In this video, I take you through the principle of being effective in stretching, the key is engaging and strengthening the opposing muscles. I learned this CRACR technique recently and it's been highly effective.

Good excercise, thanks! Just did 3 sets of 4 reps each leg as advised and feel immediate effects (and a really mean contraction in my quads!). Before the excercise I had about 3cm of air between the floor and my flat palm (could touch fingertips to the floor easily). After doing it, I could reach 7cm further down with my flat palms, basically reaching 4cm into the ground (i stood on a thick book for this). I will incorporate this excercise into my leg days, thanks Chase!

Dude I can't thank you enough. my podiatrist gave me a similar stretch but this specific height related technique really helped me finally gain freedom in my hamstrings. I could never touch my toes and now i finally can after a few months of this. I also don't even hike!

Thanks for another great vid. So helpful that you explain how the exercises relate to hiking, in this case single leg balances.

Excellent exercises! While I don't do them as much as I *should* working on the psoas muscles is very important. Stretching and strengthening your core will make a big difference, especially coupled with this.

This is great, I love this. I hike and also run and I'm constantly working on my flexibility. Do you have a recommendation on about how many sets I could work up to or each time I do this? I don't want to over do it. Thank you again!

3 sets of 4 reps each side should do it. Maybe twice a week max. It’s pretty intense

That was awesome thank you. I stretch my hamstrings on the bathroom cabinet while brushing my teeth but aren’t really getting any results, this fingers crossed will do the trick.

Analyzing outside the box provides deeper understanding. I use a watch to measure higher foot impact while hiking. The walk stride is set to 2 feet 0 inch and run stride set to 3 feet 0 inch. After 10 miles walking my hamstrings get tight increasing average speed displayed from minimum 2.5 mph (full walk stride) to max 3.7 mph (full run stride). The harder my foot hits ground the more run stride in calculation increasing average speed displayed. Average speed above 3.0 indicates time to stretch tight hamstrings which can reduce average speed back to 2.5 mph. This is a $20. watch made by Krippl Watches placed in my back pocket with wristband removed.

Hey, I posted this on another video but I'll do it here too, I'd love a video (or series) on starting as someone who is out of shape. I've had a year of being sedentary and it's not good! But when I start I inevitably go too hard and end up not being able to continue. It's easy to get stuck on the sofa. How to train from relative lack of fitness?

can this be done with the hip flexors as well? I have a lot of hip flexor tightness from cycling, which effects my walking/hiking gait.
