I can’t get enough of these videos. I think a lot of people will start catching thing onto the portal train. And your content will keep growing.

You absolutely can stack plugs in big sidewall holes. I used over 15 plugs on a backhoe rear tire sidewall to get it out of the dirt and back to the trailer. Love these portals! Some day 👍🏼

Take a Gladiator, chop off the rear and turn it into a two door. Next up is toss the pickup bed. Now turn it into an off road recovery wrecker and be ready for the 2025 Matt’s Off-Road Heavy Wrecker Games. For bonus points put in a steering rear axel with Portals. Win the category of “Narrowest Off-Road Wrecker” or “Most Nimble Off-Road Wrecker” for the super tight trails. Murphys Diesel’s “Hellboy” looks fun but it’s too big for a lot of trails. Heavy D Sparks claims he is going to build a 6x6 out of a Hummer but once again way to big for a lot of trails. Let the games begin.

Is the unit bearing changing? I'd love to see an 'autozone' off the shelf version for easy replacement down the road or in the middle of nowhere. Have you looked at the 09 Dodge 2500 4x4 front unit bearing as a possible option? It was a crossover year, but it has a similar/same knuckle bolt pattern to the 99-04 ford part, but is 8 on 6.5 wheel pattern native AND has an ABS sensor that should be directly compatible with the Jeep. The 09 version is also 35 spline vs the earlier 33 spline.....but doesn't have the larger bolt pattern when they went to the 1555 size knuckle.

Do you guys make portal systems for GMC trucks? I have a 2024 GMC 2500 AEV edition and would love to get just a little more clearance on her while running some 40's.

Not yet but I’ve had several talks with AEV. It will happen in time

Can't get enough of this stuff! Any thoughts on yankum soft fairlead vs factor 55 hook?
@mattbrew11 Жыл бұрын
Yankum is garbage
@74weld Жыл бұрын
Factory 55 guys are solid, honest, build quality quality, and test more than anyone else. When it comes to this stuff I stick with the brand I trust, price comes second. I don’t know much about the competitors to factor55. I just know the guys there are constantly testing and innovating.

Hi there. Very cool product. Congrats. I have 3 questions: - how do portals behave at higher speeds through whoops compared to a non portal jeep with a good suspension? Uptravel, higher center of gravity, unsprung weight… - can you elaborate on the compatibility of narrower axles vs stock height and possible wheels and tire combo on different jeeps? TJ/LJ, JK, JL/JT? I thinks this was key in your video. - can you compare 74Weld portals to other brands? Werewolf, TRE, …
@74weld Жыл бұрын
If you like high speed whoops, I don’t think a Jeep is the best vehicle period. My bronco is way better. The down side to a portal will always be lack of up travel…want more clearance, you are sacrificing uptravel to get it. It’s why I have a video we shot and will release soon on why you don’t want a portal. As for wheels and tires. I always run positive offset wheels and I’m a simple tire guy. I don’t buy what’s new, I buy what’s proven. BFG or Nitto and I personally would run a BFG if I were racing and a Nitto if I was going to do recreational wheeling. The US vs others is a tough subject for me. Here is what I will say. Do your own homework. I can’t speak to others and if I did I’d possibly be mistaken so I try not to go there. What I will say is we develop in racing and move what we know works into our bolt on platforms, we then test and validate before we release. Our products are made in the USA, no bullshit nickle and dime options, and come with everything you need. Example, every kit comes with larger rotors standard because we know you are running larger tires and you need larger brakes. We price them at 20K, not 19,995 because I don’t like that crap so I don’t do it. We don’t force you to run one off custom wheels because our portals are not 5” wide. I have seen other companies say their portals that bolt to a factory upright are the same width as ours. This is total bullshit. So I one again tell everyone to do proper homework. Don’t just talk with the sales guy. I think you will find out we make the highest quality best priced product but that’s my biased opinion. Do your homework and come to your own conclusions

What do you think of the kspecs? Are they noticeably more grippy on the rocks?
@74weld Жыл бұрын
Way different on rocks. They are a lot stickier than the regular compound. I’m a big fan, but the reason I did the PSC is because of the K specs. I couldn’t steer on slick rock because I had too much traction and not enough steering power. No longer an issue with the PSC upgrade

Few questions does one portal kit fit all axles stock, dynaytac, teraflex etc do you need to regear if running 35 or 37 tyres
@48Troll8 ай бұрын
How much extra width is this setup than it would be without the Portals on standard width axles ❓
@74weld8 ай бұрын
Depends on the wheel and tire package you run. We add 3.75” a side on the JL. Check out the video we did with the blue 392 for some additional measurements

Will your portal kits work with “sport” width axles. You said your jeep is narrower im assuming thats how you accomplished this?
@74weld Жыл бұрын
The sport uses a smaller bearing cup on the rear which we have decided not to support on the JL platform. The JT end cups are all the same across housings so we are compatible

@74weld Жыл бұрын
I think metalcloak makes some good joints. I don’t have much experience with their skids. Funny side fact, that company was purchased years ago and used to be called Rev111. I actually started that company (originally called Rev1 Engjneering) with a friend in the early 2000’s.

!!! W A I T !!! - For your Off-Road Wrecker Build with Portal axles I’ve found your body for the build. Search - - - Jeep FC150 STL9342 - - - You might want to use a few ideas from Matt’s wrecker like a removable body for engine service, replace the winches with all new 12k electric winches, etc. but the FC-150 Off-Road Wrecker build by 74Weld would be a fun project for us to watch and a very cool build for SEMA 2024 this fall.

Search KZbin for - - - 62 Jeep FC 170 (Forward Control) w/ Rick Pewe at the 20230 SEMA Show - - - for even more ideas. Also an idea is to hinge the front of the cab so it tilts for engine access.
