Wow, I've always been a fan, but never heard anything too in depth from him. He seems like one of the more genuine NBA players I've ever seen. It was a shame what his injury did, but when it's all said and done, he got a few shout outs on some eightball and MJG songs. I'd take consolation any day of the week.

In 93-97, those were Penny`s peak years. I wish i could have saw more with him because he was GREAT, not good! Looking at this brings up memories. I wish him the best. Hopefully, he can at least get a tryout. If Kevin Willis can with the Mavs, Penny should get a chance too! Sad because he was just getting started before he got hurted.

What's really sad is that his nightmares about a career ending injury to some degree actually came true. He was and still is one of my absolute favourite players, he clearly deserved a championship and tons of accolades he has not received in the end. His career can still be considered great, but the injuries were disastrous for the second half of his career. Plus Penny is a good, sensitive guy, which doesn't really help nowadays.

Sad what happen to the Magic after 96. Shaq leaves and people blame Penny. He proably played with pain in his knee so fans wouldn't hate him and wound up destroying his knee. I have the feeling if Shaq didn't leave the Magic would have won at least 3 Championships.

@somadeluxe3 I've often thought the same thing. A lot of times, a whole league's reputation is based off a few super-stars and how they act. If Penny and Grant Hill stayed healthy, they would have been the face of the league and would have represented the league very well. Instead, Allen Iverson/Steve Francis/Vince Carter/Stephon Marbury got a lot of attention in the early 2000's and they represented the league horribly with their terrible attitudes and off court problems.

Well, he had 4 great seasons (he got injured in 97-98), but I smell what you're grilling. I think Jordan knew too. He always mentioned Penny when it came to players who would take the torch after he retired. Penny was a very special player. It's a shame that he could never fulfill his potential.

He didn't allow his knee to fully recover during the 97 season. I think he only got around 8 weeks of rest. Penny needed need more time, he didn't even go through rehabilitation. He should have sat out the entire 97 season and allowed his knee to fully heal, and things would have been different.
