She could’ve filed an emergency motion and presented evidence of his drug use, but instead she decided to take on self-help and just withhold him from the father. Absolutely freaking ridiculous. I am 40 and this occurred in my family when I was a child. They took our very capable mother from us and gave us to our drug addicted father. This caused horrible and permanent repercussions in our lives. She eventually regained custody but we lost years of time with our mom and suffered years of abuse from our loving but unfortunately sick father who needed help. My mother’s crime according to our judge was the same . Our judge for our case was punishing our mother for trying to protect us from him and so she was told that she was brainwashing us and that she was alienating us from him. Shame on our legal system for punishing a mother and rewarding our father. I am sickened that this is continuing to happen.

Your father was not loving if he sought custody of you, as a drug addict. That is a selfish parent, choosing their own wants over the needs of their children. There can be egos involved , but he kept his child support money, and knowingly used around his children. If you honestly evaluate addicts, they are incredibly selfish. There are 12 step recovery meetings for almost every addiction available, and they cost nothing, except for the addict to admit they are an addict, and begin the process of accepting responsibility for their actions. The program works well, if the addict accepts they are helpless against their addiction(ego) and works the plan.

I completely agree with you but with saying that as a former opioid addict who has been clean for 10 years evidence has been found that marijuana is an excellent and effective way to treat opioid addiction and to allow an addict who’s actual dna and chemical balance that has been forever changed to safely cope so honestly I would not take marijuana use into account. Also I hate drug test because numerous and I mean more than 10 times I have had to pay for a blood test after receiving a false positive on numerous drugs I have never even seen much less used for example I tested positive for pcp in a half way house and I didn’t even know that stuff was still around. Another time I tested positive for methadone because I had taken a Benadryl the night before a visitation with my kids so instead of spending quality time with my children I was at the er waiting for hours to get a blood test so I would not lose all my visitation rights. Just saying there’s a lot more to this than a 5 minute news snipet

Although I still pay for and use legal substances just to feel "normal." I don't believe this is the life inteded or us, but here we are. You know we just had a case of two parents going back and forth over custody of a 6 year old boy.. Drug's were a contending factor in that case.. I worked in child mental health for 30 years. The research shows that judges are much more likely to award the child to the father of the father wants a child. Mostly the mothers are awarded custody because the mothers are the one who wanted custody and the father did not. One thing I saw over and over again is that the father who didn't want custody, would remarry and then decide he didn't want to pay child support any longer. So he would demand custody so that his new wife could take care of the kid . This way he could force his ex to pay him child support. Since women make less money than men, it's often very hard for women to do that. My own brother did this to his ex-wife. Unfortunately, my brother's new wife was against this. My brother forced his new wife to take care of his daughter from his first marriage. Needless to say it did not go well. The girl was further traumatized and returned to her drug abusing mother. The girl committed suicide. Was so frustrating because I'm very disabled and have almost no money. And I live 2000 miles away. I tried to be a support by letter and by phone, but it was not enough. I saw this story repeated over and over again in the 30 years that . I worked in child mental health. Of course the increasing income inequality in the United States has increased the level of child and spouse abuse as well as the level of drug abuse. So this problem is just getting worse.

I don't think you're getting it. The mom's test was a lie. He proved it. She is very litigious and putting everyone though this including paying to have her ex followed around. She needs to focus on avoiding causing her child trauma (which her litigious and false claims are the source of) and stop focusing on him. this is something most women never learn. My 30 year old sister died on 8/10/22. My niece spent 2.5 days with her deceased mother. Long story but ultimately, my niece was taken by the very people my sister omitted from her declaration for guardian in the event of her death. They lied to law enforcement and the court.
