Thank you! I am 40 returning to campus. Online courses, working from home, living in campus townhouses. Whew! A little intimidating, but I never cease to amaze myself with my endeavors.

I went back to get my masters at age 45! I did it in international law, relations and economics and I am not certain that had I known the sacrifices involved I would have the courage to do it again. Financially, in terms of nervous stress and lack of sleep it was hard ( I had to work, study and take care of an alcoholic girl friend who wqas bed ridden a good part of the time as well as concentrate on my studies). I was driven and maintained a GPA of 3,8 I made valedictorian because I reckoned that if I was going to do it I might as well give it my best but I played quite a price putting on 20 kilos. I think that there is no point to go back to studies unless one is seriously motivated. It was not easy to be with students who were much younger than myself. I don't regreat it but it was a great strain. Thanks for your video. My experience was a plus but I had to make summaries and write them out over and over to be compettitive in relation to other students...For me it was worth it in terms of job opportunities and networking.

Hey Steve. I have just applied to go to University of East London to do a music degree. I'm 48 and pretty nervous to be honest. Fortunately, the years I've spent since leaving school have all been doing some kind of music related work. I wondered if you had any advice, as all the youtube video's on this subject seem to be from 21-28 year olds!

This was really inspiring.I'm 23 and I never completed secondary school.I left because of illness at the time and I do not have any, ok i have maybe three gcses (english and drama and something else) .I did try an access course but I found it to be too much work for one year at the time.I have since got my diagnosis of adhd and aspergers (which I beleive contributed to my not managing 3 different subjects in one year). For me it is more the constant fear that I am not smart enough because this is how I have always been treated. Also,I have so many interests ranging from occupational therapy, audiology, linguistics, archictecture etc. I have been learning Russian for six and a half years and have recently started learning Estonian. While I know I would really really enjoy a degree course of Comparative lit and Russian,I think about my future and I want to be able to be independant fincially and I am more convinced that there are more jobs in soething like say audiology than something with a base of Russian language and comparative lit. When I think of going back to education,I never think about the help i would get from the START gven my diagnosies, because well,I have never before entered an educational setting with the knowlege that i for certain, have them.Another aspect of this is, even though I have many interests I'm not sure i have found one profession where I could use them all. Here is what I know so far though :); I love children and have a high interest in disabilities,I love languages and linguistics,I hate maths, not particularly interested in science,i a, a trapeze artist and i love doing that but do not want to have my circus skills as a main career , i like helping people. :/I do a little bit of teaching trapeze but there is something in me which is not and neeeds to be fulfiloed accademically and i am not quite sure what subject will help me do this yet.

Hi Palesa. You're right, there is something out there for everyone, it's just finding that something that can be challenging. Life experiences usually open up more paths to getting closer to finding that thing that makes you tick. For some people education can be that key. It depends what is right for you. As a University we have a lot of support for our students, specialist support too. If you would like to talk over any options for studying here and the support you could get, do feel free to make contact with our Student Services department: www.nottingham.ac.uk/studentservices/contact-us/index.aspx Best of luck in your future explorations.

Non traditional students are 25 and older. That’s probably what they’re referring to when they say “mature”. My guess is they are in their late 20’s.

Due to mental health during my undergraduate degree, although I graduated, I do not feel that I got everything out of it and nearly 2 years of the degree are fuzzy in my memory. I have considered returning to university to study a different undergraduate degree, however, I am scared of "stepping back", getting into financial trouble and the degree ultimately not getting me any further along career wise. I have not once used my current degree. Any advice or direction of someone I could discuss these things with?

Hi Toni. It's great to hear that you're considering applying to study again but completely understandable that you have some concerns. If you contact out Enquiry Centre they'll be able to help give you some helpful advice about this :) www.nottingham.ac.uk/studywithus/enquiry.aspx

Several universities offer course for free to people over 60 years of age. York, Mcmaster and i think even Toronto just took 3 courses, A+, A-, and B.

As a 35 year old who ran a club in college dedicated to all things fandom, I was stoked to know they knew how to find missingno from the pokemon red original gameboy edition I played as a highschool freshman. They had different preferences, but I always appreciated how they shared their interests and even got me purchasing things I normally wouldn't have through their recommendations alone.

Hello, I'm from Jamaica and I've been on and off the University website. I've noticed that the scholarships offered have been updated and that just gave me a spark to go study for my CAPE subjects. I noticed, however, that I was to call an admissions officer in Barbados for further information. I'm really interested in this university for more reasons than one. It was the last university my mom and I spoke about before she passed and even prior to that we were talking about the possibility of studying abroad because it is my dream to travel and meet new people and experience new cultures. Is there a possibility that Jamaica could get an admissions officer or is it that Barbados is where the CXC headquarter is why the admissions officer is there? Also, I am in lower 6 at the moment and I would like to know if Nottingham University could come and make a presentation at my school. I am currently attending the Immaculate Conception High School for girls, and our Dean of Sixth form has had many schools from all over the world come to speak with us and I would really enjoy a presentation from you.

Hi Safin. You can certainly talk this through with our enquiry team, who are happy to answer any questions you might have and talk you through options. Have a look at this page and the courses we offer: www.nottingham.ac.uk/studywithus/study-with-us.aspx If you'd like to contact the enquiry team please use the details here: www.nottingham.ac.uk/studywithus/enquiry.aspx Please note that the University will be closed from the end of today until 2 January for the festive break, but we do have a chat bot called Lucy who can help you with general enquiries.

There’s lots of options. Just give it a quick google! Personally, I’m entering university by doing a foundation year at the university, but you can also do something called an Access Course, as that is something universities value when looking for new students to take on. These are 2 options if you don’t have ‘traditional’ qualifications like GCSEs or A levels. Good luck, you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
