"Unpopular" BTS Opinions

I am back with another common "unpopular" opinions video.
This time I will be discussing not so unpopular opinions on BTS.
Even though I am not an army I find these opinions about BTS fascinating and I thought it would be interesting to share my opinions on them as a non army.
Feel free to share your own thoughts on these "unpopular" opinions.

I hate whenever my friends say they love K-pop and I'm like oh did you hear blackpinks new song or girls generation or seventeen or got7 or beast or a pink and they are all like who are they and I'm like you don't like K-pop you only like bts and even then they don't really know alot about them they just say they do for the fact that bts is popular

I cant believe anyone had the audacity to call Tear weakest. It's critically acclaimed by pitchfork and it made me forget HYYH when I first listened to it. It's ok to have preferences..It's NOT ok to label or judge music based on your personal opinion.

I literally can't take anyone seriously after they say "BTS is overrated". A group is overrated when their achievements outweigh their efforts. Which clearly isn't true with BTS given their struggle so anyone who believes that automatically becomes dumb to me

Evem besides the effort they are genuinely all extremely talented in their own right. Jimin and J hope being AMAZING dancers. JK and V and jin with their vocals and of course Suga and RM with their rapping and song production skills. And this is me talking about their main strengths when they all cross skills very well into a lot of the other catagories (V and JK are also great dancers for example). Seriously they try to do something different with every song and something about every song is different and expirimental in some way. And then they still put in so much effort to match each other in the other talents (like watching the Dance rehearsal for Idol you can barely tell that some of them aren't really dancers because of how hard they work. RM especially blows me away in that one with how much he's improved) I honestly amazes me and maybe I am overhyping them cause I'm fairly easily impressed but I dont think that's the case here. I agree with you that if people say they're overrated I can't take them seriously but it's mainly because if they say they're overrated they don't know enough or understand enough about BTS. I appreciate the person who posted this video because she went out of her way to get her facts straight and actually form her own opinio not just watch one video and male up her mind based on what others say.

In my opinion when ppl say bts is overrated I think of some ARMY that are so quick to say “ bts are perfect “ “ they are better than your group “ ik it’s basically ig toxic fans but some ARMY do make it seem like they never make mistakes. I’m not throwing any hate cause I love them dearly. Just some ARMY needs to stay in their lane and grow up when it comes to supporting . Just because their songs don't match your taste it dosen't mean they're overrated. It's funny how a lot of people openly admitted that they used to think BTS were overrated but after seeing them perform 'I'm fine' on Jimmy fallon that changed their opinion. People automatically assume that a popular group is overrated without even giving them a chance. TBH that's what I did with Red velvet. I thought they were overrated at first. I was so wrong to think that. I literally became a fan after hearing Wendy cover 'who are you' by Jessie. Seulgi impressed when she sang 'I have nothing' by Whitney Houston. My point is that a lot of people don't give BTS a chance. BTS has better lyrics than 80% of western/korean artists but the world might never know because they choose to believe that they're a love sick manufactured boyband supported by 12 year old girls 🙄They let stereotypes and language barriers get the best of them, man that's just sad. I had a lot to get off my chest. Sorry for the long rant. I'm not the kind off person to get impressed easily. Lol I hated celebrities and I thought kpop was weird back then (I'm an idiot I know but Psy's gangnam style left me hella confused even tho I thought the song was catchy) but BTS changed that. And I'm not afraid to criticise BTS or any of the other kpop groups I stan. The 'criticism' they face is actually hate.

I do listen to some other groups, but BTS just appeals to me more, as a whole. I will continue to support them. I would never consider abandoning them just because some Armies are annoying. That would be like giving up on life period, because there are annoying people everywhere. Just love what you love and don't pay attention to what someone else has to say. Stay true to yourself😊

tbh i dont think any group is “overrated” because i personally think all groups deserve the hype theyre getting because they all work so hard. but apart from that, this video was so refreshing compared to other videos that just bash on groups and cover it up as ‘unpopolar opinions’ you an intellectual honey

I totally agree with that statement, but there are some groups who are overhyped. They do work hard, there’s no disputing that, but that should not be a reason to why they are given credit where it is not due. So, if a kpop group works hard, just as much as every other group, isn’t doing anything different, isn’t setting a new standard worthy of being hyped to a point of no return, then they are most definitely being overhyped.

I love every single era that BTS has had so far. Each was unique and special in its own way. The fact that they keep changing their sound and experimenting is what keeps me interested and loving everything they put out. And I will say I prefer IDOL over Run. Run is amazing and an absolute bop. But it's all a matter of preference. The sound and beat of IDOL appeals more whereas Run is more a care-free not so hard song. I love both songs but when it comes to playing which song in the car, it's gonna be IDOL.

Tear is not the weakest album geez ! All the songs there were of different genres .. paradise , Pluto , anpanman , airplane 2 , magic shop , love maze , fake love , tear ,so what , the truth untold were all great songs with amazing meanings ... it was one of the most relatable and meaningful albums and it was the first album i loved each an every song . Honestly, I'm really annoyed, like their music does have some western elements however, their new song idol includes, Hanboks, traditional Korean music etc. It's like watch them completely change their style and still come out on top. There are so many Kpop artists who do sound westernized now as well, for example Koko Bop in particular, Winners songs, Blackpinks Ddu du ddu du, Kards music etc. Something else, people saying "Bts are overrated", "Bts are overhyped" like do your research. They came from a poor company, struggled for many years living in one room together, being told they were never gonna make it, getting cut out of variety shows and broadcasts, they deserve everything they have. On the other hand, I do agree with the opinion that people who stan bts aren't Kpop stans, people need to widen their perspective and realize there are SO many amazing idol groups in the industry, as well as solo artists. I also do agree bts weren't the first Kpop artists to go to America, however they did really make Kpop well known all over the world, by going to the amas, the bbmas being on variety shows like Ellen or James Corden. Now they're even scheduled for AGT (americas got talent). There are groups who've gone the the u.s. as well recently, for example, NCT 127, got7. Theres also kcon where idol groups gain more recognition in the u.s. Also, this relates to "Army being a toxic fandom" there are a lot of fanwars, but I think they need to end cuz the groups are all friends and its just sad that fans cant be as well. I think the reason why people see Army as a toxic fandom is because the fanbase is SO huge the majority of what you see are the toxic fans, trust me as an army I know so many amazing people in the fandom. Anyway, I dont really have anything else talk abt ah. I'm sorry if any of that sounded rude, but its just my opinion.

I agree tho a bit. Tear was weak. When I first listened to it at first, all the songs sounded the same to me. Now I look back and think “Was I high”, but still, could’ve been worse, like LY her was horrible (There is a couple good songs though, but other than that). Like I definitely agree that I hate DNA.

bts’ music doesn’t sound western, as many people like to put it. It sounds like bts’ own style of music, it is unique. You pull up a playlist with the top 50 most listened songs on the US and I doubt you’ll find something like what bts does. And i know this because i listen to almost every genre of music. I wish people would stop labeling bts’ music as western and using it as an excuse to say that the more recent albums are bad. It’s obvious that kpop fans who don’t listen to bts will be more drawn to their older stuff because it is what generic kpop sounds like and maybe it’s what they’re used to. In my opinion the LY series was great and Tear might be their best album yet, from the meaning of the songs to the unique flow and sound they have.

I agree on everything away from the ‘they didn’t pave the way’ part. A lot of other kpop groups have, as you said, performed before them and such. And we should all thank them for starting the basis of spreading kpop to the west. But BTS definitely helped completely that, because of them so many more people know about kpop. Even other kpop groups have thanked BTS for giving them an easier way to the west. I don’t think they paved the whole way, but they did help *a lot.* Anyway, I enjoyed your video ^^

I don’t get when people say “___ is westernized now” like?? KPOP was literal influenced by American pop, so anything that comes out of the KPOP industry HAS been influenced. Obviously there are unique beats and such, but overall the KPOP genre is just pop. No group is “westernized”, they all have been influenced, that’s it. Edit: I also don’t agree with the term “overrated” being used towards other groups. All groups went through hell to reach their fame. If you understand how the industry works, then you will see why those groups don’t deserve that title. For BTS, it annoys me how people can’t just understand how badly their career began. They deserve their recognition, and so does other groups.

imma share some positive opinions for once ♡: - LY:Tear is one of my fav BTS albums - DNA is a bop that grew on me with time and ages well - LY: Her and LY: Tear are great for different reasons. The overall feel of the albums is supposed to be different, which is why it's understandable that some people vastly prefer the one over the other. I listen to more songs from Tear regularly, but I enjoy Her a lot as well. (Her had so many gems: Mic Drop, Sea, Serendipity, Her and lets not forget the social commentary on GoGo) - I'm an ARMY that listens to other k-artists despite the fact that i only stan BTS (only stanning BTS doesnt mean youre not a kpop fan; I've known about and been listening to kpop since before I knew about BTS, but theyre the only group i stan as of now) - Fake Love is my favourite title track next to Blood Sweat and Tears - BTS has good older and good newer songs - BTS's EDM songs may not appeal to everyone, but that doesnt make them bad. In concert EDM songs are some of the best ones (DNA, Best of Me, So What...) I enjoy listening to them when I'm doing chores or cleaning my room lol it gets me all motivated to be productive - I like it when BTS collabs with other artists, it lets fandoms mingle and grow - solo stans arent all bad (there are some that just mind their own business and i dont mind them) -

#1 armys are the most toxic fandom we are not the most toxic fandom we are just the biggest. we get attacked by other fandoms on a daily basis and we just fire back and everyone calls us toxic without knowing what goes on in our fandom so yeah this goes for anyone calling us the most toxic. We get constantly threatened and shit on and i wishmore people would see we most of the times dont start arguments with other fandoms. Also the funny thing is that we get called toxic by the whole kpop fanbase because they are either jealous either simply want to take us down. If you ask anyone that didn't treat us or the boys bad they will have only nice words to say and that's because we are nice to the people that deserve it. Kpop fans are in a constant fight with us because bts made it big without privilage and if you ask fandoms that were nice to us you will again hear good things

We are the biggest Kpop band right now, western fans and recognition is more than any other group. BTS gains too many fans daily and they ruin the impression. When I got into Kpop, I bashed and hated on Twice and other groups. And everybody does this. Now, I respect every group and like them equally. Only if our fanbase doesn't grow as much every day with uneducated brats so we can be more "mature" As a fanbase.

It makes me really sad to hear people calling the army toxic because I've never had contact with a rude army before. That doesn't mean to say that they don't exist but I hate that the whole fandom is judged by the minority, and that I might be judged for being an army. OK, I wanted to say this so long ago... here it is: in my opinion, Bigbang opened the way, but BTS were the ones to pave it. It is a huge difference. Bigbang was like a teaser of kpop for international people, but it was BTS that delivered the package. I say this, because I myself got interested in kpop because of Bigbang, but because of BTS more and more people are aware that kpop exists. I only like and listen to BTS and don't consider myself a kpop fan. I just consider myself as ARMY. I have listened to the other kpop groups but I felt like bts was very different. i personally think bts’ best music era was 2015-2016, the music they released then was exactly my music taste and i love every single song in those eras. (basically their albums forever young and you never walk alone) i mean i like the love yourself era i guess but when i compare the two you can obviously see which one i prefer. for me, love yourself: her was a pretty good album, love yourself: tear was a complete miss for me, and i liked love yourself: answer the most out of all of them. i really got into idol and all the other new songs on that album. i just really really prefer the music and aesthetics in 2015-2016. honestly if they released ‘I Need U’ right now i honestly think it would be a hit in the US because of the “i need you girl”. i even played ‘I Need U’ and ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears’ for my step brother (and he’s like really picky about music) and he said he liked those way better than ‘Fake Love’ (the song that got the most western recognition) also if u only stan bts lol sis ur missing out on a lot lmfao, and i’m not even just talking about kpop. there are a lot of western groups that i stan including kpop groups. i’m kinda the ultimate fan girl :P i stan 30+ kpop groups and a couple of western groups, even older ones. so i really don’t get it when people say that they only stan bts but u know it’s their opinion i guess. they’re just missing out on a lot in my opinion. okay sorry this was super long but thanks for coming to my ted talk:P

I thought I would finish watching the video feeling triggered and annoyed just like many other unpopular BTS opinion videos, but I must say this really surprised me. Thank you for approaching these topics being open-minded. Unpopular opinion(s): ARMYs talk about how they like their old music, but if they went back to their old music and repeated the same concept lots of people would call their music "repetitive" and "unoriginal." I can't decide if i like their old or new music better. I genuinely love both and can't decide. Like 'love is not over' and 'outro: wings' are so good but 'best of me' and 'so what' ARE BOPS. Hobi is the best dancer in bts. I see a lot of people say its jimin, jimin is my bias but hobi is so skilled and sophisticated when he dances. I still like Run and I Need U much more than any other release but I get singles that I like from their new work too. I just haven’t been into any of their title tracks since BS&T. Just because I don’t like stuff like Mic Drop, Fake Love, or Idol doesn’t mean I don’t understand why they are popular. I am not a huge fan of the super colourful psychedelic, ‘in your face’ aesthetic but I do think it’s cool to check out their new stuff at least once. I have never heard the opinion that bts is overated. That's not true but I do think that fake love and especially Dna was tooooooo over hyped. And also I hate when people say ALL armies are terrible. Just because a good Portion are fucked up does not mean we all are.

And here we are, the 90 percent of ARMYs that are not toxic or even multi fandom, like me, and see how our fandom is seen as the most toxic one because of these 10 percent of toxic ARMYs... it really hurts to see such comments, but I can only agree - I see more and more ARMYs under videos of other Kpop groups hating on them... If you belong to these people (or the same kind of another fandom), please stop for a moment and think about what you are doing! Just enjoy the music of the group you like, and respect the other groups! Nobody forces you to watch their videos or cheer for them... Also, I really appreciate if ANY Kpop group has success on international level... In my country (and probably in a lot of european countries, too), Kpop has a certain stigma or prejudice to it, if people ask me what kind of music I like, and I say Kpop, they usually request someone else but me to play some music without even trying, or say that they look feminine (and thus they dont like their music...what?). So If Kpop is more popular around the world, people get used to it and these prejudices disappear. Is BTS' music going downhill? Hella no, they have changed their style from hip-hop to pop, but change is something good - imagine 5 years of hip-hop bts, apart from less international success, this would've most likely been boring. As they have developed their own styles, I am also not sure if they would even want to produce something more hip-hop like. So, i've spit my tae for now, still was an entertaining video, have a nice day, bye!

Is funny how anyone liked BTS as long as they didn't win any award, now anyone feels threatened that just hates them. With that being said there is a certain percentage of people that are toxic in every fandom let's say 5%. But since ARMYs are a huge fandom like millions that 5% means more people than the 5% of a fandom made from thousands of people, but still is 5%. So if you say a fandom is the most toxic you are just hating on them and let's say there are a lot of fandoms who play the victim after hating on BTS and ARMYs when ARMYs fire back to them.

I partially agree with the opinion on ARMYs. As you said, most fans are very young and don't know what they're doing with their lives, but we've all seen more mature ARMYs defending the group/attacking the offenders. I think the reason behind these types of reactions is the fact that ARMYs know how hard BTS have worked to get where they are and the amount of shit that was thrown at them. Since the very beginning, BTS have been a controversial group, which caused people to attack them for a lot of things and try to ruin their name. Because of this, ARMYs became very defensive and they will do EVERYTHING to protect BTS. But when you look past that defensive facade it'll always be shitposts and memes and friendship. So many ARMYs have learned from their mistakes and I can tell you for a fact that 90% of them hate fanwars and just want to stan their group in peace. Of course, as the group gets bigger, their fanbase will grow as well, resulting in more immature fans who start the fanwars in the first place. We, ARMYs who have been around longer and are more mature, are trying everything we can to teach the fans what we have learned. But, of course, that's not always possible, as is the case with many other fandoms. Overall, I believe that ARMYs are very kind and generous souls, especially to each other. Just the other day on twitter I saw ARMYs discussing the interview with BTS at the Grammy museum tomorrow, asking fans who will be there to be respectful and quiet. Some fans were having a crisis over not having an outfit fancy enough to wear, to which others responded by offering to give their own clothes so the people that went there wouldn't be embarrassed. We're just one big family who deeply care for each other, learning to care the same way for other fandoms. Cause at the end of the day, our logo represents more than just a shield for BTS, it's also a shield for ourselves and those who ask to be protected and accepted, no matter what fandom they're from.

So I'm late, but re: BTS is going downhill. I absolutely agreed with everything you said (except I loved Idol, and that's just my opinion). BTS should be allowed to experiment with their music style the way they want to. We shouldn't forget how involved the members are with the production of their own music, and no matter how they change, I would much rather listen to music that they've put so much work into, that is genuine and authentic to their feelings, and they love and are proud of rather than some forced, manufactured crap like a lot of other (Western and Korean) artists put out just to appease the masses. I've always found that my favourite tracks turn out to be the ones that they were most involved in (I will never get over mono, AGUST D, and Hopeworld, and I highkey would love for all the members to have solo mixtapes), and I personally want to hear more of the things they want to write, without them having to worry about people hating them for "changing styles".

This is the only opinion i am willing to accept. you took the word outta my mouth, so many people get away by hating on BTS because alot of kpoppies back them up with "Its an opinion" when the comment literally displays their hate. I literally got attacked for stanning a single group because they couldn't accept i called myself a kpop fan, i mean its true i stan only one group but i listen to all the songs that are bops. 😶 ARMYs get looked down on alot of times without even a reason and its really hurtful hearing those judgemental comments when you dont even have a clue what you are getting hated for💔
