Commissar's can be independent of units in strategic reserve. Now that Voice of command allows orders once Guard officers pop out of reserve or a transport. You can pop a commisar in from a transport or reserve to do an order and a summary execution where needed.

it is an interesting point but the mental image is even more metal. imagine the battle in full force. somewhere on a flank, a squad of guardsmen get battered and start covering as shellshock kicks in. suddenly a random commissar pops up from a random bush, shoots one of the guardsman and start screaming at the squad to get their s..t together.

The Commissar is an amazing meta unit... Assuming you don't own / can't find / can't afford a Cyclops.

I use them with Death Korps of Krieg. Duty and Honor and an extra plasma pistol for 30 points comes in handy.

Thinking of running one in a 20man krieg blob pushing into the center behind a 20man catachan unit. The catachans are likely gonna get wiped or close to but they bait out a decent amount of stuff because its 20+ wounds. aswell as having scout, so with scout and move move move and advance they can get like 40 oc on the center. Then the death korps move up next and are pretty tanky.

There was a metal Commissar model who had one leg on a rock leaning forward. It looked like he was surveying the battle. I don't remember what weapons he had. I guess this Commissar model is supposed to have the standing straight stern Commissar look. Which is okay, but it wpuld be nice to have a variety of poses like the Commissar above.

Damn shame they lost their bodyguards from 9th. My Mechanized Infantry Division’s commander needs his loyal ogryn chef again! I only keep them in my list to round out some points. I bring 3, with 2 usually sitting near my 4 infantry squads with heavy weapons I leave defending objectives. Tried merging them into 20 man blocks they could lead; hated myself for it. They’d have more value if battleshock actually meant something like they alluded to before 10th released. Executing a guardsmen just isn’t worth it

What about commissar being action monkies like some people use cyclops demolition vehicle? 30 points to drop behind enemy lines and do a secondary?

Eh, at T3, 5++, and 3W, I wouldn't chance it in the majority of my games. One indirect fire weapon and that model is guaranteed dead. Scions are better at 55 points for that.

To me, the new commissar model, doesn't look lik a commissar. Where is his red sash? Who sat on this mans hat? Those are his 2 signs of authority, the red sash and the high peaked hat, and both are missing from this model. He just looks like an officer in a black coat.

Commissar vs Regimental Preacher... My list had both, but now that the Manticore has increased by 30 points I would have to choose. Both give melee buffs. Priest is 35 points and has better inv save. Commissaris 30 points and has summary execution, duty and honor, and better leadership.

I would drop the preacher. Commissar has a lot more utility. Are you also running Catachan Squads?

commissars are really good, tho issue with them I think is usually a unit will be destroyed before a battle shock is forced. I run them in 1k points because I like his aura and orders but i think with the unit competing with psykers and tech priests its sadly a lil too expensive. If he was 20 points or 25 he might see more play but i do encourage him depending on the local meta you are in.

I got some of the Steel Legion Commissars with bolter and power sword. I would have taken them in my lists as Commissars if they could get a Bolter and issue FRFSRF instead of Fix Bajonets (or in addition to that) 😊 which I think would also be in the spirit of a Commissar. "Schoot you dogs, will you?" 😂

Oh yeah! I wish they had access to more orders! Maybe a compromise could be if a bodyguard unit falls back, it suffers d3 mortal wounds 🤣

@@CadianSergeantSteel Or for D3 mortal wounds the unit is able to shoot after falling back within 12" of a Commissar. Which would also make him very interesting imho. Regardless of his utility when it comes to objective control, I think Commissars feel like a missed opportunity. Something is lacking plain speaking.

@@CadianSergeantSteel Thanks 😆 I think Commissars should have more of this meat grinder charakter rules-wise to be able to pull off the impossible in exchange of guardsmen ... OR ... just give him the option of having a bolter and power weapon BACK! This is of course just my opinion 😂
