When my husband and I became Catholics we liked to say “No one knows how to say ‘It’s not about you, it’s about Jesus!’ better than Catholics.” It took us a while to get used to because prior to that it was ALWAYS about us! Our tastes, our interpretation of Scripture, our comfort level, our thoughts... It is very humbling to have all of that turned on it’s head and learn that it truly IS about Jesus Christ and His Church. Great videos and welcome home!

Before Vatican II, in the Traditional Latin Mass, it was MORE about Jesus, as the priest, in alter Christus, faced Ad Orientem during Consecration. That is, he faces the tabernacle on the high altar. It’s another reason older churches have the tabernacle centered in the Sanctuary and not shoved in a barren broom closet sized room at the side or back of Church. Architecture used to communicate our faith in symbols.

I was an Evangelical Protestant before becoming Catholic, so I can relate to the fantastic hospitality and effusive friendliness that the majority of Protestant churches offer. When I first started going to Mass, I was surprised that no one greeted me, and there was no coffee afterward. Two years after becoming Catholic, though, I kind of appreciate that I can go into a different parish, and no one makes a big deal out of it. :)

@@Alwayslearnimg Amen yes! I am an introvert, but not antisocial. However i am also chronically depressive. The last thing i want to do when i am in a crisis is drag others down or hang out with other depressives, so i withdraw. After multiple treatment failures (and i still suffer from medication side effects years after going off all medication) my coping consists of (among other things) keeping my sense of humor and always going to mass when obligated. I am often a stranger to those around me, and i am often a bigger stranger to those whom i love more often, but i am never a stranger to God. I feel what i used to feel was an inexplicable sense of family with even the remotest of strangers around me when i go to mass. But i have come to understand this sense of family over the years as something deeper which i possibly can never "touch" in this life, but which i know i can look forward to embracing in the next.

I always felt the feeling of having a family whenever I go to mass even in other country. I love the feeling when I enter a church full of quiet crowd,praying and preparing themselves to recieve the eucharist for me those are some of the things why I remain as a Catholic, my parents converted to other denomination long time ago.They asked me and my sister to convert with them though we tried to go with them for maybe 5-6 times of service and months of bible studies with them. But I never felt the peace and the feeling of home there, then my parents told us if we are not comfortable with their newfound faith we can go back to where our heart belongs. So me and my sister return to Catholic church we dig deeper in our faith, studied the catechism and serve in the mass in our small village.

Your discussion about how Protestants divide up worship services according to preferences is so spot on. Thank you! As a Catholic, I am amazed at how wonderful friendships and bonding occurs across socioeconomic and age groups than I experienced in Protestant churches. Also, it was the friendship and support of the women of our parish that brought my wife into the faith. All the explaining I could do failed to convince her, but the friendship of a group of women, mostly older than us, who included her in everything, prayed the Rosary with her, and brought her to Eucharistic Adoration, won her heart, and she entered the Church in 2018.

I ride bicycles long distance. 1000s of miles. I get stopped by the police a lot and questioned. Recently I was cycling all day over 100miles and found a 7pm mass on Sunday evening. I was dirty and sweaty and decided to stay in the back so as not to bother the people. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a police officer walking towards me. My thought was “Someone called the police on me, again.” Instead the cop walked right up to me and kneeled down besides me. I was wrong, again.

Nester, awesome testimony. Have you realised yet? Unlike many Protestant churches, Catholics don’t aim just to be saved. We aim to be holy ! We are not drawn to entertainment but towards being the body of Christ. My aim is to avoid purgatory or spend as little time there but to enter the gates of heaven if that is possible. Mother Mary has promised to help us in the rosary.

Ron Ashman Not from your amended Protestant Bible. Try the original bible - the Catholic Bible. Anyway where in the Bible does it say that everything has to be found in the Bible. When He ascended to Heaven, Jesus left 11 apostles but no bible. Anyway, most Protestants worship the Bible. We worship God. How can man restrict Almighty God who created the Heavens and all in it to an earthly book notwithstanding being divinely inspired. The book cannot restrict Jesus who is God. In John’s Gospel, Jesus says “ unless you are are born again of spirit and water, you cannot enter the gates of heaven “ but when Jesus was on the cross, he told the unbaptised good thief “Today you will be with me in paradise.” I have no problems with that. I won’t restrict God to a book often interpreted by flawed men.

@@ronashman8463 purgatory is not a third place other than heaven and hell, it is only a state of purification for the souls that are bound to go to heaven but have stain of non-mortal sins. Technically we only have two destinations, heaven or hell. But most souls are unclean to enter heaven and so if a soul doesn't have any mortal sin but have sins it needs to be purified. That's where purgatory gets in.
@wilsonwong4029
@wilsonwong4029 4 жыл бұрын
@@ronashman8463 Purgatory is needed because to enter heaven one must be perfect and pure. Although the term purgatory is not found in the Bible, many verses in the Bible are showing the need for purification. Yes, I agreed sacrifice of Christ redeems our sins but not the sins in the future. John 5:14 "..sin no more, let the worse come to you." In John 8: 11, Jesus again warned, " go and sin no more". We know one cannot enter heaven if one is not pure as stated in Heb 12:23 " souls in heaven having been made perfect." Rev 21:27 "nothing unclean shall enter heaven." John 13: 10 “Whoever has already bathed (through baptism) needs only to wash his feet, and he will be completely clean. Purification is needed to wash away our remaining sins. Luke 12:59 "you will never get out until you pay your last penny." 1 Cor 3:15 .. shows one can be saved through fire. Malachi 3: 2-3 and Zechariah 13:8-9 talking about refining to gold and silver in order to become the people of God. Heb 12: 6-11 "the Lord disciplines the one he loves and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son. Judaism also believes in the possibility of after-death purification in the concept of Gehenna similar to purgatory.

@@supershooter20 you won't prove it's existence from ANY Bible, because it is a man made invention. To your question where does it say in the Bible that everything has to be in the Bible? 2 Tim 3:16. If a doctrine is not in the book, it is a human fallacy. Lastly you make a blanket statement that Protestants worship the Bible. I have never met one. Sadly most are woefully lacking in knowledge and application of it.

My small parish has a holy hour for men and one for women one Sunday night per month. It consists of Eucharistic Adoration, confession, a pot-luck dinner and a meaningful talk by our priest with discussion and questions afterward. There is hospitality (a full lunch, free-will donations) every Sunday after the 10:30 a.m. Mass. I'm also in a prayer group of about 14 women that meets once a week. It's awesome to get together with people and you don't have to be athletic, or outgoing, or have a certain occupation or a certain interest. Just be Catholic, and you are united. I'm looking forward to the Rosary Coast to Coast event that will be hosted there tomorrow afternoon.

Fellowship for everyone but especially men is critical, I think to our faith. Next week our K of C council is organizing a work party at our church in New Hampshire to help with a list of repair and construction tasks our pastor has. Lunch will be provided by the knights with hot dogs and burgers. Beer and cigars are optional, and if consumed will be in moderation. We will have our 2nd annual Corn Hole tournament in the church parking lot and the day will be capped with a group rosary. Nothing like spending a Saturday with a group of committed and devoted Catholic men along with our FSSP priests. Nothing like having a group rosary with spiritual warriors. Vivat Jesus!

Ya know what shocked and surprised me when I came to the church? It was NOT dismissing the kids for "children's church". Kids are AMAZING at worship! Seriously, the Mass is so genius with all of the times we move. We are standing, we are kneeling, we are processing, we are praying throughout, but not for so long that a small child gets bored. I mean, maybe some do, but my daughter was 5 when we arrived at the Catholic church. She was baptized just before she turned six. By the first month of her sixth year she could participate in the entire Mass. She could sing the Gloria, she could say the Creed, she could recite the Our Father. My son was 11 and has ADHD. Even he could take in the Mass. It's like the predictability of it was soothing to him. I have no idea. I'm still in awe of it. We are all Catholic now except my middle child, age 11, but even she fully participates in the Mass (aside from the fact that she can't receive the sacraments). We have very young children often sitting near us and man, those parents just power through, even when their 18 month old kids are super wiggly. I find it amazing. I found myself wondering why every Protestant church I had ever attended boots the little ones out. It's just so different

Católicos OnlineBR Agree. My immediate observation at a non-Catholic service ( albeit not a hostile one) is that it is people-centric and not Christ-centric. Like a talent show, the main players are the main “entertainment “ and it is really a social club. I am a Catholic since 17 and though I noticed many priests lack oratory skills, I know the Gospel reading are enough to teach us because Jesus as God, is God and the best teacher.

Your comment made me realize something that I have seen touched on in other discussions I've encountered from Protestants first confronting their experiences of the Catholic Mass/Divine Liturgy. You more clearly expressed it here. The Mass, properly conducted, is ordered not to the worshipper, but to the One being worshipped. Many parishes in the last fifty years, unfortunately, have departed from this, but we do not conform the Mass to the congregation, the congregation conforms itself to the Mass."... until I went into the sanctuary of God, then I understood …"

It is so different according to parishes, regions, countries... Actually in many places there are masses for children, youngs, sutdents... In our parish in France there are some people distributing the Sunday parish sheet to coming people and frequently cause with them. We priests try to be a few minutes by the door greeting coming people before the entry procession, but actually do not like much that people cause in the church before mass, we prefer that they be in prayer. Recently we have instaured a Taizé background music before mass in order to lead people to interior prayer. On the opposite at the end of mass it is the explosio. We stay by the door greeting leaving people: we cause a lot with them, theycause with one another a little bit everywhere, but there is the chapel of the BS, where people who prefer to spend time in silence after the mass can isolate from the noise

How, your church must have been amazing. I have been over 70ish different churches and very very very few of them would come over and talk to us. Pretty much it was walk in. Walk out. We could go there for a couple months and still only have talked to 1 person. But it is funny. At a job I worked out I became what I call Work friends. Customers or coworkers who I consider friends but have no interaction outside of the job sadly. Well anyhow there was this one gentleman named Jack Oliver. He owned a car dealership next to where I worked at a grochery store. He would come in everyday for lunch and I gt my car worked on there. He was one of the best men I knew and if I was having a bad day unknown to him he always made it better. We were very similar, both happy go lucky do anything for anybody. Well, he passed away last year after a month long fight with covid. I was surprised when I found out that he was a catholic. I had been studying it for a while and it just made so much sense. I don't know why but I'm behind sight I am surprised I didn't see it. He was something special, a true gift of God. He also was big into community, always went out of his way to meet somebody new. Came out after his death that he had helped TONS of people in the area. But I said all this pretty much to say every catholic I have met, and it seems like every person who was super joyful has been catholic, which that along with my aunt converting has gotten me interested in Catholicism. I like your term. Exploring.

It is because the Mass is to worship The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. It is not about the people. Catholic means universal, therefore, our belief is centered on Him. Dont need people to say or share coffee. I am there to receive Him.

LOL. 😉 But as a cradle Catholic who came home when I was 30, I have to tell you I always love your talks. May our Good LORD bless you and keep you close during this great journey home to Heaven. In Protestantism- are there any services other than a worship service? I asked a friend and he was stumped. I'm assuming 'worship service' is just a way of speaking. But it sounds as though there is another service? In Catholicism all services are for worship. Funerals, Marriage, Confirmation....

You also get this sense of community, with all sorts of different people from all over the world, when participating mass with the pope. Here outside the St Peter's Basilica in Rome during the canonization of John Henry Newman: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnuVo3WapM5mma8 The Catholic church is truly universal with God at its head.

Is this what some people in the Amazonian synod are doing..breaking us up into groups like protestantism? Design worship according to what kind of person was present..what they liked..instead of God being the center of their worship...VERY GOOD

Keith Nester oh, I thought the Band-Aid might’ve been from your friends and family beating you over the head for becoming Catholic. I hear lots of rejection stories from protestants who become Catholic. I also truly thought you are ready to be beat up for the Lord for proclaiming the truth. Welcome home my friend, just subscribed. God bless.

Joseph Thank you so much! I’d like to think I’d take a beating for Jesus. I’ve had a few rough spots from those opposed to my conversion but also lots of support. God is good. Whatever we lose to convert is nothing compared to what is gained. Praise the Lord

I'm almost embarrassed to suggest this to you. When I pray the rosary at night in my bed, my cats love to " claw at " my dangling rosary! My idea was to design a rosary bed blanket, that had a quilted rosary design positioned at the head of the blanket, where the pillows would be. Then you could simply place your hands on the quilted "beads" of the rosary and pray without cat interruption! Can you direct me to someone who can design such a blanet? I see you design your own t shirts and I thought you would be the person to ask.

It’s the opposite in my experience. Novus Ordo has 10 different masses on Sunday, each in a different style. RCIA guy says that “there’s a mass for everybody”. Meanwhile low church Protestant, every one is just together and praising God in the same way and that’s it.

There are some amazes that change the style slightly to accommodate youth or a cultural community. However anyone can still go to those Masses. I was at youth Mass last night even though I am 40 years , I cringed at some of the guitar music but quickly reminded myself that this is for youth. Ultimately ‘segregated’ Masses dont exist. Slightly adapted Mass liturgies so but only sometimes in some Parishes

NL John 6:53-57 - there’s still the Eucharist in protestant churches. People explain it in different ways, but it’s still there.
