Shortly after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Mayor of Boston wants to cancel James Brown's (Chadwick Boseman) performance at the Boston Garden, in fear of what may occur. However, James convinces the Mayor to let him perform and during his performance, many audience members rush the stage out of excitement causing James to briefly stop the show.
