Yeah pigs are really easy to get attached to. We had four. Our big male was a red wattle and he was over 3 feet tall and about about 8 or 9 ft long. He was HUGE. But such a big baby. Go into the area he was at and call him and he would come running up. Scratch the side of his belly and he would flop to the ground for belly rubs.

I love the lavender chickens can't remember if I've seen the lilacs... Your plans for the future are exciting. If you do decide to get the, would you be feeding with square bales of hay or round bales because you know if you do the round bales you're going to need a tractor to move them around. But you know if you do decide to rent that house out, that pool would be a liability that you would either have to fix or fill in... Just throwing a few things out to think about...✌️and Blessings

I just recently learned they have chickens called death layers, and they lay eggs till they die. Go figure, never heard of them before 😂 it's a good idea to feed them oyster shells ground up, it aids in digestion in their gizzards to crush their food.

Get someone else to kill the chickens? Well, you don't shoot chickens. Shot in the meat? You put them upside down in a metal cone and slit their throat or cut off their head and let the chicken bleed out into a bucket. Then you need to pluck and evicerate those chickens. And finally you shrink wrap them to freeze them. So, you need a freezer too that can hold a few chickens. Most folks kill a bunch at once and process them for the freezer. So, it helps to get a chicken plucked and a boiler. Because you must scald them You might want to watch some You Tube videos or some other videos for how to do it. As for cows, get a lot of fencing and figure out how to corral them and confine them for vaccinations and worming. Just containing cows in a pasture isn't usually a good plan. The first time you need a vet you have to be able to catch and contain a cow, bull, steer or calf. Just putting cows in a pasture is a fly factory around your house. But then dog poop, so you know all about flys. Except the flys are SOOO bothersome near your house and they drive cows crazy if you don't control them. Also, I don't know about dexter cows as milkers. Aren't they mostly for meat? Do you have enough land to grass feed a cow or two? If not, someone (you) are going to be watering and feeding cattle yourself and hay is heavy. Small tractor with forks to lift bales. And the bales cannot be left on the ground to rot or get wet. I know you lived on a farm but think these logistical things out first. Like you have a bunch of chickens that are laying well now but killing and freezing and farm chores and dogs? You are going to be one tired lady! And think about vacations and needing a farm sitter. Think and go slowly, Rachel. Get some help or you will get awfully pushed for time as a single woman.

I watch all your videos either chickens or dogs. But I do enjoy your chicken videos. I would go with the Highland Coo’s. They’re a smaller breed of cow also. And as far as pigs Kunekune’s are a fantastic breed and don’t usually try to run away like other breeds. Btw Kunekune means “fat and round” 😂

Hi Rachel. You should Check out Greenfire Farms, located in Florida. They have a cool website. They’re technically not a hatchery and they specialize in rare chicken breeds from all around the globe. They have some beautiful birds. They’re pricier than a hatchery but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. They sell day old chicks and hatching eggs. They have the Indio Gigantes that you mentioned in this video. They also have Liege fighters (they’re called fighters but the males are not anymore inclined to fight than any other roosters.) Anyway both the Indio Gigante and the Liege fighters are HUGE chickens. I plan to buy both breeds and cross them into some jersey giants to try to create the most gigantic chicken ever. 😂 anyway, just thought you’d find this useful. Take care.
