Hey Fifthcell, I'm trying to decide between the R7 and the Escort 360. I'm coming from an old Escort radar detector that I bought 8 or so years ago (yeah very ancient technology) I really love the display on the R7 and in watching Vortex great videos, the long range it has like the R3 does make it seem like a no-brainer kind of buy over the Escort 360 right??

Eric Seals are you talking about the Max360 or the Max360C? The 360C is the newer of the two and is priced similarly to the R7. If you are talking about the 360C then let me list some of the main advantages it has over the R7: - Wifi and Bluetooth capability - Escort Live - Auto GPS Lockouts (which will be coming to the R7 soon anyways, so that’s not really a big game changer when comparing the two) - Better BSM filtering The R7 has better range than the 360C, but is limited on some of the features the 360C has... If you want a long range detector, but don’t care about updating it manually or don’t care about phone connectivity and (honestly) minor differences in BSM falsing, than the R7 is the detector to go with.

Basically if I went the Escort route and can save $100 I can't go wrong with just the 360 right? Although that display on the R7 is really big and nice versus those tiny arrows on the Escort :-) And thanks for replying and helping me out. I'm planning on buying a radar detector this weekend. AND I'm coming from a real old Escort 8500, I just kept putting off getting one for years and the technology boost between that old thing and what's out now is amazing.

Well worth the money. The R1/R3 is still so popular/holding its value so I had no problem selling mine online quickly and put the $ toward the R7. So far very impressed with the R7. Uniden really came out of nowhere and is making some really awesome products.

I think laser testing should be part of your review.. If they are using a laser in the area it should pick it up.. They will help you adjust your speed.. It's not always about it being shot at you.. Here in Michigan they do that a lot.. Just saying.. Great video enjoying the content..

Hey there ricky rivera! A lot of people seem to be stuck deciding between the Max 360C and the R7. Let me help you out. Some of the main advantages the 360C has over the R7 include: - Wifi and Bluetooth capability - Escort Live - Auto GPS Lockouts (which will be coming to the R7 soon so that’s not really going to be a big deal) - Better BSM filtering The R7 has better range than the 360C, but is limited on some of the features the 360C has... Hi Ricky, save $, go with R3, running latest firmware available on Uniden site, you have a bug-free model that is incredibly good... Phenomenal range, high accuracy, and overall consistent. Get a used one on eBay for even more savings.

So I have a jeep Cherokee and I’m constantly getting k rear radar alert 24.186 which I think is my jeep radar. I have to turn down k sensitivity to 30% or lower. It’s annoying me. Can I not disable this actual frequency or am I locked into really low k band performance? Yes I run k narrow and k filter on.

They should have stuck with the display from the LRD950. It is beautifully designed. I like the scan display with the moving dot. I dont see why they changed to the oled displays that just seem to have problems and dont look as good.

Vortex I've already found some scratches on the front of my R7. I want to apply a simple plastic screen protector on the front of it to avoid getting more. I would assume clear plastic would not affect performance. What do you think? I also got a matte black screen protector so it will be even more concealed.

Here in NY state troopers use ka 3600 range and county cops use 24.1x range this will not work for me eliminating those. Dutchess county sheriff's use 24.1x radar range

I know this is a year old but I wanted to ask 2 follow up questions as I’m on the fence about detector. 1). Did the R7 get automatic lockouts so it learns the false alerts and mutes them on its own 2) Does the R7 have gps speed muting, not sure of the exact verbiage. Does it have a setting to if I’m doing say 555 in a 55 zone can it automatically mute itself? does the unit require any connection to WiFi or cellphone to have this capability? Ok bonus question, is there a unit that have those features with Blindspot blocking that you would say would be better than the R7? My driving is a lot of highway out of a large city, long range is my key but the blockout based on speed is also high on my list. I’m not always in a hurry so no reason for it to be making noise if I’m not breaking any laws. Thank you in advance

With the latest update, it caused the right side of the detector to remain in dim mode when in grey color mode. Bummer because grey is what I use as it matches my dash. Now grey is not usable. Looks to be a bug in the update. My guess is....whatever color you are programmed to when you update, that is the color you will have this issue with......just a guess. I wish I could add a picture here!

I purchased the blend mount for an Escort 360c for use with my R7. Just set up this morning and it works flawlessly. I do have a GMC SUV and have found BSM false is being detected for the rear of my vehicle? Anyone know when the BSM patch is coming out. Also the MRCD range displayed in the Dukes video is not that encouraging.

Just putting this out there, I love my R3, hate the Uniden branded hardwire cable. I've gone through three and now on my fourth. The mute button stops clicking and the plastic housing for the glass fuse breaks EVERYTIME. I finally just taped it and called it a day. I will say Uniden replaced all of them with no cost to me

I have an '18 CX-5 & was doing serious shopping for that particular vehicle w/ it's known BSM issues. I ultimately decided on the R3 for this reason alone. As Vortex stated in the video, due to the front antenna only on the R3, I do NOT experience the false alerts as I would w/ an R7 due to the rear antenna.

I just ordered my R7 and the visor clip you showed. I wonder if there is a window tint that could interfere with signal. I hear that there is window tint with a chrome type filament imbedded for light reflection or, maybe that only applies to mirror tinting which I don't have. Mine will be mounted on my visor and will have to 'look' through my windshield tint that extends about 8" down from the top of the windshield, and my antenna is fender mounted on my Hummer H3. I believe I will be ok though. With that said, the question is> Is there a window tint that will interfere with signals?

I just drove from Seattle to San Francisco . Thrilled with my Redenso Pro M. Spot on. Did 770 miles in 10 hours. Avg 75 the whole way. Alerted superbly. Thanks for showing these two next to each other. Mine is under my mirror with a Blendmount/MirrorTap. My thought was I would buy the r7 but it's a monster in size! My Pro M is like it is made for under my mirror. No R7 here. Don't need any arrows thank you.

Can you tell us why the R7 is easier to detect than the R3 with the radar detector detector? Also IMO value for value the R3 is a much better buy ( esp if you get a refurb ) than the R7 and the reason is that you only gain a few hundred additional feet of alert with the R7. Yes you have a rear antenna but how often is that useful? The R7 is out of reach for me and a lot of us here I am sure.

Would voltage be an issue? My truck didn’t come with a 12v output only 120v and usb a and c, as far as i know the usb por voltage is around 12.1 was wondering if that would affect the performance of the r7. Is there any cable for the r7 that has a usb power connection

Turn off POP detection. It’s not in use there and you’ll get false alerts like that. I’m not sure exactly what causes them on Uniden detectors since I also run with it off.

If the R7 has a pre-amp volume out port like on the Valentine 1, then you can use an outboard amplified speaker made by Ram Mounts. They JUST came out with it last week. It has a volume knob and a custom installer can remote-mount the knob for you. I like installing these speakers in front of the instrument cluster on my customer’s cars - they are hidden and it gives a “command voice” because the voice seems to emanate form inside the instrument cluster.

How many individual false alerts can it remember? I could drive in a 10x10 square mile here in Phoenix and have to mark probably 100 because of all of the radars on the sides of the road. And the r3 forgets and I have to remark them all or the time

There aren't a ton of tests in the first place. I've done some in the past, but it's a PITA and I haven't bothered since. I haven't seen too many other people do it either. It's not about ALP sales or any other laser jammer sales, but more about the issues that I covered in the video.

Do you find you're not getting enough range with your Max2? Are you having trouble finding the officers without arrows? It's really up to you and if you feel you'd benefit from its advantages.

@@VortexRadar The Max II has sufficient range and it's fast at alerting me of mobiles and stationaries. Arrows will be a nice thing to have though so I know exactly where they at. It's critical because in New Jersey, the troopers have only front facing radar antennas, so they can get us from behind. The Max II can definitely detect radar from behind, but it's not as far back as I would like it to be. But again, I live in Pennsylvania where our troopers use K band [Stationary Only]; great filtering is also a must. What do you recommend?

Isn't the r3 more sensitive then the r7 on 34.7

@@VortexRadar I own a r3 was going to buy a r7 but in your test the R3 alerted before the r7 on 34.7 did they give it a update to improve range?

I’m talking about the results from multiple tests against multiple guns with multiple copies of detectors in a variety of situations. You can certainly find occasional exceptions to the rule where things may look different, but in general the R7 will meet or exceed the performance of the R3. There’s a reason that I constantly stress not relying on any one single test to understand the big picture.

I know I’ll be sticking with the R3. It’s like Shania says arrows don’t impress me much.

The arrows are well worth it. Especially on freeway driving. I thought the same you until I got R7. Love it

K band goes off in shopping plazas so far even with filters on. It's best off in areas that don't use K.

DriveCFL I never run into K band detection and, thus, have never switched it on (5 years) - makes for a much quieter ride and real alert experience.

@@joshbrown7282 there is a county in FL that still runs it often. The Sheriff's dept does. When I go through there I need to have it on. In the Orlando area I don't think anyone is running it. I figured with the R7 it may be quiet with it on and the filters, but so far not the case. I have to try K narrow.

DriveCFL Great Info! The Quad Cities (IL/IA), Chicago, I-35 through MO, I-70 through KS, 54 through TX/OK/NM, Dallas/Fort Worth, and I-10 from El Paso to San Antonio have all run Ka exclusively. The only time I’ve been popped is by Lidar (not legal in TX 👎🏼).

@@joshbrown7282 thanks. Wow you must drive a good amount. KA is King. FL troopers run it. Many smaller agencies too. I had laser go off before and I thought they had me but it was the guy behind me. I had the alert. It was my old Cobra SPX 7800 I believe. I got lucky that day. There was a red light right after the alert and the leo pulled out behind me two cars back in the line. We start moving again and I'm thinking I'm toast and it was the guy behind me. Whoa!
