Update on LRASM and HALO programs with Lockheed Martin

In this interview, Tony Desmet, Director of Hypersonics and Strike Weapons at Lockheed Martin, shares the latest developments with the LRASM (Long Range Anti-Ship Missile) and Hypersonic Air-Launched Offensive (HALO) Anti-Surface Warfare weapon programs. LRASM and HALO are next generation air-launched anti-ship missiles for the US Navy.

LRASM Program:
Lockheed Martin has recently conducted Integrated Test Event 12 for the LRASM weapon in partnership with the Navy.
LRASM’s high-end lethality and survivability was successfully demonstrated
Lockheed Martin and the US Navy continue to work on integrating LRASM aboard various platforms, including the P-8 and F-35 (B and C variants).
International interest in LRASM, with Australia being the first non-U.S. user.
HALO Program:
Lockheed Martin is one of the two competitors selected by NAVAIR for the HALO program.
The company is investing to make HALO available to the Navy as early as possible.
Schedule is critical, and Lockheed Martin aims to continue the partnership for anti-surface capability.

I'm a bit curious what the nature of the actual integration work is with the F35. Lockheed already has the JASSM integrated, so you'd think that most of the software integration work would be based on that existing code repository of that ordinance with a very similar mission profile.

Seems like since you know the platform its going on it would be integrated off the line.

That is not how military procurement works. All of the projects are like business silos/ departments with separate funding. Also congress has to fund the things, after the military askes for funding. The US Military is also going to want to integrate it into older more numerous platforms first. LRASM and F-35 only went into full production not too long ago, so no point in integrating a work in progress, which might change. The US Navy does not have that many F-35C, and the few it has are not a priority compared to the F-18, P-8, etc.
