My daughter,son in law and little granddaughters live iin SC and have been without power for days and a huge tree in their yard came inches from falling on their house due to the hurricane,they cant go anywhere as there are power lines down in their small town They are making the most of it for my 3 yr old granddaughter and 11 month old granddaughter to keep them occupied,i waa able to talk to my daughter 2 days ago but now can not reach her but i know they safe,i worry but i just have to be patient Stay safe Jacob and Jen❤

It's horrible how bad it is. My uncle's still stuck in TN only way out is by helicopter but he's okay. Everything is shut down about every road to Asheville or Boone is destroyed. Travel is forbidden to any of the Western part of the state. Hope Jen will be ok. National guard is set up at hickory airport transporting supplies in to places cut off from roads and rescuing people. You stay safe as well ❤️‍🩹🙏 to everyone impacted by the destruction of Helene ❤

You can call 511 from your cell phone or Usually you can call the Highway Patrol department they can tell you what highways are closed and can probably help you. You Jen your family are all in my thoughts and prayers. Stay safe🙏

15:06 highly expect the Army Corps of Engineers to be called out to these places soon. We have equipment in the Army where a bridge can be built across a river in just a few hours. If anything we have floating bridges that can bring over maybe 10 vehicles at a time.

Jacob, we are praying for east Tennessee and western North Carolina. I live in Nashville but go to the mountains camping and trout fishing quit a bit. Ewin is destroyed. I loved that place, Ashville in the Biltmore art district and other low lying areas are cut off from communications. My daughter is a teacher in Johnson City. We are hurting but those who have been effected are devastated. Prayers to all of you.

I 40 is closed from Statesville to the Tennessee border do to washed out parts of I 40 and land slide. They closed it in Statesville to keep people from traveling west. I 26 in Tennessee is washed out also. So thats closed. Over 400 roads are closed in Western North Carolina. So it is hard to navigate. Alot of people still trapped because of the roads.

Travel is restricted to those just driving through, local residents can go to the store if needed. From I77 to I40 is completely shut off to everyone traveling west towards Asheville, local residents only. I live outside the hickory city limits but a lot of people where without power around here but the mountains definitely got the worst of it

To date the death toll is 64. How sad that those people have to go through the grieving process as well as home damage. I live in mid-Florida on the West Coast and fortunately, all is good with us. Many homes a little north of me are heavily damaged, boats are cars and several houses and bridges are lost due to fire. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Me and my husband were trying to go to Canton to his mother’s house. Got turned around at I40 at Old Fort by Highway Patrol. Then tried to go through Marion on 221 and got turned around by the law at 226.

As a Floridian I’ll be honest I do get annoyed and upset when some people here in Florida treat hurricanes as a holiday and use it as a reason to throw a party. It’s something to be taken seriously but at the same time I do tell people to prepare accordingly and not to be hysterical and panic.

It's not just Floridians, it's any coastal community, and it's not just these days, it's being going on for ages. When hurricanes threatened us in S.E. Texas in the late 80s, most guys my age would brag about intentionally flaunting the danger and hosting hurricane parties. The expression literally was "party 'til it floats" (wordplay comparing floodwaters with the expression of a beer keg that's gone empty). I found the whole thing unamusing, but I was the in the minority.

@@karentucker2161 The reason it affected Tennessee and the Carolinas so much worse is that despite being on the actual coast, at least the flat land of the Florida beaches were able to allow rain to flow back towards the ocean. Unlike the mountains, which is always deadly with flooding rainfall, because it's not able to flow "flat" back out to sea. It's channeled sharply into narrow areas, like massive gutters, long before it gets back to ocean. Frankly, it's more deadly there. Especially when mountain people aren't used to being the ones that need to worry about a hurricane, that's "supposed to be" the ones on the coast. The coastal people have to worry about the storm surge. Everyone else far inland can be gravely affected by flooding rain. Those mountains though, very dangerous for it. Another area that's deadly with rain are flat deserts. The ground can't absorb the water like wet land, so it kills people miles away who don't even know it's coming. The Earth is just crazy.

@@mollysmith1226 you'll have a marvelous time. I'm not from NO, I live a couple hours west in Cajun country but have been there many times here are some tips: 1. The locals pronounce it New OAR-lens not New or-LEANS. 2. If a hustler tries to make a bet with you that he can tell you where you got your shoes, 'on my feet' is the proper answer. 3. Like any major city it has some dangerous areas. Stick to well lit areas and you'll be safe. If you're not staying in the French Quarter plan on taking cabs or ride shares. Tourism is big business there and if you stay in the tourist areas you'll be a-ok! 4. If you and your husband are on any kind of a diet it's going to crash and burn in NO. The food there is incredible. 5. This is going to sound weird but check out the cemeteries. Along with the architecture in the old part of town they are incredibly gothic. It's really unlike anywhere else in the USA 6. Have fun! The place is like adult Disneyland. Be warned though the drinks are sweet and strong. They will 100% sneak up on you!

Prayers!! We have a home in Gulfport, Florida, had an eight foot storm surge!! Sewer lift station stoped working! Sewage backed up, our home is a complete gut, we don't have any insurance😢 people can't realize how really bad it is, you need to be there. 70+ homes lost here!! I hear there is another storm brewing out there that's going to be worse!! Go away storm. We have age 55+ condos here, most buildings have no power, elevators are parked at the top! ATTN Western NC: providers have enabled "disaster roaming." Regardless of what service a person has, if they are in an area with any functional network, they will be able to make calls or send text messages. Go to settings. Then connections, under mobile network settings make sure roaming is enabled. Hopefully this can help. I hope this helps you and Jenny… prays for your community

Our son lives near Asheville, he and his family 18 month old and wife were just able to leave today to come stay with us. This devastation is horrible, blessings to you and Jenn Jacob hope all is well, we have been without power since Friday morning but just got it back, we live about an hour from Asheville and an hour from Charlotte. I was going to try to message you on FB but didn't see a way to. If we can help let us know. I know Sylva had some flooding and Dillsboro was worse. Completely avoid Asheville. Cherokee is a ? But probably bad. Gatlinburg seems not bad?? There are a number of areas that are just gone. Honestly the best thing to do is stay put as close as you can. I don't think Jen can get far. Cell service could still be a couple days. I would not travel at night at all. Honestly roads should be for emergency responders as much as possible but I understand wanting to be with Jen.

I would consider getting a portable power station to have at the house. It can be charged and then used to power small things. I've been able to use mine to run my router so I can still have internet when my power goes out. It's been great to be able to access and send out information. Ofcourse it depends on the situation. @@marshsundeen Yes. Possibly not helpful in this situation. But sometimes internet comes back on before electricity. Or electricity is off but internet is not affected. It's just been my experience that having a way to get power to my router has been helpful. A refurbished 400 watt one runs around $130. It has two 3 prong outlets you can use.

I totally understand because I went through Hurricane Andrew on August 24, 1992. The eye came right over us...scary stuff!!

I feel absolutely awful about what happened to western North Carolina and other towns that seemed to be wiped away and now over 100 people have died, devastating for sure. I watched Jenn's video earlier and was having some health issues, and the storm did not help. I think you should head home and be with Jenn.

I have a friend with a disability in the Asheville area haven’t been able to get through so I feel you on this I wish there was some way to help these people get food water and supplies
