A more down to earth evaluation. Thank you. Everything I have read from others had to lead me to believe all you were getting was a unit with rear sensor and arrows if you went with the R7. My R3 has proven itself to be a great performer and I will stick with it.

Used the Valentine One for more than 10 years, the arrows aren't reliable because radar bounces all over the place, only difference I get with the Uniden R7 over the Uniden R3 is better detection from the rear because of the rear antenna on the Uniden R7.

I actually just returned my R7 simply due to its size. It was massive compared to my wife's V1 gen 2 and my old bell RX65. I'm not sure why we're using range as the new standard to judge radar detectors, as long as the warning is sufficient, that should perfectly suffice. I don't really need to be notified 5 minutes early. The thing I don't like about the r3, is why is the power on the left side? All My cars have a hard wired cable, but now that's on the wrong side, what the heck?

You need the range for instant on radar. You will only pick it up if it is turned on for a car ahead of you so the longer the range the more chance of picking it up.

Does it make a noise when you start your car with the detector plugged in?

It makes a startup sound. Not sure if there's a way to disable it, doesn't really bother me since I keep the sound relatively low.

Auto-lock is a feature will be on the R7 in the near future. That will be huge.

and two Radar antennas to detect cops pointing you from behind. R3 only has one froward facing Auto lock if your driving same spots it auto learns and auto locks out common places you may go to ie supermarket doors
