Soooooo that is what happened when I was young! My Grandparents went to Pritkin for healing, but when they came back...my grandmother decided is was all about the salt and sugar, she cut those out. They ate meat, some veggies and few carbs with some fat, but no sugar or salt. She never gave up the idea that protein (meat) was good and fat was ok. My mother however embraced the low fat, lower protien with higher crabs and veggies of Mcgovern. My mother had lots more health issues and my grandmother had so much less.

I just heard a low carb diet needs 5-7 grams of salt per day.

I grew up in the 70s, and I remember when I was a teenager my mom hopped on the "vegetarian is good" train. She didn't out meat completely from our meals, but she became very fat- and cholesterol-phobic (it was being pushed heavily in the media then), and most of our meals were very low protein, high carb. Starting in the early 80s, I became very food focused and obsessed, which unfortunately led me down many years of a serious eating disorder. Very long story short, I am gratefully recovered now, but I suffered several decades of not nourishing myself properly, and many mental health struggles. At 60 years old now, I am reaping the consequences of the misinformation (and flat out lies) spread by the media and various organizations of the past several decades. I don't have weight problems, but I have some very concerning health problems which I believe are directly related to improper nutrition. I am learning now about how important protein is to the body, something that should have been taught all along! And fat is a necessary nutrient, not the demon it's been made out to be.

Thanks again to Eric Westman. Zoe Harcombe ranks alongside Nina Teicholz and Gary Taubes in leading the way in exposing the complete lack of scientific evidence underpinning much of the guidance still given out on nutrition and pointing the way to a healthier way to eat.

I also have a hypothesis about obesity, which shouldn't be too hard to disprove. I think obesity is caused by malnourishment. I think fat people are actually starving. They eat too much of the food that isn't good for them and they don't eat enough of the food that is good for them., After people ate more carbs and less fats and proteins, these people were basically starving and they overate the carbs. Some people will say that the carbs were refined. I say that these carbs were nutrient deficient because in the refining process, important nutrients were taken out. As a result, people eat chips, cookies and other great tasting foods that don't nourish them, and in a couple of hours they are hungry again. I am not a doctor or nutritionist, this is just a hypothesis or guess from a lay person.

Excellent guess, and actually very factual!

I have actually heard that from a scientist, can't recall exactly who. Maybe Ben Bikman. When the body does not get the nutrients it needs, a person will keep getting the signal to eat more. So as long as a person is not giving the body what it truly needs, the hunger signal won't be satiated. Everyone has had that experience with carb heavy, American-Chinese take-out , right?! 😂

Jordan Peterson theorises something similar in that obesity is a form of toxic shock, i.e. the body is seeing all these empty calories roll in so its response is to shunt them away into fat storage, almost like an autoimmune response. And yes, the release of leptin in providing satiety and controlling insulin response is greatly diminished as a result.

The interesting thing about rationing is that a lot of the population was very unhealthy because of the depression. They had been living on a high sugar, plant based diet. So while the rich had less meat, eggs and butter, the average person actually had more. And at the beginning of the war, if you couldn't afford your ration, you got it for free. Not too long latter everyone was working. The other thing about rationing isbthat sugar went down.

Dr. Westman I am from Kentucky, currently living in North Carolina. My late husband went thru Dr. Anderson's study about oat bran. He did encourage low fat and not a lot of red meat. One of the dieticians in that study even came to our house to check what foods we had. They encouraged lots of beans and low fat. My husbands cholesterol did not go down even though he stuck to the diet. I know because I did all the cooking and even packed his lunch every day. He worked at UK in the engineering dept.

You can reduce the glucose swings and have mostly stable glucose in blood by eating keto to carnivore. All the info is free on their websites. Dr Chaffee loves carnivore for great health. T1D can live much better eating low carb of 20g carbs or less each day. On low carb, you son and you will have less carb cravings. Everyone in your family can be healthy low carb eaters. They were taught in med school to diagnose and treat either with pharmaceuticals or surgery. They don’t treat the body as a whole. They treat symptoms, not the root causes. Everything in the body is connected. And the insurance companies just started paying for chiropractic medicine. They won’t cover naturalpaths or functional medicine doctors. It’s not healthcare, it’s sick care. And the pharmaceutical company support the schools studies monetarily…..

My idea of a balanced diet: Essential nutrients only, which means amino acids and fatty acids. So a 1:1 ratio of Protein to Fat would be a balanced diet. Meat & eggs tend to naturally be a 1:1 ratio when the whole animal is taken into account. Hmmm, loading 50-65% of your diet with a nonessential nutrient like carb just doesn’t seem “balanced” to me.

Quick history lesson most people don’t know so the Nazis the actual head of the party where multilingual. And they got a book when it came out in English called propaganda. This book was Madison Avenue science of sales., and persuasion! So, since that time, they’ve renamed it because the original title got a bad name from the Nazis. And now the book is called public relations. Same book. Same idea. But now it’s required reading in every business school in the world. In fact, you probably go back to multiple times. Did she say OJ needed to prove he was innocent? What country is she from? 13:00 I love her science but not her politics. Saturated fat should be innocent until proven guilty.
@johnscott38938 ай бұрын
I believe she meant to say the reverse of that is true, i.e. in criminal law the suspect is innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt, whereas in science a hypothesis is considered unproven (aka "guilty") until all reasonable proofs against it have been tested and still appears valid. She used the term "null hypothesis" from population statistics. But maybe you're right, she's describing saturated fat as the suspect in the dock so to speak.
@rawmilkmike8 ай бұрын
@johnscott3893 The null hypothesis simply states that a risk factor along suggests nothing. This means you can't base a hypothesis on a risk factor. The risk factor needs to be supported by a hypothesis. Once you have a hypothesis, you can then design a study to make it a theory. Until the theory is disproven, you can assume it to be true if you like. But no amount of evidence will make it a fact. No theory is immune to being disproven. Science is never settled. There's no such thing as a consensus. If someone uses that term with you, they're lying. In the case of a simple diet, there's no reason to go through all that. People usually eat whatever they want. Give them a reason to try something different, and most will. It doesn't matter how silly the commercial is. So, if you think a carnivore diet might work, try it. In case you didn't know this anecdotal means hidden truth. Or you could say unpublished fact.
