I had the motor boating sound from my subwoofer, and as you suggested, I removed the glue which had become conductive with age. And like a miracle the subwoofer now plays normal as one would expect it to sound.

Thanks Mike. My 2510 was off freq receiving scratchy / hiss. Now it's clear after partially removing glue between contacted leads. I'll continue with a full removal and do a cap change. If you have a list of all the swap-ready caps i'd love to see it. taking notes from this vid too. Thanks!

So let me see.....I think you said, " Get the Glue out " ! Lol.....! After sitting literally for years, I broke out a 2600, and an HTX - 100 , with limited success ! Caps were probably just about shot, but the Radio's both came back to life ! But now I'll be going in for surgery, to try and remove this glue ! Don't know the age of this post, so I may not hear back, but I was wondering if you pre - heat the glue with a heat gun, prior to the picking, or is this glue brittle, and easy to dislodge ? Fingers crossed, I'll have good results ? And this all began, because I recently purchased a President Lincoln 2 Plus ! Phone seems to do O.K., but forget about C.W. ! And the receiver distorts on strong SSB signals, etc. ! You get the picture ! As far as I'm concerned, they're Junk ! These old rigs may not be perfect, but beat the new ones, all to Hell, IMHO ! Thank You for your interesting posts !

I have a HR2510 I'd like to send you, I bought it used about 25? years ago. It was not working right the last time I hooked it up. I hope it's not the glue causing the problem. I have to head up to Cabela's this weekend coming, so I could drop it off if need be.

Here in Australia I can't use Hot Glue in radio's that end up in the west......the glue softens and falls off or releases whatever its holding.....just to hot out there.....I use Neutral Cure Silastic. (Silicone)

Harb's Elecronics Lab The stuff I use has a melting point of 400°F. I don't use the hobby/craft stuff, it's a industrial hot melt glue.

Harb's Elecronics Lab I buy glue sticks from a lady in China on Aliexpress. She sells 11mm sticks about 270mm long that are black. Now this stuff is the absolute best I've come across it sticks like the proverbial and takes some fair amount of heat to get it molten again. I'm in south east qld and have had no complaints about this I used heaps of it when I was repairing UHF handhelds under contract that were used in very rugged situations. I'll find her link for you you can contact me cooldrivecommunications@gmail.com

Hopefully a simple question, what is the little add in board and the transistor/resistor with the brown wire added to the bottom of the PCB on a HR2510? I don't see any mention of it in the service manual.

My Radio Shack PRO-2006 scanner has that same brown 'goop' on certain parts of the circuit board and the scanner recently started locking up and I'm thinking it might be due to this goop issue. It didn't happen all of a sudden, but rather, slowly began having issues with the LCD where I started seeing anomalous segments appearing in the display. It would go away after a while but the more I used it, the worse it got and now it turns on but is locked up.

I'm in the process of doing this on my HR2600. Do you recommend just picking out the bond or do you use alcohol to remove it? That bond on the coils looks like a delicate job. Thanks for the video! 😀👍

I'm working on a 2510 at the moment, being a pain, input current increases rapidly whilst tx is on (starts off ok, but then starts to climb, increasing rapidly), I already cleaned off the glue, and replaced both the final and driver, and all the caps, no different! Have you ever come across that fault?
@mikesradiorepair7 жыл бұрын
+TheDefpom What does the output waveform look like, is there an oscillation? Is there power out in SSB with no modulation? What does the driver and final bias current look like.
@chubsthegreat80896 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike what do you mean that if everything is working but no modulation in any mode to trace the mic audio?

Dont know much about the technical side of radio . Have you checked your fuse on power lead , also if your running radio of power supply check voltage .hopefully its a cheap fix .

Would there be any of that in the meter circuitry? My meter does not operate properly and it is developing black specks.
@mikesradiorepair7 жыл бұрын
+kb5wqw There is glue inn the CPU board but where it usually is wouldn't effect the meter. Spots on a LCD, if they are there when it's off it's the display starting to go bad. They all do this eventually.
@KB5WQW7 жыл бұрын
Yup the specks are always there and the meter is "stuck" to the right. BTW, it is a 2600 used in the mobile, currently. Oh well. Hopefully we'll figger out something.

Hi Mike, don`t know if you can help me but i have a Mk.1 President Lincoln that i bought cheap off Ebay. It was stored for many years not being used so when i got to fire it up all seemed OK, its got RF power "about 17w" am-fm. BUT NO modulation !!!! Done the DE-glue now have about 21w but still no modulation...checked the standard mike and that seems fine, any ideas ??? Thanks Chris.
@mikesradiorepair6 жыл бұрын
If you have no modulation in any mode they trace the mic audio.

Mike, can you use the service manual for this radio to align an emperor TS5010? The service manual for the TS5010 is terrible.
@mikesradiorepair7 жыл бұрын
FelixTheHouseFreak The Emperor is just a cheaper copy of the Uniden and for the most part are the same.
@WelshWidgetMan2O1O7 жыл бұрын
Didn't the Emperor replace the HR2510? I remember wanting one (Emperor) back in the day but I bought a mint condition HR2510 that had never been modified so I'm happy. I still need to remove the brown goop in it though. I had an old ChipSwitch from the early 1990's I installed into my 2510 and it works fantastic. When 12-meters is open my 2510 works great on that band. Needs an alignment though.

Say there Mike. I'm a trucker and I have been a user of Cobra products since they went to 40 channels. I have a 29 LTD that I have had for years. I am looking to get a new radio that has a few bells and whistles that can reach out and touch without costing me a gazillion dollars. I had a President 2510 at one time but I just didn't like the screen in the truck so I sold it to my friend. Any suggestions on a radio or two that would suit what I need? I like the new Cobra with the different color screens and the Bluetooth but I heard you say that they were "JUNK". I understand where you're coming from. Thanks for your time and patience.
@mikesradiorepair7 жыл бұрын
+Ralph Reynolds I have a President Lincoln II+ on my bench and McKinley's in every vehicle. Good build quality, have "bells and whistles" like your looking for, have good warranties and from my perspective most importantly I have the factory service manuals for them. If you want a radio with higher output look at the Lincoln II+. It's a higher output 10 meter radio that can be expanded to CB, has multi color display, Roger beep, echo, memory channels, scanning and more. You can check out their radios in the President Electronics USA website. Also, if you buy a President antenna at the same time you buy a radio it extends your radio warranty from 2 to 5 years.

hot glue wont melt in high usage situations?

+ᗒ╬ᗕ1112223333111ᗒ╬ᗕ Hot glue melts around 400° F. If the glues melting in your radio the glues the least of your concerns, it's either on fire or you dropped it in a volcano. :-)
