First, I have to say I watch this video often because my two year old son loves this particular video! He stands in awe of that powerful, loud horn at 8:49. Then, a little after when the train passes, you can hear a bad wheel, and he hears what he believes is a rhythm between the wheel and the railroad crossing signal at 10:07 and he starts dancing to it for the next 10-15 seconds, LOL! I had to record him doing that it was too funny! Thanks for making this awesome video!

You were shooting on S. Vail Avenue in Montebello California. That is the Union Pacific Los Angeles Subdivision that stretches from the Wye on Soto Street southeast of downtown Los Angeles to the west where it connects with both the Alameda Corridor and the River Sub, to the CP SCRRA Junction near Cringe Street in Riverside California where it merges with the San Bernardino Sub. The FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) crossing number for S. Vail Avenue is 811077C. On Soto Street is it 81021H.

I was lucky to grow up about 1 mile from a long straightaway on the New Haven R.R., between New Britain, Newington and Elmwood Connecticut. I remember hot Summer nights when the windows were open and it was really quiet......until one of those wonderful sounding diesel locomotives went by at probably 60-70 mph and hit its air horns. Those sounds are indelibly etched in my brain and are so captivating - nothing else sounds like a diesel air horn. My Dad built a cool Lionel layout in the basement with two lines - a steam line and a diesel line. It was the 1950s and the steam trains were soon to be replaced with diesel power. I've said this before, and some people look at me like I'm not quite all there, but the sounds of the train and its horns is almost romantic to me! I don't know any other way to say it and certainly can't explain it. You either feel that way or you don't. LOVE TRAINS!

is it difficult to become a train driver in the USA?
@therookie92766 жыл бұрын
Amílcar Magnus No, try working for a class one railroad like BNSF, or Norfolk Southern, or Union Pacific, or CSX, or KCS, or Ferromex in Mexico and USA, or a commuter rail like Metra, or Metrolink, or CalTrain, or try working for Amtrak.
@Tegridyvs5 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you go. If you’re talking a class I Railroad like CSX or UP etc. then you become an engineer as your seniority goes up. Depending on the area you’re in it can take up to 10 years before you make engineer. You start as a freight conductor or in some railroads you start as a switchman then become conductor then engineer. But getting into a class I Railroad is still kind of tough. I got on with CSX recently as a freight conductor but I started out on a small short line class III railroad and they put me through a railroad training program that will certify you under the FRA (federal railroad administration) so when I started on that short line and got certified I took that with me when applying for CSX and they hired me because of my experience. Plus I was there for 4 years. Sometimes you can get lucky and they’ll hire you even without experience but it’s very rare. But if you get in the benefits and retirement are phenomenal. Best way to be set for life
