Jeff & Sarah found an unexpected treasure when they spotted and pulled over outside of Nebraska to tour Dobby's Frontier Town, a mock western village.
#dobbysfrontiertown #historyhunters #nebraska
The small roadside attraction has 27 buildings that include a morgue, dentist office, bordello, saloon, print shop, general store, post office, candy store, blacksmith shop and burger counter. Original buildings relocated here include an actual filling station, the 1912 German Evangelical Lutheran Church from Alliance and the cabin built by slave Robert Anderson. In the bank recreation you'll also get to see the teller cage which was breached by the notorious Wild Bunch during the 1897 robbery of the Butte County Bank in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. In the jail you will see the cells used in Cozad, Nebraska from the 1870s. The saloon has the remnants of the longest saloon bar in the state of Nebraska!
Please also check out our other numerous videos under the video tab.
We always are grateful when folks reach out and ask how they can financially support our channel. The best way would be via Venmo @History-Hunters. We also accept PayPal payments at j.benziger@sbcglobal.net which obviously is our email address. Thank you for supporting us with our travel expenses (gas, of course, has gone up quite a bit)!

I had to giggle when Jeff said that he thought that the embalming equipment on the table was adjustable 😀 I think so to Jeff.

My grandfather helped build an old country church here in S. Centeral Mo , its the only church I have ever went to. Every Sunday my cousin and I got to ring the bell, just like this one, Brought back some good memories

Fascinating discovery! I’m amazed they allow you hands on access to all the relics. Oh, the glass top coffin served two purposes. First, to view the deceased. And secondly, to make sure the individual was indeed dead. If they were comatose their breathing would fog up the glass. Very interesting video. Thanks you two!

Wow, I'm so envious! It's not on our path to the Farmstead in North Dakota, & we're always in a hurry to get there & spend as much time as possible before getting back to California, but I would sure love to spend all day at Dobby's. ---The La Purisima Mission here outside of town also holds historical tours with the 5th graders(?) from all the region. I'm impressed that the grade schoolers get a real taste of American history at Dobby's.

This is a fun and interesting place. Stumbling on these little “finds” while road tripping is refreshing. These old gentlemen are a hoot! I can understand why it is taking them years to build a livery stable. since it is free and they operate on donations it seems that someone would organize a group to donate their time.

The Mock Frontier Town reminded me that when I did solo route 66 trip during the pandemic, I stopped in Red Oak II Missouri. It is a replica of 1930 town Red Oak that was built in 1987. This was interesting. Some of the things that you saw and touched were really old. You both were pretty freaked out when you went into the Funeral Home. I laughed! It is great when older people back in the day, would go to all of the trouble of finding and building these types of locations. We are fortunate to be able to still to go see them. If you remember that in the movie, "Silverado" with Kevin Costner, the jail cell that they had him in was also a flat bar type of cell. Remember how Costner's character was hanging and swinging around on the overhead portion. When I saw the jail cell in your video I immediately went and watched some of "Silverado" to confirm the cell in the movie was made from the same type of flat steel. I really enjoyed this show and am glad that you and Sarah had stopped and checked it out. Thanks for doing that and then showing us. Howdy from Texas!!

Grand discovery. Loved that you could enter the buildings. Thanks for sharing. It was a very interesting experience online, it must have been even more so being there. Stay well and God bless you both.

That was a fun video. Sarah ringing the bell reminded me that this summer, my daughter and I went up to Old Town in Santa Fe and did the tourist thing. There is a church called the San Miguel chapel that has the bell inside. The sign out front had on it that it is the oldest Catholic church in the U.S. The docent handed my daughter the hammer and said to ring it. She did it very softly and the docent said to hit it harder. By then a group of people had come in and were snapping pictures of her ringing the bell. She was embarrassed, but was a good sport about it. It was a fun day. My family and I are from NM and have been there several times, but it's still fun.

Love this trip. I used to live in Carlisle Pa back in late 40s and 50s where mailbox was made. Used lots of stuff that was in the store. Liked the enamel pots in the jail cells. Never heard of this town before. Thanks much

Most historic places don't let you actually go inside the buildings and touch things. This was pretty cool. Thanks for sharing this little discovery with us.

@@jbenziggy yes we live about 3 miles away from Dobby. I’m in charge of the quilting. We have two working treadles. The reason it’s always unlocked is because it’s expensive to repair the doors from evils breaking locks. Now we have 24 hour cameras.

Nice visit. A lot of places are like that, they leave the doors open so that you can really see how things were. They wouldn't dare to leave them open in California they would be ripped off. I laughed so hard when you said " look at that nasty carpet there" comical. Thanks for the "trip".
