Unpacking & Organising Our New Home in the Chaos
We’re officially moved in! 🥳 Now that the kids are settling into their new school routines and Ryan’s back to work full time, I’ve been left to tackle the chaos at home. The place is still part building site, and there are boxes and random piles everywhere! It’s time to bring some organisation to the madness and start turning this house into a home.
In this week’s vlog, I’m focusing on unpacking and organising our bedroom, trying to get some clothes in the wardrobe and setting up an autumnal clothing rail. I’ve also got to face the mountain of laundry, so I’m off to the local laundromat to get it all sorted while we wait for a washing machine. It’s a hectic week, but it’ll be so nice to wake up and feel like we’re finally getting settled!

Fern you are amazing you are mature and you are wise. You realize that you must live your life doing what is best for you and your family. You enjoyed your stay in the rental took your time to find a place and you did, so that is major. You had to honor the terms of your lease and got out in time, so mission accomplished. Now you’re in your new home and that is phenomenal. And moving is a beast so no shame in getting your things organized. That is the name of the game when you move a family of four into a new home so we fully understand. Also, you are blessed to have a hubby that is a Contractor so you know his schedule and know that construction will begin as swiftly as possible. So proud of you… you get it. Boy, girlfriend do I relate, we lived in a work site for one year, so much so my schnauzer now thinks workman show up JUST to play with her. My small pice of advice is have one room that is totally organized and comfortable. You can go there when you feel overwhelmed. The rest will get organized with time. Have fun decorating, I look forward to watching your journey

The great thing about being ruthless with what you get rid of is if you get rid of enough of the nice but lukewarm things we settle with, it makes room if you find something you are in love with. I think we settle and there is more freedom with less. I think there is more safety in having less things too. I love seeing your process. It’s helpful to me since I am going through my things. I was in New York 8 months out of a suitcase. When I came back… I could see. A lot needed to go. And I am happier and happier each bag that goes out of this house…

My questions for your next Q&A are, did you guys knew someone was living there who wasn’t moving out already or they hid that from you? What sites did you use for finding auction as I’m currently looking in the south of France too for our home. Thats the way to go Fern, OMG hun with everthing you have going on you have been amazing and stiil look gorgeous. When we took the whole back of the house dismantle for your new kitchen. Alan was putting all the steels for the 7 bifolds in for the builders, this was in the July the week before the builders were to start. But the builders kept putting the build back and started the first week in December, all finish in two weeks. But we had spent months in total a disaster. Wont be doing it again and I looked like worzzle gumage most of the time. Lol😅

Hi Fern, Did you see the comment I left last week about the winter truce in France, (la trêve hivernale). You need to take some legal advice about the man still living in your basement, or you might end up not being able to evict him until after 31st March. The truce starts on 1st November, even if he doesn't pay bills for the water and electricity you might not be able to evict him once that date passes. I am sure he will know about that rule, so get some good legal advice as soon as you can. I love seeing the transformation of the apartment taking place.

So take it slowly and one day you’ll look back at this time and laugh as your home will be functioning 💯 %. Question: do you have a clean and empty garage yet? So that you can bring storage goods closer to home for when you’re looking for something. Also the number one question on everyone’s lips is can you start renovating the downstairs store room. I gather that’s going to be the laundry/mud room or such?
