I can remember as a small boy, traveling from Kansas to California, seeing these Big Boys doing their job pulling Very long trains.... What an impressive sight. I think that's what got me hooked on railway steam engines and steam engines in general. Great video and thanks for posting. Brought back some great old memories. Russ

Such an awesome engine! Shame the other loco was in the train. Kinda spoilt the nostalgia. But thank you so much for posting this. My favourite engine of all time. Maybe one day I’ll get across the pond to see it. 😃

I'd still like to see them bring it further east some how. They did it with the 3985 back in the 90's, I don't see how they wouldn't try to with 4014 since it's a bigger deal.

why do they need that diesel loco? BIG BOY should be strong enough to pull that train? or is it just for power supply?
@ferky1235 жыл бұрын
It's for radios, power to the coaches and dynamic braking.

In case of any failure/deficiency of the BigBoy; the diesel loco would support on the road ;)

Why doesn’t steam come out of the whistle when it’s pulled?
@TheSteamChannel5 жыл бұрын
The whistle is down behind the duel stack and can’t be seen in most of these shots

When it's hot out in the summer it's not unusual after the condensed Steam has been blown out when the whistle and related piping warms up for it to not be seen with Steam coming out of the whistle. Remember this is using superheated Steam which to begin with is dried Steam at a higher pressure ( 300 psi ) hence when blowing the whistle a lot it's not uncommon to see little or no Steam coming out of the whistle.

You can definitely hear that steam powered electric generator on the locomotive as it passes by at 14:12. It would have been great to see President Trump get involved with this project as part of the rebuilding of America's infrastructure and manufacturing sector! #MAGA!
