This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2024 Hyundai Sonata mid-size sedan. There are only two 2024 Hyundai Sonata trims in Canada and four in the US including a hybrid. The hybrid powertrain is no longer being offered in Canada for 2024.
The base 2024 Hyundai Sonata engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. FWD and AWD options are available.
The more powerful 2024 Hyundai Sonata engine in the N-Line model is a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed wet dual clutch transmission, 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. FWD only.
In the US, the hybrid has a 2L 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain with a combined 192 horsepower.
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata looks so much better than the outgoing model with a new grille, slim headlamps, larger air intakes and redesigned rear taillights and bumper. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata gets a tire repair kit in Canada. In the US, a temporary spare tire is standard. Hybrid models in the US have a tire repair kit.
If you are interested in sportier looking Sonata go for the N-Line model with gloss black exterior accents, an N-Line grille and rear bumper, N-Line badging, dual exhaust tips and 19” wheels.
The interior of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata has also been refreshed with a floating theme at the centre console, upgraded technology including wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto on navigation and non-navigation models. The dual 12.3” screens look clean and simplistic, the steering wheel gets an update and the gear selector has been moved from the centre console to a new column shifter by the steering wheel.
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata starts at $35,256 CAD and N-Line $41,856 CAD. In the US, SEL $27,500 USD, N-Line $34,950 USD, SEL Hybrid $30,800 USD and Limited Hybrid $37,200 USD.
For Fuel Economy, (base engine) FWD 9.6L/100 km, 25 MPG city and 6.5L/100 km, 36 MPG highway. AWD 9.9L/100 km, 24 MPG city and 7.0L/100 km, 34 MPG highway.

I drove the 2024 Elantra for a couple of weeks and can tell you why I might pick it over a base Sonata. It's the lightness, the agility, plus lower fuel consumption. Nothing in its class is easier to drive. It reminded me of that every time I drove it. The fact that it has a roomy back seat is icing on the cake.

I agree, just traded in my 2021 Elantra Limited for a 2024 Sonata w/ the convenience package. I missed my baby, wished i kept it, but the collison sensor went bad twice, was under warranty, no charge.I was averaging 39-45 miles a gallon on the highway. I had less than 37,000 miles. I can't really contribute how the 24 Sonata drives, just yet. I just bought it 3 weeks ago. But I do love the front bumper redesign. I was looking at the 23 Sonata, but I disliked the honeycomb look. Love the spacious trunk storage area. Recieved the hard plastic foot floor covering for the front and back. Opened the trunk and there were the cloth carpets for front and back. Guess, I am going to return the WeatherTech items for a refund🤣. Will update any additional info in the future.

Currently leasing a ‘23 Sonata NLine and after selling my Infiniti, have been quite pleased. I *love* the aesthetics of mine equally with the refresh. I was strongly considering leasing a G80 Sport next but that refresh has my full attention after testing one while at my dealer for a maintenance interval. - Hyundai has really knocked it out of the park and admittedly I now find myself not even missing any of the luxurious features my Infiniti and Lexus models had standard.

I bought a 2024 Sonata SEL about a month ago & I love it! This is my 4th Sonata. My last 3 were very reliable, never broke & I imagine this one will be the same. The shifter is a little weird at first, but now I like it. I do have to be careful not to jump into the car too quickly because I have hit my knee on it a few times & I don't want to break it off. It is smooth, quiet & comfortable. It looks amazing & turns heads. The only complaint I have so far is all the little nooks & crannies in the grill, bumpers & wheels. They are a pain to wash & the car wash doesn't get them clean. It also drips water for days after washing it from the tail light bar, mirrors & doors. If you want it perfectly clean you have to keep a towel with you & keep drying it - I gave up. This car is one of the best cars I've ever owned & I've had a lot.

Hyundai must be doing something right as they are now the third largest automobile manufacturer in the world. However, in my opinion Hyundai try to hard on exterior styling and change design cues to often, this of course impacts re-sale value as no on wants the "old model".

2.5L naturally aspired engine and AWD and in Canada outstandingly well equipped - that is the model to get for just a vehicle that is a great do all. Now they say it is "wonderful" until you drive the N-Line and then - wow this is how it should be BUT - it has apparently not nearly the "real world" mpg. The 8-speed transmission is very well established and durable - domestically Hyundai was taking a beating from people who just do not want to understand how to drive the dual clutch and anyone who frames how to drive them for lots of enjoyment and long life was largely spoken over - so good or bad it removes one of those "moot points" people just will not give up on.

Hyundai : « Hybrid didn’t sell well » ; if people think the previous model looked odd, the hybrid was worst with that chrome strip in the front bumper and the fuel efficient wheels. As a previous model owner (1.6T model), there are very few reasons to upgrade to this new model. I feel like the new design is as polarizing as the previous design, you either love it or you hate it (I like the fish design, not so much the current light bar everywhere trend). Having said all of this, if you are in the market for a good road and city sedan, the Sonata is an excellent, well equipped and dependable car.

The ones that would saved the shrinking sedan market are AWD and hybrid. That's what Camry is going to be standard across the board. Thanks to world's most successful carmaker. They already have done it with Corolla and Prius. I only hope Honda, Subaru and Mazda will do the same. Given they have excellent compact and mid-size sedans. You know how racecars they rebuild the engines often after every race right - so how can you use those cars and expect them to be financially wise if you are in that high productivity and income part of you life where the challenge is to reduce things that hit that cashflow and risk mitigation to building a retirement plan.

The appeal for this car will be dropping the catfish face. The Sonata looks so much better in every way.

Sorry, I like the old style. All the manufacturers are doing now is trying to make their cars look like they are electric. Boring. FYI.. I got an Elantra N line. Very sporty and is almost as big as the Sonata ( my previous car)

The stick on the column ? Boo! I like the buttons much better. Putting the drive park , neutral on the stick/column takes us clear back to the 60s! Hate that.

Too bad it only comes as a sedan. A liftback or wagon version would be great.

The shifter on steering column is better. Not only because it saves space for other things. But on my Tucson, I’ve had my dog walk on the button while driving throwing it from d to n and a loss of power. Before you scold me, he was tied on a leash to the back seats but he ate through!

The reason the hybrid version didn't sell in Canada is because that thing looked atrocious. The new look might be a different story. A missed opportunity from Hyundai. I just don't see how this can compete with the Camry.

I like the exterior… a lot. The interior does little-to-nothing for me, maybe its the colour, design or abundance of plastic… I’m not sure. I have seen articles/pictures discussing a ‘shooting-brake’ N-variant… Wow! That would be about the only version (manual?) that would get me into a Hyundai dealership. At this Sonata’s price point (for a midsized 4-door sedan)… I would go for an Accord or Camry… or even the Subaru Legacy. Thanks for the video.

Odd they aren't bringing a hybrid here. The new Camry coming out is only available as a hybrid, with more power, better fuel economy and (IMO) better looks. I still think the Camry will be the one to beat (again).

Hyundai is all over the place with packaging and I don’t like it! U.S. base models have cloth as well as the N-Line and you have to go up to the Limited to get leather. Your tester shows memory seats but on the U.S. spec sheet the Limited doesn’t get it! And don’t get me started on the wheels on the Limited…. HORRIBLE!! When they showed these trims at the Launch, the Limited had much better wheels! Get it together Hyundai!

We just passed our 2013 Kia Sportage to our daughter a few months ago, and the engine blew with the crankcase bearing issue that has plagued hundreds of thousands of Kias and Hyundais. Since the warranty was 10 years, they would do nothing for us. The engine had 127,000 kms. After 15 years of Kia ownership with two Sportages, we will never buy another again.

Wow. I’m sorry that happened to you. Mine just blew at 108000. Hyundai had an engine warranty extension to 120,000 and luckily they replaced it. I’m having trouble with the engine light coming on now. It definitely puts a bad taste in your mouth and makes you look at the brand in a negative light.

I still think the 2011 to 2014 Sonatas are the best looking and the 2.4 had up to 200 HP in the Sport . You just needed to change oil frequently and check its level . Something that is not normal for your average Hyundai owner .
