Jacob think your right on point. I retired at age 46. I never was in the union, however I have respect for those guys. The one thing I always remembered was no can take better care of you then you. I took this thought all through my working career and retired early. Through the grace of God my family and I are doing well and I'm spending time with my grandkids. Treat everyone like you want to be treated yourself you will find that the dollar will chase you and you won't have to chase the dollar. Union, non union everyone deserves respect, dignity, fairness to make their own choices for themselves and their families. Happy Easter and God bless!

I did welding school some. was full of druggies and drunks all with huge egos. got into fight when pillhead drunkard came at me for not giving up my seat and fool instructor wanted us to shake and move on. ain't gonna have my head in some work while some scumbag that already jumped me gets to hang around to jump me again. maybe it's just midwest thing, I've stayed many places from Tennessee to California, been south for work some. seems from at least Ohio & Illinois to texas and everywhere in between there's more assholes per capita. was in Colorado for 2 years while back and maybe came across 7 or 8 asswholes total, missouri your doing good if you come across only that many on commute into job cutting you off and tailgating, then ya get to work and only got less than that if not that many employees there and ya don't deal with the public.

I'm a union pipe fitter / welder. Local 211 Houston Tx. It's a 5 year apprenticeship with 8000 on the job training hours to break out as a jorneyman. Due to this I can fabricate, weld carbon,stainless, all the alloys you name it as well as instrumentation, rigging etc. I have no hate for non union, and the pay is close on both sides. I'm not planning to be on my tools for ever either, but a pension is very important to me and my my faimly.

Fellow pipe welder (non-union) here and have worked with UA and non-Union welders/fitters and have learned from both and taught both. We need to work together more and help each other out to better the trade as a whole. 1. The Union is great for young people that need a career direction like the military. Utilize it to your advantage to better yourself for the long term and future goals. 2. Like Jacob said welding is based on the individual. I used my skills as a welder and went from heavy fabrication/structural shop to Oil & Gas pipe fitting/welding on an offshore rig. Now I work for a R&D laboratory designing, machining, and welding parts. 3. Use the trade/skill to advance yourself and never stop learning. Be confident in your abilities and don’t be scared to try something new and adapt.

Hey I'm always behind all the comments cause I'm not too much on social media. I'm an AZ copper mine employee. Unions have always been a hot topic here cause they aren't supported widely or popular with companies (right to work state). I work as a a mechanic/welder. Probably cause I'm a T-Town resident at a Green Valley copper mine. Lemme ask ya this: as a "mechanic" I'm trained to do all kinds of stuff: fan balance, pump rebuild, blah blah. But one of the first things they judged was my welding. Ok...finally: as a union person, is it better to specialize, or is it better to be "Jack-of-all,master-of-none" as I seem to experience more here? Side note: ya"lol make great videos. I am a serious study of testing stuff. Bless you for making this shit public knowledge. This country needs more tradesmen coming up than anything!

Unless you do pipeline with your own rig, I don’t understand why you’d want to be non union. The pay is significantly more, you get full benefits that are free including an actual pension and annuity, don’t have to seek your own work, if your fired without cause you can go to arbitration and have a third party get your job back without having to deal with people inside the company. I honestly don’t understand why people wouldn’t want to be union. Cause of your 60$ a month dues. I don’t hate on anyone that isn’t union but I just don’t understand why this is a debate. I also understand sometimes it’s hard getting into the top unions out there(or apprenticeships) because lots of people apply. But why would you want less money per hour and have to pay for all your benefits out of pocket?
@mikecapone66985 жыл бұрын
We’re I live at it’s never a matter on which side is better , it’s obvious the union side is much better it’s only an issue if you can get into the union or not Bc everyone is trying to get into the union . Non union theirnis no future but it’s hard to get into

Well said my brother. I’m a union guy through and through. I’m a union sprinkler fitter and up here in Pittsburgh where I’m from the non union sucks. They are absolutely horrible. They install it and we fix it. But it all boils down to a pride factor. If you want to be a butcher and don’t take pride in your work that’s what your going to get labeled as. There’s bad union sprinkler fitter and really good ones. I sure there’s good non union sprinkler fitters out there as well. I will say they don’t get no where near the money we get. I will say our retirement is 10 times better than there’s. I don’t know much about the union and union pipeliners so I really don’t have an opinion on that. But I’m sure it’s the same. There’s good and bad union and non union welders.

there is no debate. union is the way to go if you want a career and to help your field move forward and legislate rights for you and protect you from shady contractor business practices. rats ride our coat tails and dont pay dues on any of the legislation we have put into effect for EVERYONE or the high wages rats earn now. so you can choose to eat our crums or you can step up and see the bigger picture.
@JacobSchofield7 жыл бұрын
G Loyd stoked for you man. Sounds like your doing great in the union. Keep up the work mr loyd.
@jrrevolt6887 жыл бұрын
G Loyd , first off I'd like to state I'm a union steam fitter so maybe you'll listen up. When you use the word "rat" it is not referring to an employee, it's referring to a non union contractor. So get it right. Yes the union does set the bar for wages, BUT if your a good non union guy that awesome at his trade, I'm guessing here, but I'm sure you can set your wage. Also we pay dues not only for our unions to help legislator, it also pays for apprentices schooling, represention/protection, and for our union halls to find us work. Yes like these good ole boys said we do have a retirement. I have a pension and a separate 401k. All in all union or non union there is pros and cons. Everyone needs to eat and feed their family's.

As a non union man whose father was, we all have kids to feed. If you find yourself to be better than another man, simply do to Union affiliation, you are jaded. Have bennys,401k , all the above. I don't pay to keep the halls lights on. Talk to the fellas riding the books about how great it is. Oh ya, they just aren't good enough to get kept. Dad said if you are kept with a shop the union don't do much for ya. If you're the type who isn't good enough to be kept by a company, then the union is great.
@aaronanderson76197 жыл бұрын
G Loyd the bigger picture is that prevailing wage ( much respect to those who fight for that money... your reps tho because it isn't you) is paid to non union, but without all the deducts. Although the same comes out of ours as yours for pension. And money's are pulled out for apprenticeship of the others coming up in the trade. . And the Ben package isn't pulled out. So it isn't like we're paid half of what you are. Fucking hardly. Then again I'm an electrician, so chances are I make more anyway. Happy scab signing off

Same thing for refrigerators; washers and dryers; and everything else made in the USA??? You and you union brothers are the reasons manufacturing jobs went to Mexico and China. Everyone wants to blame the "CORPORATIONS". Well, just who ARE the corporations? They are NOT 12 people sitting around a conference table.....they are the WORKERS. Yep, you and your union brothers who repeatedly struck for higher and higher wages and bigger and bigger benefits packages tied to bigger and bigger retirement funds until those people at the conference table decided they weren't going to be blackmailed any longer because they reached the maximum prices they could get the average folks to pay for their products. So;, HELLO China; HELLO Mexico. The bottom line is, this country lost millions of jobs to overseas manufacturers BECAUSE of the ridiculous demands made by you and your union brothers. Thanks for NOTHING Mr. King.

@Shortstack I'd much rather have a skilled American union worker make my GMC then have a 6 year old Chinese/Mexican ect kid building it.. Skilled labor ain't cheap and cheap labor ain't really skilled

N8 Baca..when pickup trucks started costing as much or MORE than a house......all bets were off. I hate that so many jobs went overseas, but DAMN, there is a breaking point.

We all deserve respect both sides are working man just trying to make a living for a family I have respect for both sides but to say that non-union wages are close or compared to union wages is just laughable in New Jersey I work nonunion as an electrician I was making $20 an hour no pension no benefits recently I got into the IBEW union apprenticeship program soon I will be making 47$ Per hour +7 dollars an hour and vacation check seven dollars an hour in my annuity and a pension that is more than double what I was making as a non-union electrician the pay and benefits are night and day from nonunion to eat union in the Northeast if I continue to work nonunion I would be barely surviving living in poverty the union has been A life changer for me it has brought me to the middle class and a homeowner in the union I had guaranteed raises every year in nonunion I had to beg for a raise and was at the bosses mercy now in the union I work under a contract that the boss Hass to pay me certain amount of wages and benefits in the nonunion sector I was at the bosses mercy however he felt that day is how I was treated in the union I have protection I cannot be fired for no reason and I am treated fairly and nonunion I could be fired at any time . Both sides deserve respect like I said we are all working class people but you cannot compare union wages to non-union wages at least in the north east part of the country maybe it is different down south or up north I was making $20 an hour nonunion no to be making $47 an hour plus pension that’s more than double so no you cannot compare the two in regards to piscale and benefits union and nonunion pay rate is knight in day black and white At the end of the day We are just trying to make a living and provid for our family’s . Everyone deserves a good wage and a pension in my experience their is no future in non union

That’s very! It’s all about who takes pride! I was non union up until no one was getting hired in 2010. Now I’ve been in the union for 6 years it’s good on the health care part. But for a fact there is a lot of crappy union welders with no pride in their work in the place I work. Not saying anywhere else but where i work your right on the money about that.
