Thanks mate!. You're probably the only adequate person on KZbin who uses Z zeroing touch sensor properly. The other freaks all over the place are obsessed with use of the silly "touch plate thickness" parameter whereas we only need to know a delta between the tip of the initial either tool or probe (whatever hits the stock Z0 datum first) and all the offsets of every next tool used in the machining sequence.

Good video, but as you pointed out the machine bed and the spindle are earthed, so you don't need to attach the probe earth lead to the machine, just clip the hot wire onto the plate or tool length probe and off you go. And as you have gone to the trouble of isolating the tool length probe, you could leave that permanently wired, which means you only have to connect up the touch plate... this can now have a permanent connection so no messing around with crocodile clips and no possibility of forgetting to connect it. (just cont leave it anywhere that it can trigger the probing input.) :-) I use VB scripts capture x and y per job I take z as being the machine bed in CAM so I don't run into the issue of wanting to use a datum that I just milled away. That said i tend to mill mostly wood - so a piece of stock that 1/2 a mm thicker than it should be does not cause a problem, ali...not so much. this approach helps minimise the chance of the live tool coming into contact with the the bed or fixture.

Interesting video and well detailed. However...Tried that probing wizard and the version might be different from yours, on mine the z height probing returns stupid values (like -8952...) and is overall really crappy buggy shit, which version did you use? Or maybe it has to do with the mach 3 version you're using(using the latest personnally) Same goes for the auto tool zero script you linked, after probing the z axis wants to go down crashing in the probe instead of going to safe z, lol... Other than that, keep up the good work, you craft nice things.

So basically your first tool, the one you found zero with, will be the starting point, and all the other tools are just different Z offsets of the tool 0.
