A thespian should know the past of "stive" is "strove" and the part participle is "striven". Referring to people as non-achievers and losers, one must maintain a high standard.

Universities also change the nature of the cities they reside in. Planning is pushed through to build huge blocks of accommodation for students, to the detriment of local residents, who have no say. The councils like students for money etc. The universities are out of control.

You are simply repeating the debates dating back to Medieval period, of the Town and Gown conflict. The 1355 riot by townsfolk against the scholars of Oxford, ended with 30 townsfolk and 63 university members dead. The townsfolk took to the street: *Havoc! Havoc! Smyt fast, give gode knocks* ! much like the the EDL of today!

The reason why foreign students come to be educated in the UK in the first place was because of perceived high standards of education and also of a refined society at large. Britain by lowering standards both in education and becoming more chavy and common in behaviour generally means we will eventually lose this valuable money but more important lose our soul

Thank you for speaking up Matt, you surely take a lot of flak from your colleagues in academia for shedding light on the symbiotic relationship between the universities and legal immigration. International student fees are much higher than those for domestic students, creating a huge financial incentive for the universities to take on international students and to expand. The lowering of entry standards leads to higher profits and salaries for vice chancellors. From the international student's perspective, the overall package is attractive because it includes long-stay visas for the student and and their dependents, the right to work in the UK, healthcare and school places paid for by British taxpayers.

Gotta love Matt. But I’ve been saying this for years as uni has become a business and actual education doesn’t take priority. The entry requirements are actually lower for some of the courses /vocational that were taken over uni. Also, for example I recently heard that when applying for a work visa to work in countries such as the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, uk qualified health care staff are now required to undertake a bridging course to upskill their competence. Even scarier is that in order to get more staff out there , they are being pushed too early when they are not yet competent and that’s an accident waiting to happen ! No wonder so many are dropping out. I agree with everything Matt says in this video.

This has been going on for years. When my son granulated from Birmingham Uni three were whole courses, separate from the mainstream, just filled with foreigners who were all “graduating”. Not sure the academic rigour was there. Same when my other son graduated from Liverpool Uni. Although in the latter case the engineering courses were filled with hard working Chinese who went straight back home.

I think the rot set in when the polytechnical colleges were allowed to convert to universities with loads of weak degree offerings. I deal with students in a Further Education college and the standard of student we are getting is through the floor. This is possibly due to the pressures on schools to get results and leaving a lot of students falling behind. We need a complete overhaul in education. Thanks Matt Goodwin for speaking out.

A typical example of “money talks” they saw that a huge chunk of their income comes from internationals. It also goes to ask why do the natives ignore higher education. I went around some universities and I was surprised to notice very fewer Brit’s in higher education. Why? When it’s even cheaper for them as citizens. Internationals pay more than twice the amount.

One way of offsetting the cost of education is to charge full school fees for the dependents of overseas uni. students. IIRC Singapore charges different fees for Primary/Secondary school fees for PR compared to almost free education for citizens. Primary school fees for citizens are ZERO, for PR S$280/month, for non-ASEAN citizens S$935. Secondary school fees for citizens are S$5/month, for PR S$560/month, for non-ASEAN citizens S$1910. (from the MoE, Singapore)

The thing is that A students in UK are at the same academic standard as B (or even C) students from overseas, especially Asian countries like China, Singapore, Korea, Japan, etc. I am teaching at a UK university but originally came from Asian. In Asia, only top 5% (or even less) would get a grade A!!! Getting C does not mean these students are not capable of doing that subjects. It just means that they are below top 20%. When I taught the first-year math in the University, the "average" Chinese students are at least on par with the UK A or A* level students. So, before trying to generalize the grade "standard", show me evidence that the "low-level" oversea students would academically achieve much less than the required grade or level for UK students? Wake up UK, the problem is that your A-level is too mundane (compared to some other countries)!

Can I just say the only reason standards have been lowered for international students is because they pay more in fees than British students (about double). A huge reason for the lowering of grades for international students is because they don’t want to come here anymore mostly due to brexit and the policies you gammons love to bang on about. Uk universities operate at a loss for British students and the international students are needed to help plug the £800 million lost in funding/grants we used to get from the EU (for free btw). Im so sick of channels like this spreading misinformation. Universities are some of the only things we still do well (over 20 of our universities are in the top 100 globally). They give us a lot of soft power internationally, teach people to think for themselves and get this - a better educated workforce is a better workforce.
@Truthseeker1515

Matt is 100% right and I do not even vote tory lol. Majority of institutions in financial woes are not fit to be universities, merely former further education colleges or ex-polytechnics that were never research institutions in the first place. Some have gone on a spending spree and are paying the price. Why should the taxpayer bail them out? The choice should be a simple one. Merge locally (if you can) or close. It is unlikely there would be any objections to merge institutions from the public which is a common practice across other sectors of the economy. Maybe some local outrage but that will end there. Students affected would also benefit from the transfer to stronger academic and financially secure institutions, that will more than compensate for the situation faced. Universities remaining would achieve economies of scale, become leaner and more efficient enterprises. Sadly and realistically, however, I do not expect the funding model to change for home/EU students, too politically sensitive, and a labour government, more favourable to international students, is likely to maintain the status quo. Nevertheless, the UK should not have 160 universities. In France and Germany, there are approximately 70 in total and quality of research is high. The current situation here is insane....

You think Brexit made universities lower entry standards for foreign students? - really? University student entry numbers are at THE HIGHEST LEVELS IT HAS EVER EVER EVER EVER BEEN, EVER. Explain how brexit is a NEGATIVE root cause of that? Going to university is about PROFIT ever since they were allowed to charge £50,000 and more for a 3/4 year mostly online course. How do you make more profit? LOWER THE ENTRY LEVEL = MORE STUDENTS, 80% of which are now ONLINE ONLY so they don't even need to hire more staff. More students = more fees, more fees =..... guess what? MORE PROFITS.

The decline in University standards started with Blair's ambition that 50% of young people should go to university. There were many changes to student financing, the status of polytechnics etc. All of this lead to trying to attract foreign students. This all happened when Blair was PM - a long time before Brexit and nothing to do with Farage or Johnson!
