I'm still not sure if the $5K minimum self-employment income is net or gross. Which line on the tax return would I look at? Business income line 13499 or net 13500?
@YouCounsel

I believe it's gross income although the guidelines do not specifically address this.

Hi You Counsel i thought you said on your other video about the eligibility on CERB about having a child that dont go to school due to covid 19 and need parent to takecare of them, i wonder why i didnt see it on the elibility on this video. please answer. Thank you 🙏

There is no change in eligibility on that point. It is covered in slide 5, bullet point 3. "you have stopped or will stop working due to reasons related to COVID-19". Staying at home to take care of children due to school/daycare closure is simply one of the examples of circumstances, which will make people eligible.

Hi, I got two jobs, one part-time(10hrs in the week) and one full time. I was laid off from full time on March 17th but after that, I continued parttime and getting more hours(security). But now I want to stop this and want to claim for CERB. Am I eligible for CERB if I stop it for 14 consecutive days? Plz reply
@YouCounsel

The stoppage of work has to be lawful. If you quit, you won't be eligible. Perhaps you can work reduced hours to earn less than $1,000 to be eligible for CERB.

If I take a LOA and the company chooses to fire me and my reasoning is that I'm going into quarantine, does that count as voluntarily quitting?

Your self-quarantining may be unlawful. Please review the lectures on Right to Refuse Work, which will provide additional information on this issue.

Hello, I applied for EI on march 24 and was awaiting a response. I had not received any payment by April 6 so I applied for CERB. When checking my account today i realized that I had received payments from both EI and CERB (same amount of $2000). Do you know what I should do? Thank you.
@YouCounsel
@YouCounsel 4 жыл бұрын
There is something about double payment to many people in the news. Check out Global News. I understand it's not a mistake, there is some explanation provided by the government. But in your case, since you had applied at two places instead of one, maybe you should connect with Service Canada.

I don't believe you will receive any money for the 11 days from CERB. You should check with Service Canada whether you can receive EI for those days.

Hello, I really appreciate your effort to provide information/awareness about CERB. I have a quick question for you. I am a full time Uber driver. At end of the last December, i was involved in a car accident and my car was written off. I had already some plans for the months of January and February . so, I hadn't bought new car as i was going to be away for 2 months. and in March all these issues started. So, I have been not working since this January. My last year's income was more than 5000$ though. So, Am I eligible for CERB ? Can I apply for Cerb benefits? Thanks in advance..

5. Am I eligible for the CERB if my hours have been reduced due to COVID-19? Within the initial 4-week period you can have some hours of work as long as you can show 14 consecutive days of no employment income. For the subsequent period, you must have no employment income.

Garri Martinez then you don’t qualify unfortunately. I heard they are working out new standards to help people such as yourself. You’ll have to wait till that roll out come into effect. Your second option is to claim the funds anyway. I do not suggest that option as you will have to pay the government back.

The eligibility begins when you stop working, not when you get paid (you may get paid much later for the period you had worked earlier). So, your eligibility is fine.

I am currently in quarantine in the Philippines( all Philipines are in quarantine lock down) trying to catch a flight back to Canada. Once back in Canada I will have at least another 14 days or more in Covid19 quarantine lockdown... but I can’t say for certain when I can evacuate the country and Manila airport opens .... so I qualify for benefits?
