Standby passengers are a part of the flight itinerary. Bc of that most flights are overbooked. I'd bet my left nut that he was standby. Shit like that happens all the time. They board the standbys and then some family of four checks in just before they close the doors. Guess what happens to the standbys? They are asked to leave. I've flown standby my entire life. It's considerably cheaper. It just means you might have to wait a flight or two to get on. I've also been asked to leave. However, in my case, the seat number I was given was the seat of the guy that showed up late. The guy that paid full price. It sucks, but it's part of flying standby. However, this was an "United Express" flight. Those planes don't have assigned seating. So if a family of four checks in late and all the seats are taken, they will go to the standby list and ask for four volunteers from it. It's obvious as hell this is what happened. It amazes me people can't figure that out.

United Airlines used a computer to randomly select the four passengers needed to off board the plane to accommodate flight personnel. Three of the passengers off boarded amicably but the man seen dragged from the plane said that he had urgent business to attend to at his destination. This video clip from ABC News is saying that no laws were broken but it is undue process of law that could have easily found another person willing to accept the $800 incentive to leave the plane. The passengers did not struggle with the handlers who received time off of work and again boarded the plane saying that he had to go home. What would you have done after having paid for the tickets and been assigned a seat on the plane?
@austins10077 жыл бұрын
I've said it on other videos, but I'm sincerely passionate about this. BOYCOTT UNITED, spread the word. Also, we need to make it illegal for airlines in the United States to overbook at all, let alone kick passengers off a a full flight for crew transport. People are not statistics!

America has FREE SPEECH, you know. I have NEVER FLOWN ON UNITED FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. Obviously the same is true for you due to the fact that you watched this video. Yes, you are right that businesses need to use statistics to project sales. They DO NOT need to kick PAID SEATED passengers off of a plane, to shuttle their crew to save money by making sure that a scheduled flight takes off on time. Now, this will end up costing United FAR more money than just having a delayed or cancelled flight. I did care about this before, and I'm not a mother fucker. Common sense, not justice warrior. You are aware the United Airlines employs people called Attorneys who instruct the airline as to what they can and cannot do. You have no "right" to be on their flight.
@CenturianCornelious7 жыл бұрын
Eric B That is debatable. If you pay for something, you do have a right to it. Now, there may be fine print that acts as an agreement to give up a seat. I don't know. What I do know is that the law is nowhere near as well clear-cut as one might think. If it were there would be no employment for lawyers. Then, if a jury gets involved, all bets are off. They are king. I am not aware whether attorneys were called in this particular case. If they were, they did not have eyes on the scene and therefor could not have made an unimpeachable assessment. The guy definitely has a case. Did you see the reactions of the other passengers? Have you seen the social media reaction? The airline cannot afford to put this in front of a jury. Look for an out-of-court.
@frenchfan33687 жыл бұрын

for those who say he should have complied to law enforcement, cut your craps and come to your sense 1. This is not a criminal case. It's not like you are removing a thug or catching a drunk driver. Here united was asking the man to do them a favor to give up his seat. Law enforcement should have never involved here. It's the fucked up regulations that allow airlines to involve law enforcement in these situations and that should be changed. And it's the fucking airline that thinks it can do whatever it wants even if it means to hurt its customers. 2. Do everyone else a favor and educate yourself with the fine print before backing the fucking airline. United's rule 25A starting with "Denied Boarding (U.S.A./Canadian Flight Origin) - When there is an Oversold UA flight that originates in the U.S.A. or Canada, the following provisions apply..." It clearly says "when there is an Oversold" but the flight was not fucking oversold. They needed those seats for their own employees. So regardless wtf the fine print says about overbooking, they could not force the man to give up his seat if he didn't want to. It's united's fucking problem. 3. Again, educate yourself and read the fucking fine print in rule 25 further. The phrase "denied boarding" is used over and over. This situation is not about denied boarding. The guy had already been boarded and that's why he was already in his seat. What should have been called in this situation is "revoking boarding" but that's not anywhere in the fucking fine print. Even if it was there, it should be removed because it's unfair and unjust. 4. Given that it was united's fucking problem, they should not have been too cheap to stop the offer at $800. Why not keep increasing the offer until it's maxed out at $1350 and see if anyone took it? It's their fucking own problem for not having transportation for their employees and they tried to be so cheap and then used force on their customers when it didn't go the way they want? Anyone think that was right, your reasoning has a fucking problem!

I don't believe it would have been an issue this way. They should have asked a second group of four...because they dont know the circumstance. I guess the on time record came into play...Its nuts. So sad to see this happen. They were pretty harsh and he was really trying to stand his ground.
@GS-cg3yn7 жыл бұрын
Sharon Lincoln The airline DID ask for volunteers offering an $800 voucher but no one volunteered so their computer chose 4 people who were required to depart. Of the four, only this man threw a temper tantrum over it instead of departing the plane with maturity and dignity.

He looks younger than he is, if that means anything to you. In hindsight he's a senior citizen, but I'm not sure that was known at the time... or if that means you can do whatever you want even if they did know. Deciding to pick someone "more compliant and wiling" would cause another moral problem. They had already asked people to take re-accommodations for another flight and nobody wanted to, then 4 were picked for involuntary exit, he was one of the 4. Picking someone else on a flight where people already didn't want to get off because "he's not compliant and willing" or because "he's a doctor" just doesn't seem right either. "Hey, you... what's your occupation? oh you're unemployed???? get of, the doctor will stay on instead" ...or "hey you, how old are you? 21!??? get off, the older gentlemen will stay" Maybe they should have picked the youngest least successful person to get off, but checking their history and such. I don't know.

Beating up a 69-year-old man. Nice work, United.
@normaschutt91297 жыл бұрын
When a person is 69 years old, they are often not as flexible and "sturdy" as younger people. Literally dragging an individual, who has done nothing wrong but refused to go voluntarily, out of those narrow seats, over the armrests and down the aisle was a risky move. He could easily have suffered worse the a bloody mouth. Imagine if that had been a 69 year old woman with osteoporosis that refused to give up her seat and the potential for injuries the airline would be subjecting her to. United should make it policy to sweeten the deal with more vouchers or preferably just offer cash. Clearly nobody thought $800 in vouchers was enough. For $800 in cash there would likely have been takers. That's far cheaper than settling an injury lawsuit because the airline goons used excessive force on the wrong person.

You should also look into how these 4 passengers were "randomly" selected. Show me the computer that randomly selected these passengers. Were first and business class passengers also included? There is no such function! I'll bet they were chosen simply because they paid the lowest fares! Also he wasn't asked to give up his seat because it was overbooked. It was because 4 UA employees also wanted to go to Louisville.

So al of this was happening, everyone else was freaking out and saying they felt bad for the man yet they still could've offered their seat to let the man stay on the plane.

They can make you get off of a flight. They cannot make you purchase a ticket ever again to united airlines.

Myself and my family fly all the time, to see family out of state during vacations, and I know for in the future that I am never going to book United.

Overbooking! If the airline had to pay 10000 or 20000 dollars for compensation when one is denied the flight, they would think about twice. Shameful abuse that needs to be stopped.

I've lost respect for United. If the passengers paid for their seats, they have the right to choose to stay or give it up. If their is overbooking, it's the airlines problem, not the passengers.
