happy new year! Susie, we rarely say 中午好 in Cantonese. We usually greet in morning with '早晨'(joe sun), but we don't greet in afternoon or evening. So, 中午好 and 晚上好 aren't applicable here.

Native Cantonese speakers in Hong Kong never say 中午好。It just sounds weird. There's simply no equivalent of "good afternoon" in spoken Cantonese.

This is true. In the morning we may say 早晨. Later in the day, we will acknowledge strangers with a slight nod of the head or say 你好. 中午好，晚上好is seldom said in normal conversations in hk.
