Thank you, thank you, thank you! Started keto 8 months ago. Read your Carb book and it was wonderful. Just had my annual physical. So discouraging that mainstream doctors try to scare us so badly. Cholesterol was 248; HDL 121; LDL 121; triglycerides 46. Doctor freaked and wanted me to go to a lipid specialist: instead, based on your recommendation in another video, I asked him to refer me for a CAC scan. Results: 0. I’m a 75 year old female that exercises daily and maintains a healthy lifestyle. This video was so reassuring to hear!

I had a CAC score done in January 2023. My score was 305. I am 77 years old. I occasionally was experiencing angina even prior to the CAC test. However, it was not while under exersion but only while at rest usually in bed. I took nattokinase for 10 months and didn't experience any improvement. I was taking 4,000 FUs a day. Then I found a PubMed study that was a year long and had 1,062 participants. It indicated that there was a significant reduction in plaque after taking 10,800 FUs of nattokinase daily. So I increased my dosage and added vitamin K2 MK7 and made an effort to walk 5,000 steps a day. Since doing that since November 15th, 2023 I've only had two angina episodes in the past (almost) four months, today being March 11th. I think that's encouraging. I eat a ketovore diet. No grains, no starches no refined foods or seed oils. Mostly meat. Limited dairy. My triglycerides to HDL ratio was 1.0 with both at 70 mg/dL My LDL was 156 and I don't care. I take zero pharmaceuticals.

On a keto diet for a couple of years now, and my cholesterol is 348 and triglycerides 75. At my last checkup, my doctor mentioned my cholesterol was high, and I immediately said, "I'm not concerned with my cholesterol," and he responded, "That's fine, it's up to you." He had also recommended a low-carb diet. I was kinda shocked, really. I might have had a different conversation with my former doctor. This was at Kaiser, btw. Perhaps they're seeing the light over there.

Your voice is critical and necessary, Dr. Westman, especially in an environment that is currently filled with people with a platform who may be well intended, but not necessarily reflecting advice grounded in (good or poor/bad) research. Thank you for sharing the facts that you are aware of, and reflecting an understanding of the market forces that are at play with regard to management of cholesterol. Frankly, I am exhausted from the time spent getting frequent lipid testing and unnecessary office followup, and pressure to take a statin, which ends up being the only focus of every annual exam , without any evidence of metabolic disorder or evaluation for heart disease

One day after her appointment at the doctor she arrived home and when she came out of the car she collapsed. For the second time in my life on a Keto diet, my HDL has fallen below "healthy" levels. I am not panicking because all of my other metabolic markers have improved dramatically. I'm just curious why my HDL drops from 45 to 38 when my health is improving. All the cholesterol discussions on Keto channels spend time debunking LDL fear mongering, but I can't find anything about raising HDL for those whose HDL drops on ketogenic diets. Is low HDL something I have to worry about?

Thank you Dr. Westman!!! The moment I want to give up on all the Dr.s....You remind me there really are wonderful Dr.s!!!!! I think the whole cholesterol thing is based on the lie that meat is bad and plants are good. But our whole digestion is designed for meat and therefore designed for fat and cholesterol. If my poor mother had only known this (if the medical field had not been duped) her life would have gone so much better, she never would have had the muscle weakness from the Statins. But as Hitler said: "Tell a big enough lie long enough and loud enough and people will believe it." We have to stop the cholesterol lie! We need Cholesterol, especially women need it! Also just listened to The "WORST Food That Feeds Dementia" a medical professor talk about how insulin could be causing Alzhiemers because it keeps the body busy trying to regulate it and the body can't fight the EsptienBar virus that could be the cause of Alzheimers...another reason to cut the carbs and eat the meat/fat!.

Olive and avocado are not vegetables! They are fruits! And these oils-especially olive oil-have been used for thousands of years with no problems! Just don’t use olive oil in a frying pan-it has a low smoke point-it turns into a trans fat. Believe me, I wish it weren’t so. Now I use beef tallow, lard, or butter/ghee. If you prefer to avoid animal products, EV coconut oil is probably your best bet.

CVoreAthlete, then there’s something the great man doesn’t know! Most keto doctors now say seed oils are toxic. I don’t need to elaborate the reasons: the scientists have already done a great job of that! Dr Lustig might be sufficiently credible to convince you, not to mention lesser lights such as Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Rob Cywes, Dr. Anthony Chaffee, and chiro Dr. Sten Ekberg. If they can’t convince you, your dad probably works for the FDA or some such. I’ve noticed Dr. Westman is not usually the first to embrace new knowledge. That conservatism may have its place, but not acknowledging the toxicity of seed oils is really a very odd stance: are you sure about his stance on this?

I had lowered my calorie intake along with increased exercise to drop from 190 to 160 pounds. My weight rose to 190 pounds after breaking both wrists. Limiting myself to 1 can of pop and 1 candy bar per day may also have helped. Doc, I recommend that you talk about the differences between low carb diets and real keto diets where the body produces at least .5 mmol/L of ketones. You should separate fact from keto fiction.

I quickly Googled and found a study published in 1991 where they used 240 as the cutoff numbers for high LDL. They keep lowering the upper limit to try to push statins on everyone.

I was told the same by my physician due to very high LDL, low triglycerides, high HDL. Didn’t want a statin so I changed diet to those low fat foods, no sugars etc but cravings with hunger jumped. So dropped dairy, egg yolks and ate grass fed beef cuts which have lower fat. That stopped those craving hunger signals.

My triglycerides have been increasing along with ldl. I'm going through a lot of stress at the moment. This apart from the fact that after taking the second vaccine dose , I began to feel very run down. I have a history of childhood and adult gout. My doctor has now asked for a screening for an autoimmune disease. Im on the keto diet. When can I hope to see a difference? I have lost weight. I wasn't morbidly obese or anything, just slightly overweight. Im worried about my trigs increasing over my hdl.

My opinion only, if you were losing weight the lipid panel would measure the body fat release. Be weight stable before having any additional lipids tested.

There are all kinds of opinions by all kinds of "qualified" experts about cholesterol. There are some who saythe importance of cholesterol levels especially LDL, while not insignificant, is highly exaggerated. While most cardiologists believe that LDL is an important marker of heart health. So who are we supposed to believe? Before the internet it was easy. You just went to your doc and whatever he told you you would usually believe.

My Dr freaked out!!! Mine was high and she said I must take repatha 😢I also have hbp which is controlled with meds - my hdl and triglycerides were 75/77 and my glucose and a1c were fine I said I'm doing keto thinking that will help her understand the high ldl but no she said well its not working for ya 😮 then I said what about the hdl trig she said oh yeah they are great but it's the ldl that's gonna kill you with a heart attack - low carb always helps the hdl/trig- whatever Dr!!!

You leave out the side effects of the statin. You may have a slight decrease in risk of death, but at what cost? Is it really worth turning yourself into a vegetable in a wheelchair? And that's if it doesn't cause diabetes. This study that shows this slight decrease in risk is done by the manufacturer of this lucrative drug. This reduction in risk does not play out in real life.

Well I'm a Nutritarian vegan but can point to Dr Gabriel Cousens who wrote years ago that he felt an LDL of at least 159 was important to health. And yes ketosis in 2 days and my net carbs are under 50 even eating all nutrient dense vegetables, 1 cup berries and a little tofu or beans or protein powder. Maybe an egg a month. Can't stomach the dead animal meats ugh.
