I went out down town passing out food to the homeless and I saw this older black lady pushing a cart with bags and garbage. I started to go up to her to give her food but when I got close I saw she was a really pretty lady. I almost didn't offer her food because I couldn't believe someone who looks like that was homeless. Sometimes they surprise you.

if i was in their shoes alot trucking company train you for the cdl drive over the road and free training and paid 6 weeks in a hotel ? me im 56 years i wood do that today if i was homeless . i used be homeless i moved to where jobs and housing

@Heart Hexed i learn to this man i was working 9 to hours a day . he said to me work 4 to 6 hours a day for the same pay and got my cdl license for free had it sence 1987 i was 23 years old at the time now im 56 years old and still can find housing jobs ? i came to new york in 1983 19th birthday with 100 dollars and 1 suitcae later i was rob of my 100 dollars

Mark, I believe in "reduce, reuse, recycle" so wearing donated stuff doesn't bother me. And even when I was housed, I couldn't afford to buy new things. Besides, I've seen some really beautiful clothes on people and when I compliment them, I've often been told that they came from a thrift store!

I lived in a homeless shelter for seven years. Everything I wore and everything I ate was donated. It is NOT that I am ungrateful. It's just for my own self-worth,. I hate anything donated now. Homeless people do not have a choice. You and most people have a choice to wear reused clothes. It's not so much about donated clothes as it is about choice. I needed to feel like a normal person again, not someone who didn't have a choice and was given hand-me-downs.

We have a home. We don't buy brand new. Ridiculous to buy brand new! Undergarments, yes, always new but everything else we purchase from thrift stores. That being said...there have been times in my life and in my husband's life when brand new off the rack was the only way to go. After not being able to buy for yourself for so long, when you can...you flex.

I drive all over oakland and SF and where ever these people are Im glad their conditions seem to be decent. They need more areas like this to help people.
