There is a rule of thumb if I remember correctly, 16% protein is mandatory for grown up hens to produce eggs, that can hatch successfully. Horsefly larvae, amaranth, quinoa, oats, millet, yeast, lucerne, peas are classic protein sources. My poultry neighbor sometimes gave them curd cheese/farmer's cheese. She also gave a bit apple vinegar in their water. Helps their immune system. Hope that helps. I love the birdies. I love your bird videos. 💜😊

Hidden height farms uses a large bottomless cage on wheels for his hatchlings. Chickens, ducks and turkeys. He changes the location as needed. Who knows, could help with tick issues. He also has 2 emu s and geese to help with predators. Just a thought.

Sometimes the "naked" backs are from an overly excited rooster. We had one rooster that was rough with our hens and they looked like that. Once we replaced him our hens backs healed up. Edit: Have you seen the washable rug brand? You can toss them in the washing machine!! Ruggable is the brand a friend of mine has and she loves it.

I completely agree with you on the strawberries. I started with about six teeny tiny plants two years ago and now have too many to count with hundreds of strawberries ripening. They're so good!! Hope you have as much success with them as I've had. And be careful not to leave them out in the sun once they're ripe, accidentally did that last year and they all went bad. The chickens are all looking great, happy to hear they're doing better!

The blue on the partridge Brahma won’t come out until they’re feathers start to grow, their down is very light and they have the chipmunk stripes. It looks like you have a few of the blue ones. HTH ❤ Also definitely look into a Tower Garden home. I got one with the lights it’s an indoor Aeroponic system and it’s absolutely amazing 🤩!!!

Superfunny and very relatable story about the strawberry. 🍓🥰 Beware! 😂 The whole circumstances how to grow strawberries, well are a whole other chapter... 😂😂😂 I did research for my best friend on that 3 years ago... I think the most important part is which sort of strawberry bushes you choose. My darling friend is very happy now, she produces strawberries that she loves almost all year round, but she had to put sheep wool into her ground, just saying... 😄💜 I think you could grow blueberry bushes under your pine trees, because the pine needles make your earth a bit acidic. 😊 The blue bush you love so much is Hortensie. I love them, too. Should thrieve under the pine trees. 🙏🏼💜

@@Jamesriverpockets Look out for "Mara de Bois". It is a famous strawberry variety. She is used for desserts. I think only "Josee" tastes as fine as "Mara de Bois", other than that there is no variety as lovely as these, concerning taste in my opinion. The berries of "Mara de Bois" have medium volume. The plant is "everyielding" (= I hope you know what I mean I do not find the right word 🤭). They start flowering in spring and go on until the first frost. They are self-pollinating. As all the capricious strawbery plants they usually ask for correct fertilization and a real good substrate. My friend has a mini greenhouse and thus can have a longer period of harvest. She also does it for her grandchild, who is absolutely addicted to harvesting the strawberries from the bushes. And concerning the blueberries. I just bought my mom one bush years ago, put a couple of slithely acidic earth around it and this bush is putting out blueberries like crazy, my mom even bought two more. They are simple and it is so rewarding to go outside in the morning pick two handfuls of blueberries, which are excactly right for two person muesli breakfast, we love it! Potential. 😊 I hope you have much fun with your garden! 💜 I love that you slowly are puttering your way into designing your garden. It will look very well, you have such good taste, I like it very much your eye for beauty. 🫐🍓

Up here mice eat the strawberrys when we grow them close to the ground, becky from another channel gets this flower tower thing and she did strawberries in it last year before she had more raised beds. Pretty awesome. It was called a green stalk, kind of pricey but big discount for the month of may.

So many chicks! They're still cool looking all of them. Also your whole yard looks amazing the green and all the growing things look like they're doing so well. Nice job I know it does take all of the energy and all of the time. I'm like you, under estimating the time and energy needed. I'm with you on the strawberries there is nothing like a well grown strawberry. And nothing quite so disappointing as the ones in the store when they are tasting like styrofoam. Tomatoes are the same

Yes it's not something that I came to easily but over time I've had to euthanize suffering chickens and I've lost my hesitation about these kinds of things living on a farm will definitely do that to you.

When you get your permit, will you be able to go back to whelping your own litter? Is it far less stressful for you to have a whelping service? I was just wondering. I mean, NO DISRESPECT! I hope everyone has a great rest of your week!

25 meat birds is a good amount, i recommend butchering half at 6 to 8 weeks. If you grow out the rest to 3 to 4 months, there going to be huge!!!!!! Which is great, the meat is still tender at that size but the issue is heat for these guys!! Once they get to a certain size heart attacks and heat stroke can be an issue. Kep an eye on their waddle colors, if it gets a deep red there stressed, butcher before it dies. Also, there skin is to thin for the feather tumbler thing, if your over the plucking process after a handful, just skin them. Fried skin is of course the best but youll see.
