Circa 1967, United came up with an interesting promotion...men traveling on business could bring their wives at a discount rate. It was called "Take Me Along", and was advertised with a lavish song and dance TV commercial directed by future Oscar winner Michael Cimino. The punchline is when United sent thank you notes to those listed as traveling with the men...and in quite a few cases, it was found it wasn't the wives who were taken along.

Makes sense. A hotel near me offered a similar deal on some suites where they basically rented a single king bed in a double sized room for less than 2 queens so alot of people would rent those and share a bed or have 1 sleep on the couch for business trips. My family once rented a honeymoon suite for similar reasons since for the same cost of a standard room with 2 beds we got a fancy suite with a queen bed and a pull out couch.

@@arthas640 I think OP was implying that mistresses often accompanied men on these trips. It makes sense, too. If a married man has a secret mistress, he probably has trouble finding excuses to see her, so it's a lot of short visits during lunch, after work, and maybe an occasional Saturday when the wife thinks he's playing golf. A chance to spend several days together during a business trip where they could be seen in public together would probably seem amazing.

I fly business a lot from domestic and international flights. The free alcohol is nowhere near worth the price. I'm tall so the extra legroom is priceless. I like to drink, but getting drunk in the air isn't as fun as some people make it seem. Having one or two drinks is nice. Any more than that and you're just doing it because it's free.

Back in the mid 80's I was working a flight from LaGuardia to Chicago. I noticed during boarding that all of the passengers who boarded were men. They probably never heard that before. Or ever again!

@Sohan Biswas Men and women are biologically different and as well can be sociologically different. There are men only cafes throughout the world(not enforced, but in a cultural sense), in which middle aged and old men play card games and backgammon and whatever, and a woman's presence in those cafes would be perceived weird. And then there are women only meetings where women cook different food for eachother and talk about things. It's not "wrong" or it's not "right". It's all cultural, and acceptable if means no harm to anyone. A man has the right to wish to be in a place where there are no woman because of millions of possible reasons, and the same applies for women. I can't decide if airports should have x gender only flights or not, though.

Back in the 60s my grandparents and dad landed at some god forsaken dirt strip somewhere between Iraq and India to refuel on a multi-day flight between Scotland and Australia in a Vickers Viscount. The passengers were offered to opportunity to disembark to stretch their legs. Any who did were rushed by dozens of locals trying to sell armfuls of trinkets while armed militia camped around the plane to shoot any bandits wanting to raid it. The grey water tanks were emptied straight onto the ground beneath the plane. Take off was delayed by a local farmer herding his cattle across the runway.

@katanah3195

Almost every job a woman could get back then involved sexual harassment as something you had to just take and if you weren't a "good sport" about it you'd be lucky if all you got was fired for no particular reason, and being a stewardess at least paid better than a lot of other positions, so it was considered a good job by many women. If a job where you're respected simply doesn't exist, then the position that pays the best for the harassment you have to tolerate is what’s considered a good job.

Nebula is pretty lacking in exclusive stuff with only 1 good original series I have seen (money) and the number of youtubers on it is somewhat overhyped. The year I was born was the last time that air service was offered. I feel old and young at the same time. I should add, I have flown on men only flights. In the Middle East. Not sure if it was offered that way (I don't read Arabic), but 2 different times I had no women, attendants included, in my flight. A bit creepy actually. I know you were being sarcastic but, a lot of the guys who flew on those flights were doing so be used their jobs depended on it and they cared deeply about their wives and kids. Most people weren't sexist out of animus, it was just the world they knew and had to survive in. And today, I have gone 25 years without ever out earning my wife and even stayed home with the kids. She hasn't reported flying on any all women's flights though...
