Hey! Turtle looks like she's doing a lot better than in the previous video, it broke my heart knowing she wasn't in her proper conditions, is there an issue with her right front limb? She seems to not be using it. I hope she is okay. But she does look better than she did, well done on caring for her, you have a big heart. The world needs more people like this, then there wouldn't be so many animals in poor conditions
@tylerrugge6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! And yes, she hasn't been using it very much. The vet said that is most likely due to the lack of vitamins and her bones being weak.

That's definitely a male. Large tail and long front claws. Females have very short nails and a very small and short tail. I have 5 turtles of my own of varying species. Good job on rescuing this turtle! Many people just do not know all of the requirements to keep a turtle healthy and thriving. It's sad

@emilykaldwin23216 жыл бұрын
It’s probably because of lack of use coupled with the lack of proper vitamins. Idk about the details but the leg probably got damaged over time so she won’t be able to use it properly until it heals.
@sydneygwaltney85976 жыл бұрын
That's most likely the result of the MBD (metabolic bone disease) that he mentioned she may have. When reptiles are deficient in vitamins this sometimes happens and causes bone deformities and basically makes the bone almost spongy. I'm no expert, but that's what I'm assuming happened to poor Turtle's foot

Philomena is a beautiful name. Derived from the Greek Philomenēs (lover of strength), a name composed from the elements phelein (to love) and menos (strength). *information found from google search* while in choir I competed with a song about a Greek goddess figure named Philomena. Hope and lucky are both death sentences for any living thing. people and animals named hope all died. There was this person who tried to rescue an abused and neglected parrot and named it hope even made a fb page for the parrot but sadly it died due to its injuries. I think it had a broken neck and there was nothing any of the vets could do. all 3 vets told her to euthinize it but the woman rescuing it did not want to give up.

If you eat eggs, you can wash the shells after use, boil them, ans then out them into a food processor. You can add that to her tank and it will help with her shell to absorb more calcium. I do that for Stella, my red eared slider i rescued, and my mystery snails.

Hi Tyler! It’s so great what you are doing for turtle! Ive had a yellowbellied slider for a couple of years now. I remember when I had to entice/Teach him to eat his veggies, by putting tuna juice all over it and tricking him! As for the minnows, I always read that it was a bad choice as a feeder fish. They, as well as goldfish contain thiaminase, which breaks down and inactivates thiamin(vitamin B). So over a period of time, you’re turtle could develop a bad vitamin B deficiency. Safe feeder fish would be mosquito fish, platys, mollies, guppies, as well as swordtails. I hope this helps! Good luck with turtle

OMG. This is my favorite video. I LOVE everything you are doing for this sweet turtle. I have a red eared slider and mississippi map that I have had for 10 years and its been a constant upgrading and learning of the best care for them! My turtles LOVE Guppies. I also fed minnows and goldfish for a while before i found out those two werent the best. They love superworms and I do different veggies. They had zero interest in dubias. You can try ghost shrimp or cherry shrimp live in the tank and snails. They will help keep the tank clean and possibly be a tasty snack for your turtle if she gets curious enough to eat them! Krill treats (pellets or freezedried) are also a snack they like as well. Just keep up with the variety like you are and hopefully your turtle will find something she likes. I cant wait for more updates on her!!! Yay! 👍👏😁

I think she is a "Gullan", a name for sweetie or cutie in swedish. The name also come from the word yellow, witch is "gul" in swedish. My family as had a red eard slider for over fifteen years and she still doing well and thriving. These summer days she also bask alot in the sun outside like turtle. Her favorit snack is dryed shrimps and fish, its her form of candy and makes her splash and almost junmp up and down like crazy for it. We love her very much. Hope turtle starts to eat now!

I have a Yellow Bellied Slider and she's only 5 inches long, about a year and a half now. She eats fine but won't eat her damn veggies so I'm trying to find a veggie she will eat. My babe gets spooked by literally everything. (my turtle gets scared by minnows. Absolutely petrified and won't even attempt to chase or eat them so maybe that's why yours won't eat them?) She also loves shrimp and dried mealworms. I come up to the tank and put my face a foot away from the glass and she swims up and we just look at each other. I love her and I can't wait for our next few decades together.

Hi Tyler! I am so, so happy that you are giving beautiful turtle a better life, and I hope you can help her eat and get stronger. I think you should call her Laura, after Laura Whitehorn, who was a political prisoner and kept in solitary confinement for many years. When she was freed, she immediately started to do good for others, and helping women and anti-war efforts. Like Laura, this little turtle is going to be free, and bring knowledge about her species to the world on your channel.
