Thank you for your love of God, the Scriptures and love of all of God’s children. My husband and I have listened to every lesson you have taught in Unshaken. It has gotten us through many hours of travel each weekend to take care of my dying mother and through other challenging times in our family. it has helped us to stay focused on our Savior through trying times. We pray for you to be blessed with inspiration, strength, time and joy to continue to be able to help us, learn and grow and stay connected to God. Thank you for teaching us how to become better disciples of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your lifetime of preparation. We greatly love ❤ and appreciate you.

Thank you for your podcasts. I started listening in June and now going back to all the videos from the beginning. I meant to leave a comment for a while now, but today I really appreciate your honest and sincere feelings about the lack of the spirit in the latter day Saints worship. I too am guilty of that and I see that sometimes we hide in "truth" or proud of it that forget the importance of the spirit. I listen to your podcasts several times a day and often think about what you said throughout the day. I am in Primary and those discussions really supplement what I miss in adult Sunday school and RS. Thank you for your work you put into those wonderful videos, cannot thank you enough.

Thank you Rabbi for your teaching on John 4:24. How enlightening. I have thought and felt about this for some time. May I share a simple way I have come to think/feel about it? Spirit = Feeling/Emotion = Heart Truth = Thought/Intelligence = Mind Revelation involves heart and mind. Worship involves heart and mind. That is, "worship Him in spirit and in truth." Thanks again!

How I love your teachings about the Tree of life and the Living water: Awesome!! I knew about both, but missed the most important part, that I can have them within me, and take them with me wherever I go! I love it, it really makes me happy and I understand that where much is given, much is asked (responsibility)!Thank you so much for your time and effort, to share your knowledge and truth.

I, for one, appreciate the discussion on spirit and truth. We can certainly learn from the spirit and deep feeling we see in our Christian brothers and sisters. We could use more of that, in our singing of hymns, our testifying of Christ in our every day moments, in our adoration and love of Him.

This story is a story of great mercy, regardless of your sin, there is a free gift of the Living Water. Once you receive the living water it will always flow springing up to eternal life. True worship is about loving and serving God, only in spirit and truth. Jesus tore the veil in two in the temple upon His resurrection the old testaments external system was finished. The temples, alters, sacrifices, ceremonies, gone, now everywhere is a sanctuary and everyone is a priest. A new area of worship was ushered in, the truth in scripture, the bible, and to love God with all your heart, "I who speak to you AM He". The I Am.

About the wine....How can 15 large containers stay preserved from spoiling over a weeks time without refrigeration? Easy... fermentation was one preservation process before refrigeration. Briefly -By combining sugar and natural fresh fruit, in a warm environment, it causes lactobacilli to grow - which is a good bacteria. Good bacteria prevents bad bacteria from growing. The good bacteria eats the sugar and gives off gas which causes the drink to form carbonated bubbles...This type of drink has as much alcohol as over ripe fruit. There are different types of alcohol. Naturally fermented drinks can not become "alcoholic" as in today's type of alcoholic drinks. "The Art of Fermentation" by Sandor Katz explains how all civilizations depended on fermentation processes for the preservation of foods. Sauerkraut, Kefir (which is fermented milk) yogurt...are examples of fermented foods that do not need refrigeration. (modern processing causes the need for refrigeration). Studies show this type of fermentation contributes to gut health and vitamin and mineral absorption. I make my own fermented ginger ale. These fruit and root drinks are also very hydrating - after manual labor and no air-conditioning they were a necessity for hydration. "Root beer" originally was made by fermenting the roots of herbs. There are methods to make brewed alcoholic drinks. But it is a different process.

I love it. I have Sandor's little Natural Fermentation book. I develop natural yeast start and make sourdough bread with 3/4 whole wheat, which I grind, and 1/4 whole flour. I use only 4 ingredients, flour, water, salt, and start. It rises beautifully and is so tangy.

It is Christ we're talking about right? What He does should it be questioned? I mean, He is not just a human. He is the only begotten son of GOD! He can turn water into wine and you are wondering how it will not spoil? It's not just a wine that people can make. It's special wine with no need for fermentation or anything else. Think about what you say!

The Gospels, what a great and dangerous time. Wonderous, for we see the Lord has come His first time, but dangerous, for as the Lord heals, feeds, and casts out devils, His notoriety grows, but so does His encroachment upon the power of the weakness of men.

Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink! He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.” But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.

I love your presentations each week and the additional insights you bring to the scriptures however I do have a comment on your comparison of Evangelical and LDS worship. My husband of 40 years is a staunch Evangelical (yes I've been working on him...) and I've attended church with him many times over the years. It's not always the case but often times I find their worship to be more of a "show". Yes they're very enthusiastic but once the service is over they're out the door to the park, the lake, the football game or whatever as fast as possible. The Latter day Saints service is sometimes "boring" and yes we do have a problem with "cultural Mormons" but I do think a good portion actually do have the "fire in the belly" when it comes to their testimony and understanding. I think many actually are spiritually fed and feel the spirit each week as they renew their covenants-they are just private about it and it's not always on display in Sacrament meeting. A few years ago my husband had brain cancer. Guess who came over to give him a blessing? Guess who brought meals over (for several weeks) Guess who raked the leaves in the fall and shoveled the snow that winter? Guess who would come and sit with him and make sure he took the medicine he needed when I had to go to work? Yeah - the boring Mormons...what did we get from the spirit filled Evangelicals during that same year? Exactly ONE voice-mail letting us know they were "praying" for us. Anyway, I do know there are a lot of good sincere Evangelicals (my husband being one) I just think we have to be careful how we compare one to another.

I have a question for anyone who wants to answer. I’ve been pondering about the “never thirsting”. As I type this out, I’m starting to have ideas come into my mind. But at first, I questioned the idea of “never thirsting”, because we have a continuous need to be replenished with the gospel and a continuous need to be nourished by the good word of God. So I thought, “Doesn’t that mean we will thirst again?” But I think thirst comes from a lack of water. You can keep yourself hydrated and not thirst in that sense. It doesn’t mean you don’t rely on the water for survival, just that you don’t feel like it’s missing from your life. The gospel can feel the same way when we keep our baptismal covenants and “always have the Spirit to be with us.” So have any of you experienced this “never thirsting” and is it in the way I’ve described or is it something even deeper?

Brother Halverson, I don't think I can describe how much I get out of your discussions. My husband and I take the whole of each week going working our way through each of your lessons. I find some things that I feel that I would so much love to be able to sit down and talk with you about. You talk about your work with people in faith crisis. I'm 66, having joined the Church as a medical student in Cape Town, South Africa. So that means that I have been an active member, who loves the Gospel for 46 years. I was married in the Salt Lake temple and we have 5 wonderful children and 10 equally wonderful grandchildren. Now, following all that introduction (rather like yours), I find myself battling with some aspects of my faith. It's difficult to explain it all. I have over the last 15 or more years been suffering from mental and neurological disorders. Perhaps that has something to do with it. But I find it difficult to really understand and accept your talking of being an evangelical Latter Day Saint. What does that really mean? I have no difficulty in accepting people of any other faiths, be they whoever they may be. My home in South Africa is certainly a country of many differences in culture, language and religion and that's fine. But I'd really like to understand that the Gospel that I embraced with such joy, knowing that we have prophet to lead and teach us, seems to not be considered enough. I presume that you are too busy to even read all your comments , let alone respond, but I really need help. I have loved the Gospel for so long, and I fear the thought of losing it.

I think he is talking about what the word evangelical means and how we can have that desire and spirit to spread the good news. Mental health has been a huge struggle for me and feeling like my agency is limited and I can't feel the spirit and I can't make progress and feeling like if its true I have to be able to make it work for me but It just doesn't seem to. A few things I've learned 1. Ask God to show you the ways it is working for you ask Him to show you your progress. 2 cling to your higher self for the bits of agency your mental health does give you. In that moment you realize you do have a choice choose God and 3. Believing in God even when i don't feel like it brings me peace when I need it most because that is always when I need peace the most. I used to flip flop back and forth back and forth is it true, do I believe this, is it just a good way to live and I was tormented and anxious never feeling solid in who I was. One day I decided I had enough evidence of my life going better and my heart feeling the church was true that I was going to be DONE arguing with myself about it. I was going to choose to believe no matter what. I have had a weight lifted off of me since the time I have made that choice. I have had my life fall apart and felt closer to the Lord than ever since making that choice. I have had answers to questions that bothered me for years just come to me as I clean house. The Gospel is true I know it with all my heart. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have since Bro H doesn't often have time to be in the comments. You are not alone!

@@latterdaycovenantliving Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment. i suppose that one of my biggest challenges was when I was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy after years of Bipolar disorder. Which came first? Should they both have been diagnosed together earlier? Who knows , but I do think that my battle with my faith may have been around that time. I have pleaded for peace, for strength in my testimony and I have tried to hold desperately to my testimony through the scriptures and prayer "Lord, I believe. Help thou mine unbelief." I battle when someone that I really look up to and respect gives me cause to doubt, I'm sure not needing to. But I feel like I don't understand. I do want to believe. The plan of salvation is so important to me. I love the saviour and Heavenly Father. Surely that must mean that I do still have a testimony. So why my agonising? I'm sure this is all unnecessary. Thanks again. I don't expect you to take the time for this again.

@Sally-Ann Powrie don’t you worry about it I’m. Stay at home mom with teen children I have more time than most to help where I can and I find great joy in it. I don’t have bipolar but I have loved ones that do I know it can be so challenging. I didn’t get two important diagnosis till my late twenties, ADHD and Celiac disease leaving me to assume I was terrible at everything and with a weak prone to sickness constitution. In 2020 I finally got another puzzle piece about dissociation where I’m all one emotion with the memories associated or the other my positive and negative emotions and memories just don’t connect. So I can understand a little bit of what it’s like to have bipolar even though it’s not exactly the same it’s a take over and you really do loose more agency than people who don’t have mental health problems like this can actually fathom. I know you are doing better than you think you are otherwise you wouldn’t be here listening to Bro H even when you are feeling blue. I agree you definitely have a testimony and I think the knowledge that it’s okay that your testimony is hard and you don’t always get to choose how you feel about it is liberating you don’t have to expect your self to have the same thoughts and habits as the people who get to choose their thoughts and actions all the time. That knowledge can also help you find more joy in choosing the right when you do have that power. With my condition the more I find joy in my agency the more agency I reclaim. I was able to heal the depression I suffered from from my teens to late 20’s by following the book “the depression cure” I definitely hyper focused on it and basically only did what was in the book and fed my children for 3 months and one morning I woke up with a smile on my face and was like huh, I don’t feel good but I’m happy this is weird. Anyhow eventually I stopped following the book but the results stay I have only felt normal depression that eases when the depressing time passes. I have also received a blessing that miraculously healed me of debilitating anxiety when I had to get through the toughest situation in my life. I don’t know what Gods plan for you and your mental health is but if he has had help and miracles for me I know he will have them for you I’m no better than anyone else I didn’t earn anything through doing all my scriptures prayers and temple work I just called out to him when I could and received strength beyond my own and that made me worthy. Now I am trying to call down blessings to my family and trying to go to the temple 2 wives a week so I can take the Lord up on his offer of extra power and blessings. I will put your name in the temple when I next go and pray for you. You are loved! -my spelling and grammar are the most ADHD part of me I hope everything made sense.

You mentioned that some of your Protestant friends found out Sacrament Meetings boring. That is sometimes a fair criticism. They have an advantage in their church services because they often have a professional ministry. Their ministers are trained to give sermons. On the other hand we have amateurs preaching every week. Boring talks are sometimes a side effect of an all lay ministry. I do think that there are some simple things that can be done to improve Sacrament Meeting talks. I was in a ward once where after assigning someone to speaking church, the bishop would give the speaker a letter which gave brief instructions on how to give a proper talk. It pointed out that there could be people who were visiting church for the first time. The most important counsel was to testify of Christ. I observed that the Sacrament Meeting talks in this ward were better than usual. I attribute that to the basic instructions that the speakers were given.

Brother Halverson, thank you for the time that you take in these lessons. I have listened three times to how you portrayed the woman at the well. I must respectfully disagree. As per your chart, she was female, a Samaritan, she was despised an outcast she had to go to the well in the middle of the day to fetch water, so as not to be, judged by the other women. I would suggest this woman was very timid, insecure frightened, wondering why a Jewish man would come and sit with her. She didn’t know his name so of course, she would call him, sir out of respect, she didn’t have means, she was an outcast. I do not believe she was flippant. I believe she was very humble and timid. Knowing within herself, she was not good enough to speak with this Jewish man. That’s how I want to see the woman at the well. ❤

Brother Halverson, I’ve heard your thoughts, and gentle chiding of LDS members, in this and other videos about “boring” LDS sacrament meetings. I’ve wondered if your evangelical friends would say something similar about General Conference, which with the occasional exception of Elder Holland, tends to be more “sacrament-meeting-like” than Evangelical-church-like. My guess is that most Bishops are going to discourage more dynamic sacrament meetings until they look to the leaders of the church and see something similar.

Brother Halverson, I am surprised that you haven't talked about this anomaly with the Gospel of John and the synoptic gospels. When I was looking at the comparison of the four Gospels in the LDS scriptures, I noticed that between the first Passover and the third Passover the pages for John were practically empty. There are only six stories told by John, and what was more peculiar was the relationship these six stories had. The first, third, and fifth stories are about someone coming to Jesus. The second, fourth, and sixth are about Jesus coming to someone. It occurs to me as deliberate. It occurred to me that John was showing us that all who come to Christ will be fed. But those who believe Christ, He comes to them, and they are healed. And, the first two associated with the first passover, the second two with the second passover, and the third two with the third passover.

Just a short comment about your discussion about Jesus baptizing and it being 'better' than being baptized by another. When I went on my mission about 55 years ago, when the Church was a lot smaller, all the Missionaries were set apart by a General Authority. I was set apart by Elder Marion G. Romney. But today they are set apart by the Stake President. It really doesn't matter. As you will notice, the Prophet doesn't baptize many people at all. If a Priest baptizes you it is just as effective in the eyes of the Lord. My wife and I were married by Elder LeGrand Richards, same authority as any set apart sealer in any Temple. If one has the authority and the proper permission, it is the same.

John Milton Bernhisel, the physician to the Prophet Joseph Smith, who received the transcripts of the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible from Emma Smith, took upon himself to compile and organize the Prophets notes, however during that same process, he undertook translation work himself and interjected and interpolated his own works and opinions of what he felt the Prophet was translating. In this came errors and additional works attributed to the Prophet that Bernhisel had comprised. In one of many cases is the scriptures in John 3-4 "After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized". John 3:22-23 "When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)" John 4:1-2 As the Son of God He came not to baptize but authorized His servants to act in His name. He did not officiate in Aaronic Priesthood ordinances nor did He at anytime officiate in the temple ordinances in Jerusalem. He was the judge according to their affairs and did not interfere with Covenants He gave them. He was and always will be no respecter to persons, therefore no man could claim that Jesus had baptized them Although most of the JST is indeed inspired and gives us further light and knowledge on scripture and modern revelation for which the saints in these last days have greater understanding to overcome the things of this world. It is not our position to to bring contention nor decry inaccuracies but to present truth that has been established yet unseen or obscured by glass darkly wherein things are seen like unto trees but in truth are men seeking truth while groping in the dark. We seek not affirmation nor reply but rather a suggestion to discovery

I get bothered that even though we have truth, many are afraid to even talk about the gospel. There are mysteries to seek after, it is his gospel, and yet we say it's not time... Well maybe if people would start the conversation it would be time. President Nelson is all but begging us to do so. I get tired of the same old primary answers over and over. My 18 yr old son came to adult Sunday school and went away feeling discouraged, he said I was hoping for real conversation about higher things, but it was just like YM, and primary, all the same answers, all the same points, read the same verses. My wife an d I try to encourage comments, and ask questions to get people to talk about all that God offers, but we are told to not talk about those things. Well I have tasted of some of those mysteries, and they are the most sweet, I want all to partake!!! Let's not be the people that only ever say the same things every time every year, let start learning more!

Music with instruments worship is a different spirit but there’s no reverence in it. When those young ones sit in our worship it will be boring to them cos there’s no instruments playing with a beat😁😄. I can’t feel the spirit with loud sounds around🥹

Brother Jared, why don't you end your messages by saying, "in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."?
