I’m currently working on a list that’s meant to be the Tanith regiment as Gaunt had originally imagined it before Tanith was lost. Sentinels are the perfect vehicle thematically for this army so I’m glad I can run both armored and scout.

Thank you for this interesting breakdown. I am life-long Ultramarines player and Sentinels drove me to playing Guard this edition. I love how they look so I was hell-bent on running 6 or 9 of them even if it would be the worst idea ever. I am relieved that they are viable ^^ I remember how fast they used to melt when I was playing teams with IG player on my side like 5 editions ago. I also remember how stressful was it to roll your-only-chance hunter killer missiles so I'm glad for the re-rolls. I am assembling my Cadians listening to your videos and you helped me choose weapon (Assault Cannon) for my Armored Sentinels. Cheers and The Emperor Protects !

I think they are great. You don't need a Tank Commander or Leontus to command them (regular Regiment officer will do) and you can bring them back with the Reinforcements stratagem.

Unfortunately you can’t use the armored sentinel’s ability to fish for lethal hits or sustained hits. Both of those abilities trigger on the the To Hit roll. This only lets you reroll To Wound.

Oh true! But you could do it with Daring Recon at least on the rerolling one's. Wonder if I could cut that part of the video out? 🤔😅 I don't want to be giving dubious advise.

Just wanted to follow up. Thanks for pointing out where I mispoke about the unit rules. It probably happened because I was just so excited about how generally awesome they are 😅 but I got the video edit submitted and will hopefully have that section out by morning (KZbin edits take forever 🙄). Autocannon does get arguably more out of armoured sentinel wound rerolls but the big problem is the AP. Armoured sentinels do specialise in getting the wound through with either weapon so the actual decider becomes if your opponent can save it reliably or not. -1 AP on the autocannon just doesn't cut it against most vehicles I find. -3 AP on the lascannon is much more useful for if you want to go pure tank hunter sentinels. With your land raider example, after crunching the average numbers, the lascannon will deal almost double the average damage to a land raider than the autocannon (squad of 3): 1.683 for autocannons 3.375 for lascannons I also ran it on mathhammer and got the same result. Note: if you use CP reroll on low lascannon damage the difference will be even larger.

Great points. What if you added the additional AP -1 from an Autocannon Leman Russ? How much does that swing the math in, say, Terminators or a Land Raider? 🤔

@@CadianSergeantSteel Sure, firing after the -1 AP mark will give a neat little boost in either case! 2.52 average for autocannons (-1AP) 4.22 average for lascannons (-1AP) Also: 3.11 average for 3 hunter killers 3.89 average for 3 hunter killers (-1AP) The hunter killer actually deals >0 damage most reliably of all to a Land Raider (due to its strength) but it does less avarage damage than a lascannon due to its damage profile. So an opening salvo of lascannons and hunter killer sentinels will do an average of roughly 6 damage (8 with -1AP) against a land raider, which is decent. Against terminators the autocannon will be a good option as long as you can get through their save, as the guaranteed 3 damage against their 3 wounds per model is very efficient. If you can stack fields of fire + Exterminator Leman Russ you'll have a good time, but even then you'll only kill 1 on average though (6 shots -> 3 hits -> 2 wounds -> 1 through a -2AP save). Without the AP boost you're actually better off using an overcharged plasma cannon for terminator killing if you can get even a +1 for each sentinel from blast.

Yep, which is WILD and currently 1170 points with 126 total wounds 😶🤯

@@CadianSergeantSteel or just say wheels are boring legs only and run 3 10 mans of the attilan rough riders and fill out rest with infantry

With just leontis and the 18 sentinels and 30 horses you are at 1715 points already so maybe some scions to deep strike and Kriegers to hold points and you get a weird list with a lot of lascanons hunter killers and the rough riders get melta or frag tip spears with the hooves having extra attacks for mob or elite clearing they work well

I don't have any Sentinels yet, (I got the Christmas Box to start my army) but I will be getting one or two in the future thanks to the Combat Patrol Box. Can't wait to put them on the table in the future. I probably will go with Plasma or Autocannons for my weapon options.

You start with 3 tank commanders, probably add 3 royal dorn, that's about 1350 points. Unless you take Lord Solar you aren't able to give more orders but you can justify it as the horse is mechanical right?

I bring 3 of each, not because they’re good, but because my custom regiment is from a Knight World and the sentinels work with the smaller chicken knights to ferret out their enemy Also because armored sentinels can crack armor
