I agree. Minerva decks are highly disappointing to me with pips. It's like her or her artist gets lazy with the minors. With each deck theme, there are more than enough characters to illustrate the minors.

Yes!!!! I highly agree and am always so disappointed!!! For example, I loved Supernatural and had to have the deck but then was so let down on what it could have been. There was so much material to work with and yet, they didn’t take advantage of it. 😢 It seems they are more interested in releasing the decks quickly versus focusing on quality. I have stopped purchasing the Minerva decks because of that reason.

@@MJ-sv1qt Exactly! I am a supernatural fan since the first episode. I bought the deck only to find out that the only good thing about it was the Guidebook and the box it came in. Super disappointing! I left a review on Amazon about how embarrassing that deck was for them to call it the "official" deck of supernatural. After seeing this, I refuse to give minerva anymore of my money. Which is sad becuase I also love the nightmare before Christmas but that deck was lacking value as well. Also, I agree with everything you said about them just releasing decks for the money rather than really creating something worth purchasing. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. 🙂

I haven't studied the system yet at all but I like marseille decks and I feel drawn to them and I feel like there's ways to make pip decks that are still interesting and spark intuition, with interesting arrangements (like in marseille coins and cups) or additional detail (like the floral detail in marseille decks) and a lot of licensed decks with pips don't do that (looking at you, Tarot Del Toro) which I think is what makes them extra disappointing.

Yes I agree with you all! Thing is, I can read with either rws or Marseille systems, but what I noticed with Minerva's decks ever since the Nightmare before Christmas deck is that the minors couldn't stay with just one system and, I don't know, it felt inconsistent. The Disney villains I'm ready to throw money at, but once again, the simple playing cards style pips mixed with RWS scenes bugs me just enough to keep me waiting to buy it....

@@Vanyro0 Yes! If it’s going to be a pips deck, it should be a pips deck. Not part RWS, part pips. I agree that the creators should stick to one system. I own pips decks as well. The creators should stick to one system for sure. I was eyeing the Disney Villains deck as well, until I saw who the creator was. Nothing against them personally, but I prefer one system when I am reading with my cards. I own both the Nightmare Before Christmas deck and The Supernatural deck. I learned my lesson with both of those purchases. No more pre-ordering until I actually see that the cards are authentic to one system.

Nuages is the French word for clouds I can’t really explain to you how to pronounce it but you can google it if you’d like :) because it’s about the realm of clouds and taking inspiration from the Marseille I guess that’s why they chose this word!

Re: kickstarter backing. So, I can't imagine the amount of work that goes behind the production of a deck, but the $50+ price point for some decks is getting steep. I realized this when lurking Madam Clara's most recent KS campaign that didn't make its goal. I love that artist's work, but why would I pay $50 on a deck that will be same price on their etsy shop? I just think creators should reconsider the incentives of their campaign. Although, I'd love to hear other perspectives on this cuz I feel mean. :(

For me kickstarters are usually worth it because even if it’ll be the same price in preorder or after the campaign has ended you usually get extra goodies from the Kickstarter. Not all kickstarters do the extra goodies though and that’s usually one of the things that’ll tip me one way or the other on if I back or not. That or I’m super passionate about the project and I want to help support it’s creation but that’s only been the case for me on one deck so far.

I love these videos. They're so fun. My favorite decks in this batch were Tempest Tarot and The Lost Tarot. French mini-lesson: nuage - meaning: cloud. Pronounced: knew ah g (soft "g" like in giraffe). The Rosebud Tarot reminded me of Textured Tarot. And yes, the Mystery of the Maven must continue!

Ok so first off your top and glasses in this video are ON POINT 🤩 and second off is it just me or is there a lot of….chaff in upcoming deck releases lately? Like there are still beautiful well-done projects with passionate creators out there but in between it just feels like there are a number of people lately making lazy decks to cash in on the cartomancy trend. I just haven’t had anything I’ve been really excited about for a while…in fact I think the last campaign I backed at a reward level was the Literary Tarot (with the exception of the Light in the Mist, which I did not back with the idea I’d ever use it as a deck but just because i love puzzle games! 😆)

I am SO excited about Light in the Mist. I've watched/read a bunch of spoiler free reviews and it sounds like it's going to be so fun! It compared it narratively to the video game, Gone Home which I played and LOVED, which really sold me :D :D But I definitely hear you on the chaff!

you did use pointillism correctly, kind of, it only really applies to COLORED DOTS, (see Sunday in the Park with George), in BW is called "dot art" but that "raccoon beaver" creature is actually the HUGE Flying Bison called Appa from the 2005 hit series and millennial internet darling animated nickelodeon show "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and i'm sure you will love it (just skip the 2010 movie that doesn't exist)

I've backed the Wisdom of the Depths tarot - I'm not 100% sure if I'll connect with the quirky vibe, but the creator is here in the UK and is getting it printed locally, so I know there will be fewer issues with shipment. Yup, definitely noticed the pre-order release dates being pushed back in the last wee while, I pre ordered When My Soul Whispered the day I noticed it had been listed on Amazon UK because of the love you have expressed for the deck and obviously ITS BEAUTIFUL, the date said Nov 1st which is a special day for me as its my grandmothers birthday who passed away a few years ago but a couple days after I pressed buy I was notified that the release date had been pushed back until Feb 2022 and I was a huffy little BRAT 😑😂 but now listening to what you said I feel guilty for it also thanks for the wish list additions 😁😂

Hey! Cheryl Richardson is an author I like so I jumped on getting those cards. The art reminded me a bit of "Believe in Your Magic" when I saw them. But it is a lot more minimal. The cardstock is about the same, the size is 3.5 inches x5.0 inches. I did a very amateur flip through on my channel if you want to look at them all. First upload ever!! (Had to google how to upload it -Ha) No comments - to flustered for sound yet. Ha But you can see the cards. Thanks showing all the options coming up! I love the Japanese Poetry one - but I have never done a kickstarter - little apprehensive about that process.

Apart from the SEAMS which I already backed ages ago (and which has luckily funded by now) the Tempest tarot looks the most attractive. Very attractive in fact. The 'shady' tarot feels like an inside thing - I don't want to scream money laundry immediately, but like maybe people owed them money or something and this is for some reason the safe way to bypass supervision? This is the only way it makes sense to me but then I work for the government X-D. Certainly very shady.

Remember that logjam in the Suez Canal this summer? That incident will continue to have rippling shortages and backlogs for the foreseeable future. Shipping companies had to divert to other (more expensive) ports, then had to get the goods to the original site(s). Most businesses operate on a just-in-time model, meaning they don't carry a large stock of goods on hand. When something (storms, fires, strikes, political upheaval, big shipping boat runs aground) disrupts the flow goods, it will create intermittent delays and shortages for a while.

Hi Lisa, The Golden Light Lenormand had a previous Kickstarter that failed to fund. I think the biggest reason was the shipping was more than the deck. It is based out of Australia. There is a video in both campaigns and images of other cards. There is an early bird right now that comes out to $37 US and $58 US with shipping. Not sure if I will back this time around as I do not really read with Lenormand. But the artwork really is beautiful and I wish the campaign well. The creator said everything is ready to go to print. I really like this series you are doing and glad I saw this episode. 🙏

A lot of creators are having to delay their releases because there is a paper shortage around the world. It has caused mas printing delays, especially in the mass market industry. Printing companies that use more sustainable practices aren't feeling it as much as those in the mass market world, but they are still effected. I'm hoping the issue gets resolved soon...before my Pooh Deck! 🤞😑🤞

I work with printing & printers as part of my job and there is a shortage of paper and significant delays in the paper supply chain. That may explain the delivery delays with decks.

In regards to the pushing back of release dates and supply shortages, it's not just in the tarot/oracle publishing industry. I work in the construction industry and we are seeing construction jobs being pushed back or cancelled due to supply shortages.

Well dang. Now I'm getting another Ciro deck. The sepia one won me over. Also, on SEAMS: I backed it on round 2 when it was unsuccessful, I've backed it this time, and am really hoping it funds, but looking at the numbers, they're at 156 backers with an average pledge of $85 USD per pledge. They need 217 backers to make their minimum. Or they need to offer current backers incentive to further increase their pledge, but it's already a big ask, $52 USD for a deck in a box with a pdf guidebook. The add-ons are decent, but those were added several days after campaign launch, and it's always easier to get people to pledge from the start than to update their pledge. They're also offering minimal pledge options - basically, 1 deck or multiple decks. I hope, if they don't make it this time, they study other KS campaigns to see what gets higher backer pledges, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll make the goal.

No risk if it doesn't fund. With Kickstarter, if the creator doesn't make their goal - no one's money is collected. That's how it's designed to work - so the creator sets a goal that will let them actually DO the project and people back to make it happen, but they're not out any money if it doesn't meet the goal.

The Two That I'm interested in is The African Goddess Rising Oracle and The Mystic Palette Tarot. I would want to see a couple of walk throughs of The Mystic Palette Tarot before purchasing it, I do not have any decks by Ciro Marchetti, not sure why, but will be waiting to watch walk throughs of that deck. The African Goddess Rising, I am excited for cause I haven't found a People of Color Deck and am loving the art of this, and am glad it's a mass market deck!!! About the Alice deck: it will be a pip deck. I had similar questions as you and scrolled down the Amazon page to "From the Publisher" and saw lots more additional preview images - including the 6 of Spears. I had to interrupt you and go order that Wild Unknown pocket. I was at Books-a-Million the other day and they had tons of Tarot decks, one of which was the Wild Unknown. But it was $40. I’ve regretted getting frugal ever since I left the store. I may still get the big version. But so excited to get the tin version. Tried to go check out the game but didn’t have luck finding the page.🤨Going to try again. Great video. Thanks.

Ooh, that's good to know about the runes! I backed Wisdom of the Depths as a) it looks fun and b) I wanted to support a creator who is getting her stuff made here in the UK instead of feeding the PRC industrial machine

@@annelyle5474 Thank you so much for supporting me! It has been really challenging trying to find printers in the UK. I found two and one of those I didn't care too much for the test deck. The cards will be printed in England, I created it in Wales and Lisa is making tarot bags for it in Scotland! I'm writing up the copy for the Sea Glass rune cards. They should be appearing on my website soon and I'll launch a Kickstarter to help fund them too. Again, they'll be UK printed :-)

I feel so sorry for the 70 people who backed the Maven Tarot. It feels like a horrible scam, and I think those people have had their money stolen. I understand that Kickstarter does not guarantee an end product, and that it can be used to help fund projects that people believe in (even if they never receive a physical product)... but in this case the money hasn't gone towards funding any sort of project, the money has gone to a dishonest thief - and that makes me so angry and sad.

Also, in terms of there being some Kickstarters not doing too well, I wonder if part of the reason is that there have been a lot of big projects over the summer that people have spent money on. I love the look of the Folk Magic Lenormand so much, but it is pricey for the amount of cards when I have spent on other projects over summer (not saying I definitely won't get it but it is tough).

Oh my gosh The Mysteries of the Maven Tarot series when 🤣 but on a serious note I am extremely disheartened and angry for those backers. I know that kickstarter deliberately states that you should be careful of the risks but even so at this point the campaign just screams scam to me and I'm so frustrated that whoever made that campaign will now walk away with 4,000 dollars without any accountability or consequences. Anywho! It was really cool to see all these decks because I didn't know about the majority of them!

Thank you Lisa, I love these hot takes and I appreciate pointing out the mess with the release dates. 'Nuages', as mentioned below, is French for clouds. Usually reminiscent of incoming bad weather but it can mean any set of clouds. The 'g' is soft and the 's' is silent :)
