As someone with experience with animation, this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. A lot of professional animation software is very overbuilt and intimidating with so many minor intricacies that can make them feel needlessly complicated and clunky. Having all these tools in the convenience of Procreate’s engine(?) and the comfort of an iPad AS WELL as not being stuck to a subscription model is a massive win.

This makes things like like keyframing in after effects which is normally a huge pain, super intuitive! No needing to position your image perfectly and set the scale and then add a frame then ease it in and out and then hope it looks good. I’m so excited!

As an animator, i remember working on iPad with the difficult frame-by-frame type with the hard shading and lights. You had to create a plenty of layers for having the exact layering as for example you might make much easier in Krita or TVPaint. But now it’s going to be truly game-changing, and actually the closest app Procreate is going to stick too is Krita. I guess if you’ve done cartoons there, learning procreate won’t be that hard

This is an incredible explanation of the new app. I would be interested in how to best setup existing procreate drawings to prepare for import to dreams. I’m thinking it would be nice to have some drawings and such ready for when it comes out I can quickly import and start using Dreams. I think this app is going to be an incredible stepping stone for younger artists that have an interest in animation but can’t afford or don’t have time to learn other animation software that is traditional to a full blown workstation. I can’t wait to see what the artists I currently follow start creating with it. It is an excellent price point as well from what I read.

This looks really interesting, but I think I'd have a couple of questions before deciding whether to get it or not. 1) Will this be replacing Procreate or will both apps coexist and continue to be updated? 2) Will the animate features in Procreate still exist after Dreams is released? 3) Will older iPads run Dreams? I have a 2019 model and no budget to upgrade it. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this. 4) How much space will it take? So yeah, I'll have to wait and see what happens before I commit to clearing space on my iPad for a new app. Also, I'm really excited that the book is coming out soon!

for one and two, they said both apps will coexist and procreate is actually receiving some features from dreams like icloud sharing and such. as for the animation tools already in procreate, I’m thinking they’re staying since they work slightly differently, but there’s no hard confirmation for that yet.

Lisa, does Dreams have ease-in/ease out control as part of it’s Perform feature?...or does changing speed as you move elements create ease in/ease out motion change? Really liked this early overview. I think you are going to become a star teacher for Dreams!

Perform records your movements as they happen, applying keyframes automatically, and I believe all easing is linear at that time. But your can go into the keyframes and adjust the easing after.

Congratulations everyone! I am so so happy and excited. Recently I also found out that Procreate has included Assamese language in text. I create comic books. It has made a lot of difference to me. I have been trying animation with a little success. But this is should be very helpful. I hope it allows me to use my own characters. Do not like using same character again and again. Awesome video as always Lisa! Currently in Procreate I find there is loss of image sharpness/quality when i copy, resize or move layers. Wondering if Procreate Dreams will resolve this issue. Also how can I easily vectorize a Procreate image? That would really help with the loss of quality when an image is resized.

Looks cool, on the site it says the price is one time payment 20$ only and I'm curious about the format (mp4, gif with transparent alpha background, HD264 etc.. ? ) *Bardot can you give feedback to Procreate tell them to add the option "painting on a 3D model and be able to animate it with animate shaders (like in Blender)" and create animation using real person movment like iphone animate emoji " Animoji" ? This shouldn't be hard to program since it already exist, I'm surprise their is no application that made it already.

I’m so excited, I’ve been wanting to delve into animation for a while but haven’t been sure where to start. Im writing a comic series at the moment and would love to see it animated! The main two things I want to know: 1) what is the limit? It seems like when you go into flipbook mode, only the layer you’ve selected is affected. So if you return to the layers, select a new one, and return to flipbook, you’d have a new animation layer

I used to work in animation. I was doing it all the way back from the Adobe Fireworks and Macromedia Flash days. And I hated it. Lol! In general, I love watching animation, but I hate doing animation. And it’s not so much an issue about the complexity of the software, it’s just that animation all by itself is inherently complex no matter how the software tries its best to simplify it. Motion by nature is complex. The way you move your legs as you walk. The way fire laps and flickers…you can’t simplify that. It takes time and time is what I don’t have. Great news for those that love animation and are awesome at doing it, but bad news if this was the only thing the Procreate team has been focusing on the entire time. The Procreate team has been lagging on improvements and features Procreate desperately needs, especially for typography and print output. I understand why they did it however. They’re paying attention to the trends and artists are demanding more control over their content. The landscape is shifting from static images to motion and video. It’s a must have for artists looking to up their image and promotional game.

This was a great video. I was so disappointed when I saw the live. There are so many things I think need to be added to procreate to help us, such as a way to group or search for brushes. I turned it off in just a few minutes. Glad I saw this. I thought this wasn't for me. It won't help me in my commerical art but will be fun to play with.

Hi Lisa I’ve been in the professional animation world for decades. Dreams is impressive! Can Dreams use internal SSD drives like the video editing iPad app LumaFusion does? LumaFusion is not an animation app of course - however its seamless SSD compatibility is excellent. Both your files and thin project itself can live in the external drive. So nothing touches your iPad storage limits. This goes beyond iCloud, which only stores files. In my case I have a 2TB SSD plugged into my iPad power port, with all my video clips and projects on the SSD and LumaFusion treats those medias as if they were on the IPad. Thanks!

Nerd question: Can you actively define (and change?) the registration point for a nested(grouped) piece of art? Being in command of the registration is a big part of getting a proper deformation of a particular piece of art. Thanks!
