Thanks for this update on the 4-stroke engine. Trust me... more frequent updates are much better, even if you have little or nothing to report. Hopefully you'll put me on your list of 15 testers... I don't even mind paying for the unit as long as you replace parts that break, or that you need to update. If you plan to make your choice of testers on the basis of how many hours they'll put on the paramotor... I'd be at the top of your list. Plus I'll be shooting 8K RAW video flying in wild, crazy, gorgeous places. Put me on your list. :-) PS: Based upon the tone of this video, and how things have been going, I'm guessing retail units won't be available for roughly another year. :-(

Why do they put this long (and heavy) exhaust pipe around the bottom of the engine, which brings the silencer looking upwards, so that the exhaust hole (and the noise) is closer to the pilot's head (and ears)? Wouldn't it be better to keep the silencer and the exhaust hole _below_ the engine?
@Deliriousintentionsprojects6 жыл бұрын
Because the bottom is the hottest part. Would you want a 300+ F pipe just inches from your head, melting your helmet and singeing your hair, or melting your netting? Also it helps keep the oil in the pipe and not on your floor when not flying.

Great project! At first glance I notice how small the crankcase is , this may be the cause of your oil leak. Causing crankcase pressure to travel at a very high rate of speed through your breather port taking oil with it. A larger crankcase may be the cure. A good test or least expensive would be plumb in a sealed canister or tank into the crankcase with a large port. Therefore increasing crankcase volume. It will most likely continue pushing out oil no mater how the pluming inside is routed.

Think about providing Scout Paramotors with the EOS 4-stroke to some Scout pilots like Tucker to use in the next Icarus Trophy Race. Obviously they'll be taking on the risk of not finishing the race if something goes wrong with the engine, but it wold be a really good test.
@mrsonor10906 жыл бұрын
Im not sure its a good idea to put it in a race. I think they want more controlled tests and not be forced into something. Btw, Icarus race... lol, what race? He was the only one in it for a time, in that class. And when they started it was only like 5 in the class. Lets start talking about a race when they can get 50-75 pilots in the same class and compete. Now its just up to luck who's motor is gonna work all the race. If it was 75 pilots, some is gonna break but more will be able to complete it and it will be up to skill and good decisions. But i guess it will grow and later on can be called a good race :) One in five to win isnt. But the motor looks and sounds really nice now. Lets hope you guys at scout can sort it out and put a nice motor out on the market. 4-stroke is what many ppl is wishing for. Nice sound and skipping that oil crap. And a nice performence at most revs. Lets not hope we have to rob a bank to be able to afford it :) Best regards

4 stoke doesn’t require a oil fuel mix correct?
@robertcoffin1665 жыл бұрын
Nope. A 4 stroke is the same as whats in your car. The engine has a reservoir of oil and will likely run off of regular gas without the 2 stroke oil added to the fuel mix. In theory the maintenance should be less and reliability should increase provided they work out the kinks. It will also have the added benefit of better fuel economy since it will get double the rotations of a 2 stroke motor per cycle.

What about a twin cylinder (two smaller pistons) to balance pressures? Many more moving parts I know, but single cylinder engines have typically been relegated to the 2 stroke market and don't have to deal with oppositional pressures, blowing oil out, like you're trying to overcome. Two pistons naturally balance each other.

I do not like how near the exhaust is to the fuel tank. I would work to make the muffler face down, not only for rain issues, but for noise levels. Could you rotate the engine 90 degrees and make a custom intake manafold so the carburetor is level? Using that way/method the fuel would be on the fuel side and not the exhaust side. You have the engine maker right next to you; perhaps they can make a block with a custom oil sump if need be. Otherwise, your paramotors look well-designed. BTW, I am also a Rhino3D user, carrying the same name on McNeel's forums.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing more updates in the future.

Almost any motor Can be mounted to any cage frame. I’m sure the motor mounts will be in different spot from the Moster 185 because it’s a new engine design. if the manufacture decides to allow you to do the swap by providing the hardware in an all in one kit then it’ll be an easy straight forward swap. But One can still easily buy parts piece by piece and do it (obviously your cage has to be same as the one scout uses with new engine) or custom make your own bracket/mounts/plate.

Jerry Pelletier below made a comment that echoed a thought I had. He mentioned enrolling Honda's help and I was thinking Ryobi. Both companies have a lot of experience with 4 stroke motor designs. I know a string-trimmer (yard care tool) isn't a paramotor engine, but I have a 4-stroke Ryobi that's been going for around 20 years now and just keeps rolling along. I'm sure Honda has similar chops. I know you don't like to outsource design... BUT... might be better to bring the decades of experience these guys have into the tent for a conversation. ;-)

It depends on what your flying ambition is. If you want to fly around your house and enjoy the sunset this is great. For climbing high above the clouds electric do not have enough power. For flying adventures, fly and camp, discover new places, camp overnight and fly further next day... Electric just do not have range and charging takes too long. Recently I got addicted to adventure flying. Icarus Trophy race, flying Midwest USA or Iceland would not be possible with electric. Last weekend I have flown an electric engine. It was a nice experience but not my cup of tea.
