth, flat road, I would average 5-7 mph on a 24 just cruising along.

Great videos. It seems there is little info on 32’s. It would be great if someone like you did a review video at some point, especially comparing it to a 29 and 36. It seems that is the only mass produced size you don’t have. Any reason why? My guess the top speed would be 15.

Very interesting video,Terry! It gets me to wondering: have you ever ridden a 36er with Schlumph hub? There's a video of two guys on KZbin (which you've probably seen at kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqavlnhtqKqGm6s) passing a bicyclist on geared 36ers. Are you ever tempted to gear your 36er? (Money being no object, of course.)

+kstadden I may be crazy, but I'm not crazy, lol! No, I draw the line at my G26er, which I love for riding fast through smoother singletrack. But I would not gear up my 36er since ungeared I can ride so fast that a fall could be devastating enough, let alone falling at geared speeds!
