I use diatomaceous earth to kill bugs on and around my chickens. I make a dust bath for them with it. I also put it on their bedding every time I change it. I also mix it into their feed (food grade only).

I definitely second DE. Putting it in their bedding or having a kiddie pool DE and bedding dust bath works too. I swear by DE and I use it for my dogs and carpets to kill any bugs.

Diatomaceous earth is good for killing bugs including mites. Definitely suggest looking into that to help get rid of mites from the environment and keep them away.

Here in uk you can’t buy a lot of things without prescription from a vet! We do have a lot of backyard chicken keepers and I have used products for pigeons on my hens but scaled up for weight comparison per kg body weight! Just thought I’d mention as I have lost a couple of birds and I did have coccidiosis and this saved my ladies just in time. I also used a pigeon spot on for mites but there is a withdrawal period for edible eggs but if your breeding it should be fine x

Spread the dust in their stall to get the mites. You can just put a pile in they will use it . but dust them good to begin with

Being that you already had coccidia in your coop area the best thing you can do for preventative in future chicks is to vaccinate them for it on the day they hatch. This is the best preventative as the medicated feed is just a thiamine blocker. HTH ❤

Love the news birds. 💜 Everytime you give your chicks herbs, gras, seashell limestone and the possibilty to bath in sands (anti mites) it should improve their health. As always you will figure out the set up that your birds need and that is best for your place. 🤗🥰

Thats good that your chickens are doing better. You can also put a dust bath in there for them to roll in for mites. I had mites and made my own concoction because everything else is super expensive or did not work. I made 3 gallons of water, i put a whole garlic clove in there with dawn dishwashing liquid, diatemaceous earth (does not work when its wet, only when it dries), esseintial oils that mites hate and mixed that all together. Also they dustbath. Sprayed every crack and cranny and chickens. My mites are gone. Your chickens that have had coccidia, after the treatment is done give them vitamins. They will be a carrier for life. Any new chicks put where they were will most likely catch it. Its harder on the young ones. Hope this helps. God bless.

The mites can infest your dogs also. Had a friend who raised beagle pups ina recently empty chicken pen and the pups were infested. Hartz makes a mite shampoo for dogs. At least the did 25 years ago.

I have a flock of Mille Fleur Cochin bantam and lavender Cochin bantam’s. My daughter talked me into getting Silkie’s the eggs will be here tomorrow lol. I’m definitely keeping the lines true in my birds. I don’t know what you got for the pests but look into Elector PSP. It’s a one time application for the coops and to dip the birds in, and it keeps on killing the bugs and any eggs and it doesn’t effect the chickens eggs you can keep eating them.

Silkie's looks so fine. 🙂 My best friend only buys silkie birds from the farmer's market, because she says they are the best for chicken soup and she has such a good connection to the farmer, where she buys from. Do you harvest your birds or do you use the eggs exclusively?

@@KimChi-iy7jd I harvested the mean rooster and fed him to my dog he was only 2 pounds. Yes the silkies are a very unique bird the bones, meat and organs are all black.

@@wildpuffalumps Yes. My friend said at first it was weird to eat the greish/black meat, but the family is absolutely fascinated by the best chicken soup ever. I was told I may taste it soon. I just know, that indeed some chicken breeds taste better than others, they have managed to breed differences into these birds. We have a special breed for oil baked chicken in Austria. And I kid you not it tasted better than ANY other chicken I have EVER had in my life prepared like this. 😳😆😋 An eye opening experience.

You are probably going to have problems,either ongoing or prriodic, unless you add clean bedding over the old very frequently to keep the floor clean. You absolutely must have chicken waterers with clean water daily. If they poop in their water one single sick chicken will infect everyone through poopy water. I 13:19 am surprised that you haven't had problems before. You can't eliminate coccidia in some coops but you may need to treat repeatedly, keep them clean and be sure to feed minerals and grit. You know you must keep parrot cages clean with fresh water. The same holds true for chickens. And, yes, chickens love veggies. They like grass, bugs, scraps like wilted, not rotten, salad greens, squishy fruit and they need calcium for strong shells. I don't mean to harp on this. I won't repeat the suggestion again because I don't want to be a pest or negative. I'm really trying to help you do something very basic to animal husbandry.

It is great you can talk to someone in the chicken community who isn’t toxic. If you do kill that fox make sure not to pick a cheap taxidermist you’ll definitely get what you pay for. It is also normal for taxidermy to take a long time to get back to the customer.
