People wondering why the arrows make sense. I was pulled over when I first got my R3 because it went off, I slowed and then it stopped signaling. I went to pass a big group of cars so I could exit and one of the cars was a cop. Now you might say "well why did you speed past the cop car?". I live in texas. Cop cars can be unmarked mustangs, chargers, challengers, suvs, anything really. The cop had activated his radar then killed it so I stopped getting a signal. I thought it was either a cop behind who disappeared over the hill or exited. If the arrow had pointed forward, I would have looked at the group of cars more closely, or just slowed to fall back in behind the group. Arrows from My previous V1 had given me this info, and I really missed it when it died and I bought the R3.

I just recently bought a Uniden R3 thanks to your videos! I was almost scammed of buying the cheap $30 knockoff versions in Amazon 'coz it has very good reviews. I know that the reviews were most likely fake but I was still tempted due to the low price but after watching your videos, I was convinced of dropping the money instead and get the R3. This coming R7 seems really nice and I'm still on the 30-day window where I can return my R3 and maybe pre-order the R7 instead but probably won't do that. I like the concept of having arrows and knowing where the location of the signal is coming from but it's nothing that major for me. Like you mentioned, I'm in the "slow down when hearing beeps" bandwagon.. haha! So far I'm enjoying my R3 but one thing I would like to see in the future would be the ability of these radar detectors to have a bluetooth capability of be controlled by our smart phones when changing settings! How cool would that be?! I just find it so cumbersome when navigating through all the settings on my R3. Using a smart phone instead would be more ideal. They have started implementing this on routers... and even motherboards... why not radar detectors too?!

@VortexRadar I agree, situational awareness. If I just passed a police officer, is the signal I'm getting a new signal (in front) or the same one from behind (showing up again). Not as much an issue if your radar has bad off axis, or no rear antenna. Also, where I drive, a lot of side roads with police running radar off the highways. Good to know if the police officer is on my highway route of on a side road that may or may not be visible, especially at night.

It sounds like a winner EXCEPT, BSM filtering!!! If you have a RD that constantly falses, what good is it? I have a R3, I love it, but the BSM is driving me crazy. There are more and more vehicles on the road that trip (BSM) the R3. That is where Radenso may come in with good BSM filtering (not perfect but better than Uniden), and decent range but not great range like the Uniden R1, R3, and apparently the R7. I really feel that Uniden goes for extreme range, which is great, but at the cost of mediocre BSM filtering. I love fantastic range, but I find myself not on high alert when K band alerts go off. Where I live K-band is still used which is dangerous when you don't react like you would for a Ka alert. Maybe Uniden hasn't figured out how to do both, long range and BSM filtering with out significantly sacrificing K band range.

there are a few things the r7 needs, a rhd version, as well as k band band segmentation like on the dfr7. here in New Zealand we only have 34.7 Ka for all police patrol cars, no handheld radar (only laser but thats rare) and redflex digital cameras (kind of like mrcd) its a low power low frequency k band radar signal that varies from about 23.9 to 24.1 ghz, on the dfr7 you enable k1 and disable k2 and enable ka 5 and youre set (i also enable ka 4 and 6 for out of tune radar) the r3 doesnt have this low sweep like the r3 or the segmentation on k so ive ended up just turning k off entirely and relying on purely sight alone to spot cameras. they have a fairly short range so if youre fast enough on the brakes youll be fine combined with the fact they arent good at reading rapidly changing speeds theyre pretty much onl designed to get your average oblivious driver going 15k over that didnt even see the camera. all our mobile cameras have a large antenna in the middle as well as you can see the radar antenna and lenses through the glass and the stationary ones look like 3 cinderblocks strapped to a pole and we have no other traffic infrastructure that looks even vaguely similar but it would be nice to see what uniden does in the future

Have one on pre-order, and really look forward to using it, but coming from the Pro M, the reports on the BSM filtering is a little concerning. Looks like a trade off, but hopefully Uniden can make BSM improvements.

I probably won’t buy another Uniden until they work on BSM filtering. That’s the biggest issue with annoyance when running a detector these days and they’ve done nothing about it at all. Definitely not going to drop $700 on one that won’t shut up on K band any time a certain car drives by.

Just Some Guy yeah it’s when the detector goes off on K band any time certain types of cars are nearby. Acuras, Cadillacs, some GM cars and SUVs. It’s extremely annoying and basically makes K band useless. To me it’s the biggest problem and only getting worse. I assumed Uniden would be working on this. Looks like they aren’t!
@TheDumbOldGuy5 жыл бұрын
@@bwxmoto Something to consider: the Unidens have terrible BSM filtering because they are extremely sensitive for the longer range. Escorts have good BSM but shorter ranges. The truth is that you cannot have both as the strength of signal is how they perform the BSM filtering. I picked up a R3 for the long range on interstates and back roads where the slight signal might be a police officer over the next hill. But if I lived in the city where long range wasn't a primary concern, I would have bought the Max360 because of the BSM filtering and arrows. You have to choose based on what is important to you as not one detector does it all.
@bwxmoto5 жыл бұрын
its0nn0w top Unidens are completely digital now. I don’t buy that you can’t have good filtering as well as good range. They just need to figure out how to filter the BSM signals better. It’ll probably be with better algorithms or maybe it will take faster computing power or both. The argument that it’s “just impossible” is a farce.
@vidwannabe5 жыл бұрын
Wish Uniden would take a page from the network cables and put a metal shield to protect the release mechanism on the power cord. Bought the R3, and within 2 months, the release tab is broken on the power cord. Seeing as the power cord is going to be plugged and unplugged continuously, a small improvement on protection would offer longer usage (probably what they don't want to hear as replacement cords are $25).

I'm running an old Beltronics x65 pro series. Cant even find pictures of it online (new version looks different) and its range is great. Cost me 600 at the time and I like it overall but false alerts are getting ridiculous as it alerts to anything even the sun it seems like. I wanted the R3 for it being mostly superior to Escorts offerings but I see the benefit and want the arrows so I've been waiting for something like the R7. I have been really torn as $200 is $200. I'm going to wait for retail release and maybe a firmware update depending on how fast it comes out. I would miss the ambient sensor but I have manual lockouts, redlight cameras and an online database I can download updated locations into for traps cameras and hot spots already so just improved tech and some filtering vs none. If the filtering is not really much improved I can live without arrows for another 6 to 10 years unless they can improve it through software (should be able to if they invest the time once released. I also think the side button placement is a little dumb vs the front but with a remote button cable it should not be a big deal. Still really torn but appreciate the video's and look forward to more comparisons.

I have the R3 and the range is excellent. The BSM leaves a lot to be desired though. I live and work in Oklahoma with a 2 hour highway commute each way to work, so its great for the daily work drive grind on the highways. However, my GF lives in the Dallas area and when I go down to visit, the BSM alerts drives me crazy, almost to the point that I almost turn off the R3 and drive like a law abiding citizen. Only reason I don't is I have too much fun in the traffic driving my Camaro...lol. If Uniden can improve the BSM filtering via firmware updates, then I would look at getting the R7 for the arrows and auto lockout capabilities then pass the R3 to my gf or mount it in another vehicle of mine.

@@Toser28 spectre elite or even the next version up from the elite will not detect any undetectable radars. I work doing all the installations on radar the spectre & other equipment on highway patrols & unmarked cars. So I know what can be detected & what can't. At this stage the spectre elite only picks up an undetectable radar if the spectre & radar are sitting on a bench side by side, as for driving by a highway patrol with their spectre on full sensitivity does not detect the undetectable radar, & they don't drive around with the spectre on full sensitivity because of the spectre false alerting.

Hello Vortex Radar. I only care about range. I don't care about most of the features everyone else seems to want. I want the longest range for MRCD, MRCT, Strelka and Gatso and everything else. I want to know how each detector does against radar guns that are vertically and horizontally polarized. Not all radar guns are vertically polarized. I do like the arrows and the number of threats that the V1 gives. I don't like lockouts and if I had a detector with that feature I would not use it. If it sounds off at the local store then I know it's working. I do need RDD protection also. Range is the #1 feature I look for. I was hoping the V1 would keep up with the other units, I was waiting for updates but now believe it is like Lunis waiting for the Great Pumpkin to come. Keeping my eyes open for a new detector.

There are times that I don't know the road speed limit I get an alert but not sure if I should slow down or speed up to be at the speed limit.
