love the compositions in this!! I don't think people critiquing this understand how insane it is that the fluid is running in a real time at this level of fidelity. UE/Fluid Flux is so close to photorealism, and to be honest it looks perfect from far away.

I'd love a game where all you do is play with realistic water.. Like divert the flow inland, make little streams, watch how things erode, build a dam, just a sandbox that lets you mess with the water and earth. Maybe something like that already exists.. But probably nothing that looks like this video. As a kid, I'd spend countless hours in my mom's garden building little streams with the garden hose. It was my favorite thing to do as a kid, and it would be fun to do that in a virtual world.

I was just thinking earlier about how amazing it's going to be when hardware becomes good enough to fully realize this fidelity in VR. I really do think there will be a market for relaxation purposes. Imagine if you could like choose books and read them in an environment like this. Soothing.

It looks nice, to a point. Water moving with this much energy past so many rocks should be splashing, expelling droplets and spray out and up (and back down to the stream again) with varying degrees of force. Without those things water flow looks sanitised at best. Obviously that's a whole ballache of extra work, but you have already got off to an amazing start with this environment 👍
@hunterh3d
@hunterh3d Жыл бұрын
Nah I disagree, you have to put in perspective the actual physics of this compared to all the other prior iterations of water sims used before, Houdini and Embergen only came close after MUCH tweaking. Wet maps are secondary simple stuff, can be easily done in addition to secondary particle for splashing or whatever. The thing that deserves full credit here is how realistically the current hugs the creek side bank rocks and undulates - that is SUPER impressive, one of the best I've seen that looks like real life. Go stare into a fast moving stream and observe the same things.

Adding wetness to tocks near water would be a nice detail
@jeronimo1338
@jeronimo1338 Жыл бұрын
I agree, it felt like the water would sometimes flow towards a rock, then simply disappear when hitting it, where it should have risen up and flown over or around it. This adds up with the water being a little too fast IMHO, where otherwise one wouldn't have noticed it that much.

@marknickells6097 , if you take constructive criticism so personally in your own work, you will never grow. Nothing of what is being said is meant to take anything away from the artists work. It is meant as - "hey, let me help you polish this beautiful gem, that you have created, so it shines even more". Get a grip...

They aren't his assets. He bought a bunch of stuff and just placed it in the UE Editor. You can learn to do this in like 5 minutes. The only unique thing is the bokeh filter on the camera, which he also bought from the marketplace. This isn't skill, it's money lol. Almost everything on his artstation is a bought asset or like Daz and Metahuman models. He has like one hand modeled character on his page and it's amateur at best. My point is, that you can do everything he is, and very likely more. Believe in yourself. There are frauds like this everywhere.
@samgielen
@samgielen Жыл бұрын
@@omgitsbats That’s a lot of assuming buddy. Were you looking over my shoulder while I was creating this? I have no aspiration to be a character artist, nor have I ever claimed to have modeled all those kitbash assets. I’m a 3D generalist with the most interest in lighting and cinematography and I can practice those skills using any assets I see fit, as long ad I pay the fair price for them. You’re essentially saying all Art Directors, Supervisors, Lighting Artist and Cinematographers are unskilled because they work with third party assets. I’ve never worked with Daz even, and the bokeh effect are camerasettings. I don’t really think you know what you are talking about; this is truly the dumbest comment I’ve seen on any of my videos so far. You can like or dislike my work as much as you want, but talking down the skill level of someone you don’t know and about something you clearly know little about yourself, is laughable and unserious.
@SamuTheFrog
@SamuTheFrog Жыл бұрын
@omgitsbats It's not about the assets, its about what the creator does WITH the assets. Literally anyone can download them, but it takes a patient and trained mind to put them to actual use. This field is a rabbit hole of a million different knowledges and skills slapped together into one little package, ofc he didnt do everything himself. You do realize everything shown in the video would have taken this whole man's life to do if he did it from scratch, right? Also, have you not seen how AAA devs have even done the same in the past? Hell, i can think of 3 avtually good games made entirely from UE assets, meanwhile, on the flipside I can also think of about 2 trillion games using those same assets that are absolute trash. This guy's using resources he has access to because he can, and he's doing great work with them. If you're so jealous & upset about yourself that you need to take it out on others like this, thats sad and you need to reevaluate your life. You gotta think of unreal engine as a canvas, and these assets are his brushes & paints. No he didn't make them, but he's made DAMN good use OF them. Furthermore, its just a youtube video. Not even like a fuckin full production thing that hes charging your money for, so calm down hater. Its just a man doin what he loves.

@@ClémentCHAMARD The defocus isn’t super clean in all the shots though, I still wish it was way better. I’m just trying to be very careful with the amount of defocus and I try to frame very high contrast areas out of my shot. Additionally I’m using a squeeze factor of 2 on my lens setting, making the DOF anamorphic, which adds to the look and quality, I think. About how much time did you put into tweaking the fluid settings for the fast moving stream bits? I've never seen a creek stream so impressive before and accurate to real life. A creek bed does not spray, look like white water rapids, or have crazy turbulence going on that you see in most "water stream" sims for a creek, THIS though doesn't have any of that and behaves VERY close to real life, pretty much the best work I've ever seen, fantastic job. I gotta get into Fluid Flux in 2024 it seems like an awesome Embergen equivalent for UE.
@samgielen
@samgielen Жыл бұрын
Tweaking the settings was for sure one of the things that took the most time. I think out of the 10 days it took to make this, easily 2 of them go to fluid flux. Niagara Fluids also has a 3D water sim and it looks even better for small bodies of water! But Fluid Flux remains the best choice for these kinds of things untill Niagara Fluids is more optimised. I’m seeing several comments saying they’re missing splashes from the water, and apart from the water wheel, I kind of disagree, because that’s not what real life reference looks like. As long as there are no big drops, splashes don’t tend to happen
