The load times can be quite long the first time a particular area is loaded up. Again Arc seems to be the quickest for me. Its also very random so maybe try some different areas.

Just for the benefit of everyone here that's not mentioned in this video is that it takes a looong time for AutoOrtho to process scenery files with the latest updates. So long, in fact, that you will think it's hanging. After downloading the cache the application has to check and install each and every single one of them and if they're rather large, it will take time.

Yes there's an issue with the download servers recently. I had to restart the download a few times for it to complete. Thanks for the comment and I hope the dev can fix it soon :)

@@DrishalMAC2I didn't have issues downloading. There were 45 files totalling 30gb. So naturally it took autoortho around an hour to process and unzip it. The task manager showed large disk activity. That's how I knew it was still running.

Great video! Autoortho definitely has potential, I am using it for quite some time now. However, I randomly get some missing tiles or XP freezes for 10-30s during a flight to download new tiles. Have a 200Mbps connection, shouldn’t be the issue. Together with Simheaven, it really makes XPlane 12 much more attractive rather then the vanilla version.

Why have you got your regular ortho below your auto ortho entires in the scenery.ini? By my understanding of the ini now your own ortho that you want to keep and use in preference to autoortho will now by ignored as it is lower in the scenery ini and all you will see is auto ortho. This is important in places like Alaska where hand made ortho needs to be above auto ortho to ensure it is displayed in preference to auto ortho which may be lacking. Nice video thanks!

Yes you are correct, the only reason I still have the old ortho's was because I didn't want to delete them. I also placed the autoortho above for testing purposes. However when I showed the autoortho working I had disabled that tile so that it wouldn't interfere. I have since reverted back to just using regular ortho as autoortho was using too much of my CPU.

I would say cpu. The good thing about x-plane is you can see what framerate the cpu and gpu are running at independently so you can see what's bottlenecks your pc. My gtx 1080ti 11gb runs at about 50 fps with the zibo mod at high settings, whereas my cpu runs at about 35 to 40 fps, therefore bottlenecks my whole pc. What specs is your pc?

I have a i5-12400f. I recently upgraded to a 3070ti and 32gb ram. And xplane runs really well and runs at between 40 - 80 fps and no stuttering.

If you want to revert to default scenery you can simply not run the AutoOrtho application. If you want to uninstall delete all of the AutoOrtho related files in your X-Plane custom scenery folder. Then delete the 2 AutOrtho folders and 1 AutoOrtho file in C/Users/*YourUser* Thanks for watching and subscribing!

@@DrishalMAC2 If I don't run the AutoOrtho app before a flight, when I launch a flight I get 'error, could not locate image file for terrain' and it lists the missing .ter and .dds files and XP12 closes down. Tried flights in different regions and get the same. I then moved the yAutoOrtho_Overlays, z_autoortho and all the z_xx_xx folders out of the XP12 Custom Scenery folder and could then launch a flight with default scenery no problems so all good. Didn't have to uninstall AutoOrtho so when I want to go back to it just need to copy the moved folders back into the Custom Scenery folder. Thanks again and keep the quality videos coming!

When I try to install Europe, it downloads 1 -15 but wont but it into custom scenery (yes path is specified) So what remains in custom scenery is only the z_autoortho and the overlays. And then it automatically deletes the downloaded files so that eventually I would have to download them again...... I dont get it

Thanks so much for you excellent efforts in helping us to install and get this AO working. I finally got it working after I became more patient and waited the long time needed for it to initially work. I run the Asia pack as I am an expat Brit living retired in Thailand and have an excellent 1000Mbps internet connection. My PC is plenty good enough with an i5 10400f cpu, 32GB RAM, and a Gigabyte Auros GTX1080Ti 11GB graphics card. Now a few questions. I have the latest Global Forests V2 installed and have that added AFTER the AO lines in the ini file so is this correct ? I also have the 3D Everest scenery pack (it is stunningly good) with the Lukla airport, but if I put the Mesh files further down as you suggest it just is unworkable as if loading a flight at Lukla airport I get a terrible messy corrupted scenery and it crashes the plane and then X Plane 12. Also I notice the grass when at airports is very blurry and not nice as it was before I installed AO. And finally I no longer see the volume of moving road traffic as I did before installing AO. So can I get these back. Here is my scenery ini file so any suggestions as to changing the order?? Hiya mate, sorry for the late reply. Firstly I would move global forests up to above any mesh, orthos or overlays. I would also put your everest mesh wherever works best for you. Regarding the traffic you could try moving the z_autoortho line to where I said as I reckon that should help fix the traffic issue because that's what works for me. Also regarding the "blurry grass", do you mean the 3d grass or the ground textures. If you do mean the ground textures it's because autoortho uses zl16 ground textures without any decals. What I normally do is for more main airports I use my local ortho tiles which are higher zl and have a nice decal over them which makes it look so much better! Then for inbetween airports when just cruising i use autoortho as the quality doesnt matter when at cruise alt. I have a video of how to use local ortho and autoortho to get the best of both worlds coming out soon so subscribe and turn notifications on! @@DrishalMAC2 Thanks for the reply my friend. Well since installing Sim Heaven and the current setup the traffic is now back to as it was so that has fixed itself. The grass is not as nice as with the standard XP12 install but this only matters at airports like my local one one where the taxi path given crosses the grass (this will likely be fixed I hear with 12.06 soon). But again that is better now I have more RAM, and installed Sim Heaven too so not a big problem now. Got to play around with Global Forests V2 but if I move the Everest area mesh files down below the airports than Lukla airport is just a mess graphically and my loaded plane drops from a height and crashes. So I still have to play around with this in the ini file. Main problem for me now is still the trees and houses in the middle of some roads. I don't think this is GF2 though but will test that theory by disabling it in the ini file. AO with Sim Heaven is the bees knees mate as it is just stunning in XP12. Who now needs MSFS ?? But hey fair and good competition is always a good thing for the end users with both price and quality. That clearly is something folk should loudly tell that autocratic moron Biden when it comes to fairly and honestly competing with China instead of being a despicable thug and trying to destroy them instead.

Glad some of your issues have fixed themselves! I am looking downward to 12.06 to see what it will fix. And I completely agree, somheaven and autoortho or normal ortho is just amazing. In my opinion it looks more realistic than msfs. However I still use both sims. X-Plane will always be very special though!

At the ~8:20 mark, we can see a log entry "WARNING... Websocket transport not available. Install simple-websocket for improved performance.". I also get that message despite having installed simple-websocket from python and enabled websocket in IIS. I can't find any documentation on how to configure AutoOrtho to use websocket. Do you know how to?

I have been at this for about a full day now lol. so when I tried with Dokan the scenery just wont load. I cant even load into explain as it says it is an issue with the z_ao_na same thing if I load into z_ao_sa, etc. However when i tried with WinFSP i get the AutoOrtho to work but then becomes an issue with the .ini file as now no matter what X-Plane12 overwrites the ini file on start up and puts the z_ao_sa / a_ao_na files up top again. It does leave the yAutoOrtho_Overlays & z_autoortho where I modified those to be. I'm running AutoOrtho 0.6.0 and X-Plane12 12.06

2 options: 1) set the .ini to read only so xplane can't change it. 2) update to 0.6.1 where this issue is fixed. It essentially changes the mount points (shortcuts) to regular files when you quite AO, so that without AO running xplane still detects these files and doesn't move them. This only works if you use ctrl + c to quit however. Personally I would go for option 2 and upgrade. If you need anymore help then please join my discord discord.gg/dC3bd4fxGQ

I think it's a great tool, however for me it uses too much CPU and therefore makes XP12 unflyable. However if it does work for you then it's great as you don't have to download ortho locally to your computer, which can take a long time. In the future I would like to see better optimisation and possibly an option to pick what ZoomLevel we can stream.

So exactly what does AO do? I have utilized your videos to install both AO and Sim Heaven along with organizing my files as you have done, Thank you. The areas I see are not consistent with what is actually on the ground. There are huge power towers everywhere but not there in real life. Also there are buildings but they don't match what is there. I have tried BI maps and others can you choose from or leave it blank and it stays the same. Landscape, streets, highways etc are all there. Thanks for explaining. Can you run scenery packs with AO?

AutoOrtho streams the satellite imagery into xplane. It has nothing to do with buildings, that's all SimHeaven. As for the building they won't be 100% accurate as no simulator ever is. This is the best we can get. And yes you can change the imagery source. The best one is dependant on your area.

And yes you can run most scenery packs with AutoOrtho. Including regular Ortho4xp is you want to. Which is similar but it downloads the satellite imagery locally and is higher quality. But it takes a huge amount of hard drive space.

Thanks for the tutorial! I'm building a home cockpit of a 737 and I like having beautiful scenery. I also find it decreases my motion sickness. I guess less blur and pixelation is good? Anyway, great tutorial, worked for me. Still downloading the scenery. HD mesh never worked for me. Subbed!

This is a bit late of a comment but I’m in the middle of building my pc and would like a realistic sim for an a330, would autoortho have any disadvantages, for example, a glitchy or crash game?

It does use up a fair bit of cpu power so nay degrade performance depending on your cou. It also sometimes causes stutters for like 10 seconds but only when loading a new tile.

After I install the base files, nothing shows up in my custom scenery folder, I've double checked the directory address. I'm using steam & on the beta build, not sure if those can affect the install, anyone know what's up?

Have you run autoortho yet with xplane. I recommend running autoortho and then xplane to the main menu. Then they should show up in the scenery packs.ini file. Also check you have set your Custom scenery correctly. Also which version of AutoOrtho are you using?

The base files wont show up in your custom scenery folder as a file, they should show up as mount points (similar to shortcuts) when AutoOrtho is running. have you installed dokan? Also it might be easier to continue this in my discord server as its much easier to help there.

The mesh could mark your terrain like mountains look a lot better, however might also degrade performance. In terms of the ortho, I tend to make it myself using ortho4xp. I will be releasing a tutorial on test very soon!

Sir, Thanks for your great help. Auto ortho pre release version 0.5.0 is working fine but it doesn't downloding the contents continuously. When I click on install, after 2 minutes the downloding will stop and never run again. In every next try it is occurring. My internet connection speed is good but not too good a medium connection speed. Even a single file is not fully downloaded tiil now. Sir, please offer me your valuable suggestions and ideas to fix this problem.

try redownloading autoortho, or downloading it onto your main windows drive. then you can move it across once its installed

@@DrishalMAC2 Sir, first of all thanks for your timely and friendly response. I tried your idea also I tried to redownload it in another drive but the result was the same as before. After two or three minutes it automatically stops and never starts again and then when I close it and again starts the install then it will jump over to download the next zip file without completing the previous one and this will also stops after a few minutes. May be because of lack of high speed internet connection. Anyway, leave it Sir. If you don't mind I want to share my PC specs with you because sometimes in a low to medium settings the game will crash on any plane and airport on starting the game. Sometimes it will run on a small training planes and small airports and sometime this will also crash. With Boeing planes and big airports it will always crash either at the starting or within few minutes after start (I always keep the settings either low or slightly medium) I doubt that my PC specs are not sufficient to run the xplane 12. My PC specs are - 1. Intel core i3 10100f cpu 2. 16 gb ram. 3. Asus prime h410m-e motherboard 4. Inno 3d GTX 1050 ti 4 gb graphic card. Sir, please clear to me that according to the given specs, the xplane 12 will run or not without crash even in low or may be in slightly medium settings or I must have to go for a slightly higher specs changes with my pc. I am expecting your true and honest suggestion.

I don't think those pc specs are good enough for xp12. I believe this is what causes the crashes. I'de recommend upgrading your xpu to a 12th gen i5 or above and atleast a 1080ti or any 20, 30 or 40 series graphics card

I'm having trouble loading textures. The effect is that under the plane it only starts to sharpen them. I have 150mb internet. Plus, it takes a long time to load flight, about 10 min. Ortho4XP loaded faster.

Autoortho is lower quality than ortho4xp generally and the closer to the plane the bigger the quality which is why some isn't as sharp further away from the aircraft. The longer loading time is also normal for autoortho. Personally I have gone back to just using regular ortho. @@DrishalMAC2 I only fly IFR. I care about the views and the clouds. I switched to msfs2020 for this reason. But when I saw the big progress in xp12 when it comes to clouds and I found out about autoortho, I was glad that I would be able to fly cold again. I have ortho4xp only Europe and ZL16 takes me almost 2.7TB on disk. I don't have a disk to have all the continents made in ortho4xp. And I include all continents.

Yep ortho4xp takes up a lot of space. You could try posting in the autoortho github to see how to increase the quality as I believe their is a way by modifying so files or text files. As long as your Internet can keep up

Or you can do what I used to do which is use high zl regular ortho for airports, then autoortho for when cruising because you won't notice the quality different.

Depends on the area and your pc, for me it was between 25 and 45 minutes for loading a new area. However loading for a second time is fairly normal.

When you load into X-Plane with AutoOrtho running you will see the ortho satellite imagery. If you just see default xplane ground textures then it's not working

Good day Sir, I don't know but If you have best pc hardware knowledge then please suggest me that is AMD Radeon rx 580 8gb 256 bit gddr5 graphic card is fine for running xplane 12 in medium settings without any low memory crash ? If yes then will it balance with i3 10100f cpu. If not then suggest me a reliable cpu for the above mentioned graphic card.

I don't think that graphics card will be powerful enough. And I would definitely upgrade the cpu to atleast an i5 12400. Minimum graphics card I would go for would be a rtx 3060 12gb

I'm not sure if it will work, but you could copy the files it downloads into a different drive then make shortcuts to them in the custom scenery folder. I might make a video on it soon so stay tuned!

Only thing I can recommend is to uninstall it and reinstall it. other than that I would refer to the GitHub page and open a discussion. the devs should be able to help. I would also recommend disabling any local ortho files just in case they are causing a conflict. Hope this helps.

Russia has really nasty tiles. Is it downloaded from Bing? Is it possible to change the data source from which to download tiles? During the flight I had stuttering that it stopped even for 20 seconds.

Sir, I am from India. When I clicked on autoortho. exe after installing dokan on C drive, it popped up the auto ortho screen but with no set up, run and scenary menu displayed. The column of custom scenary is also seemed empty. I purchased xplane 12 from steam and is installed on E drive of my PC. I think it can't able to find dir of custom scenary from xplane 12 steam located in E drive. I have windows 10 64 bit operating system with a good gaming configuration. Please fix my problem so I can also enjoy auto ortho like you.

If X-Plane is installed on your E drive, then I recommend putting AutoOrtho on your E drive aswell. If this doesn't work try redownloading autoortho. Autoortho can take a long time to load. Make sure you leave it for a good amount of time to ensure it fully loads. After the first time is should be ok

That's the issue with autoortho sometimes. Long loading times and is low quality in some areas. That's why I use regular ortho4xp for airports and autoortho for when I'm cruising at high altitude

In which aircraft and at what airport? Simheaven will lower the frame rate slightly. I had an issue with autoortho where it uses to much cpu and therefore kills my framerate and i therefore have stopped using it. Use task manager to check how much cpu autoortho is using.

I'de suggest testing at an airport like Heathrow (EGLL) or Los Angeles (KLAX).

First uninstall the autororho file that you downloaded, next download anything you installed into your Custom scenery folder of xplane. Next go to your user folder in windows and delete the .autoortho file. Now you should be able to reinstall everything. the cache file could not be moved anywhere except the c drive. i think even you didnt know how to move the location of the file that's why you did not cover that part. Who would want to ruin the space in C drive by downloading all the files there anyway?

Do you mean AutoOrtho? If so just delete all of the AutoOrho files from the custom scenery folder. You can then run X-Plane as normal. You can also then delete the main AutoOrtho file which contains thr AutoOrtho.exe
