My friend once told me she almost died as a baby from “severe colic” and that when she was 8 months old the doctors found out her mother had never produced breast milk so she was severely underweight… 8months old having never had any food ever… I could write a book about the things she’s told me.

There was a girl at school who was a compulsive liar- she just felt the need to lie about everything, no matter how big or small. According to her, her father had died about 5 times on separate occasions in weird ways (fell of a roof, got shot by a gang, car crash etc), she'd been pregnant multiple times apparently, had a £2 coin lodged in her heart from when she swallowed it as a 5 year old child (I still laugh hard about this one- especially since £2 coins weren't yet a thing when were 5 years old, nevermind the logistics of it getting to the heart) and so, so many other pointless lies

About the premature birth one upper: in the sixties people sometimes claimed premature births to hide premarital intercourse. Baby born 8 months after the wedding will be a premature birth when you talk to family but in reality it's a 9 month gestation. People would say stuff like "the first baby can be born at any time, the later babies are always 9 months"

Oh, I got one! I went to school with a girl who was a compulsive liar. She had incurable diseases a handful of time throughout the few years that she always miraculously healed from. She wore a bunch of obviously plastic costume jewelry that she claimed were real family heirlooms because she was a distant relative of Queen Elizabeth II. They were still very close with the royal family, but they had to keep it a secret since she was American. She said she was actually skinny, beautiful, and had long blonde hair and blue eyes. She wore a short wig, a fat suit, brown contacts, and facial prosthetics to make her look ugly. She did this because her family was extremely wealthy, and she had to keep her amazing looks a secret so that guys wouldn't try to date her based on money and good looks. My favorite one was this whole story arc that spanned almost all of sophomore year. She claimed that she had met a member of a different royal family and they they were going to get married. She flew to England every weekend to spend time with him. She wore a HUGE fake diamond ring to school every day as her engagement ring. She spent months planning her wedding during school. It was going to be at his family's palace. She even passed out invitations to people and told them that all expenses would be paid. A week before the "wedding," she came to school sobbing, saying that her fiancé died during a horse riding accident. Oh my God, tthere were SO many. Those are just the tip of the iceberg. I could not understand how nobody had gotten this girl mental help.

There's nothing funny or quirky about their lying, and they've never told any lies that were particularly elaborate or "out there", just self-deluded and occasional gasslighting, and both have histories of criminality. My aunt has basically lied so much for so long that I honestly believe she's lost the ability to tell the difference between reality and stuff she just pulls out of her butt.

My oncologist. He said my stage 2 stomach cancer was terminal and I had maybe a month left at most. He wanted to stop treatment and let me enjoy the time I had left. I told him over my dead body. Treatment continues until I take my last breath. If I’m to die, I’m going down swinging. That’s when my oncologist smiled and said he’ll fight with me to the end. We decided to go all out and basically carpet bomb my body with chemo. Three months later, most of my stomach and a bit of my intestines plus the entirety of the tumor was removed. I’m still here and cancer free today. Like hell was I going down due to a clump of cells that forgot how to be cells. I had a life to live thank you very much.

I worked with this woman at 711, Susan, she made several outrageous claims the only 2 I can really remember were: 1) she was a sniper in the secret service, on president Obama's detail. Apparently she had a scope on him and almost pulled the trigger multiple times and was eventually medically discharged due to loosing vision in 1 eye. 2) had a form of Cancer so bad that she had to put in immediate leave for medical treatments and never heard back from her. I later went into another 711 in the next city and saw her working there seemingly cancer/chemo free.

It's cool to see someone else who holds affection for their preposterous pal. I could never bring myself to dislike the boy who lived next door when I was an older teen, either. He was about 6 years younger than me. I enjoyed asking him for details about his crazy stories, except for the time that he changed the story of his dog's sudden death to something that was disturbingly plausible, until I knocked on the front door and asked one of his sisters to show me the dog to set my mind at ease. The wackiest lie I remember (other than the dog story) was how his dad's "senior prank" was setting a number of bulls (in the double digits) loose inside his high school. K. I thought he was funny and pretty harmless, but I do/always did hope he got help, because by now he's old enough for his stories to get him into serious law trouble.

My brother is one of the biggest liars I have ever seen or heard of. He was a Combat Engineer from 1997-1999 during peace time. He gets credit for that because it’s 100% facts. He rides a motorcycle now and has the cliche vest with all the patches. His unit and base patches, but the worst is that he wears a “Desert Shield/Desert Storm” patch. Desert Storm was back in 1991…my brother was 15 years old yet he swears he was there. Tells everyone he was there. He claims PTSD from combat he was never in. I served and I was deployed, I saw real combat (the real deal). I am so sick of people buying his horse crap. I have been told to lay off him because “he served his country and laid his life on the line, he killed for this country. He is a hero” when I give them the facts they call me jealous…let THAT sink in. He never left Ft Benning, but I did and they say I’m jealous of a liar. I swear someone slipped me crazy pills everytime I hear this crap.

I knew a girl in high school who apparently was secretly engaged to her best friend’s boyfriend and they were going to get married after graduation. She also was “pregnant” by this guy constantly. One day she was complaining to me about her period, the next week she rubbed her stomach and said, “I think it’s almost time to have my baby.” Once when she “lost” the “baby” and would have been pretty far along, I took a risk and played into it. I told her how sorry I was and how traumatic it must have been to deliver a stillborn baby and have a death certificate, funeral, etc (my mother lost 5 pregnancies and one of them was a stillbirth). She shut right up and never mentioned it again - at least not to me. 😅

I've encounted a few insecure types that don't even have the brass to lie about themselves 1-uping everything I said. It was always their (anon) "friend" who had an astonishing array of talents, but for some reason chose to stay in the dead end small town I used to live in. A personal favourite of mine was claiming that "his friend" had both the expertise and black market contacts to remove organs from corpses and sell them. This came up in a conversation about altrustic organ donations after death. The speaker in question was most opposed, and claimed that "his friend" would extract his organs and sell them, giving the money to the deceased's girlfriend. Of course, there was also the classic understanding that "his friend" (same one as the unorthdox mortician mentioned above) was in the Russian mafia, and frequently smuggled ex-soviet military hardware into Small Town, Australia. The speaker was in his early 30s.

She said she was fluent in Japanese from watching anime, and fluent in German because she got bored one day and studied a library book. She said she could draw four hyper realistic graphite portraits of different subjects as the same time, holding pencils in both hands and with her toes. My mother had a co-worker who told lies all the time. It started this woman's first day of work. She said her name was Lynn Fraley, and someone asked, "Oh, are you related to Fraley & Smith?" That was a local firm, and she said, "Yes, that's my father." Instantly, my mother knew it was a lie because the firm's actual name was Farley & Smith. Later on, she started going by Carolyn instead of Lynn, and my mother asked her what her real name was. Both, she said. Carolyn was her first name and Lynn was her middle name. Now, most people choose a middle name for their children that is quite different from their first name. It is conceivable that someone named their daughter Carolyn Lynn, just as it is conceivable that someone could name their son Jonathan John. But it's pretty strange. And if the person telling you this has been telling lies every day, you aren't inclined to believe it. The final straw was a Monday when she announced that she had gotten married over the weekend. This was pretty surprising because she hadn't said anything ahead of time. Amid congratulations, someone pointed out that she should go to Accounting and tell them so her tax status could be changed. She quit shortly after that day. I, too, had a co-worker who was always telling lies. He was a computer programmer, and in fact was so much into computers that he said he had had a couple articles published in popular computer magazines. Later on, another co-worker told me that he had looked for these articles and had never found them. One day I happened to mention modal logic. He instantly said he had once taken a class in it. He had not gone beyond community college, and this is the sort of thing that would be covered in a graduate seminar, but although I challenged him on this, he persisted. One day I mentioned to some other co-workers that I didn't believe more than one story in ten of the things he was saying, and I was accused of being gullible.

This small town near where I live had a beauty queen who was diagnosed with cancer. It made news all over the state, there were go fund mes set up all over social media, there were several charity events arranged for her, tens of thousands of dollars were raised to pay for her treatments, people were going out of her way to drive her to appointments, etc. The woman was posting updates of her treatments, pictures of her with a bald head, and even medical bills for the treatments. Well, someone who actually worked at one of the hospitals she was getting treatment at asked her which doctors were treating her, and she couldn't name any. People noticed that her hair would start to grow back shortly after every bald photo. And someone called one of the hospitals wanting to pay any outstanding bills for her, lo and behold they had no record of her ever being a patient. A tip was submitted to police, and it took them about a day to contact the facilities where she claimed to be receiving treatment, none of them had any record of her. For about five years, she had faked the whole thing, going as far to create fake medical bills, shaving her head, and go hide in the hospital while whoever drove her sat in the waiting room.

Everyone was making a big deal about it. I looked over at this woman and I could see she was just seething with envy. I thought, oh crap, she's about to tell us she has a parrot and it's better somehow. And that's exactly what happened. She suddenly blurted out, "So what! I have a parrot too and mine's prettier! Mine's blue!" So I asked to see a picture of her parrot. Surely she had a picture on her phone, right? No, she didn't have any pictures. Well take a picture tonight and show us tomorrow. OK I will! The next day I asked to see that parrot but she forgot to take a pic. I asked her again t day after that. From then on anytime she tried to one-up anybody I asked to see her parrot and she shut up. After a while everyone else picked up of what was happening and they started asking for that picture too. She got so pissed she just stopped talking to us at all.

A woman I knew in college who was a known liar. She would tell you something one day and then tell you something completely different the next. For example, one day she could tell you she's gay and then tell you that she has a crush on a guy in swim class the next. One day a girl who lived in the same dorm as me took her own life by hanging. Her parents disowned her after she came out, was diagnosed mentally ill (bipolar), and started drinking with disastrous results. A memorial was held in her honor which had all of her closest friends give speeches about her including her girlfriend. Before her girlfriend went, the liar went and said that she and her were planning on running away together not knowing her girlfriend was at the memorial. Given her past, nobody believed her. She then said "Ok, I might have overstated our love for each other. We were in love but didn't plan on running away." Again, nobody believed her. She then said, "Ok, we were in love with each other but not in the ways I described." It eventually boiled down to her saying "Ok, Fine, we were never in love. In fact, I spat on her and beat her up because of the way she was. There! Are you fucking happy?" I turned to the bipolar woman's girlfriend who, let me just say that I have never seen anyone more angry in my entire life. She walked up to the liar and socked her square in the face. I think a couple of teeth came out. I don't have all the details but she was ignored by all of her classmates and teachers after that. TL;DR: Compulsive Lair tells a fake story of her and a dead bipolar lesbian at a memorial service for said bipolar lesbian, gets punched by GF.

I was in the USNavy. Never heard of a Crew Bar onboard. New one guy who distilled stuff onboard. But never a Crew Bar. Fun Fact: The difference between a sailor's sea story and a fairy tale is the opening line. A fairy tale start out, "Once upon a time....". A sea story starts out, "This ain't no sh!t.....". The two best (read funniest) lies I have been told by others are, 1) A low level manager of temp staff at a company I worked at claimed to have been in every branch of the military for at least 2 years each. He was 19 years old and had been out of high school for less than a year IIRC. 2) Same company different co-worker, claimed he made $400.00 an hour as a male prostitute in Dallas. Another worker of ours beat me to this when he retorted "Then why are you wasting your time here making a little over minimum wage?"

I own a white Ford Focus estate, but the police doesn't care that the model and body shape are different, so they would stop me anyway. It got so ridiculous that I got stopped three times on a single road once. Whenever I tell that story, I would say I got stopped four times, I have to make a conscious effort to stop myself from exaggerating numbers like that.

I had a coworker once who claimed that he had gotten engaged to his girlfriend within a month of meeting her at Starbucks. Then she was in the hospital with a life-threatening heart condition. Then it turned out she was pregnant with twins from her ex-boyfriend (coworker brought in an ultrasound he'd gotten off of Google as "proof" and went on about how he was looking forward to being a dad), but the ex was cool and supportive about it. Oh wait, the ex suddenly attempted to kidnap the fiancée's daughter from kindergarten (I guess she also had a daughter now?) But the police caught him, so coworker might have to miss work to support his fiancée while they take the matter to court. Except apparently it all got wrapped up within a week because he never mentioned it again. During all of this drama, my coworker also supposedly got baptized and joined a church. Then he started skipping out on his shifts because he was at a church service that ran long and his phone battery died so he couldn't call to let us know. Or another service just "popped up" all of a sudden. Don't you just hate those darn surprise church services that prevent you from getting to your evening work shift? Yeah, he didn't last much longer after he started pulling that nonsense. I know he at least had a girlfriend because she'd show up to say hi and he'd ditch his post to go make out with her sometimes. I never did work up the nerve to ask if she'd picked out names for the twins, though.

My grandmother used to lie anout everything, especially jobs and accomplishments. Everything was a competition with her. We figured out it would have taken several lifetimes for her to complete all the stuff she claimed. She was also an alcoholic so that explained a fair bit of it. Still sad though that she felt the need to make so much stuff up. I never knew the real her.

My first husband, my late husband. He lied a lot. About anything and everything. His own family wasn’t sure what was the truth. It was up to me to tell them. They still don’t know the truth about him. They see me as the bad guy for moving on a year later. That’s what he told me to do. They know this.

There was a kid I was in the same class from ages 10-12 who just always made up the weirdest lies that constantly escalated. For example one day he claimed he fought a 13 year old, then it was a 16 year old he won against and finally an adult he beat in a fight. There was also when he claimed to be a year older than the rest of us but wouldn't explain why so we set up the explanation of "either you're lying or you had to repeat a grade" which mostly shut him up until we all went to the next school where I didn't see much of him until I didn't see him at all. Turns out someone recorded him saying this to a girl "hey ___ I've been having some real feelings for you lately and was wondering if you'd like to have sex?" His social life was dead after that and he changed school's, we were 14 at that point.

A guy I knew in the navy tried to tell me the k k k was started in his hometown in Wisconsin. The family that started it was called the Kuklanski’s and he’d run into them from time to time. He was dead serious. Mind you, I am a history buff and grew up in the Deep South so he didn’t do a great job at convincing me.

I’ve told some doozies to get out of work and others that completely baffle me years ago. I totally flipped and strive to tell the truth now. I understand the thought process to a degree as cringe as it is. What I will never understand though is the stolen valor types. I worked with a dude at Starbucks that claimed he was a sniper and has 145 confirmed kills and 250 unconfirmed. So yes nearly 400. What confused me even further is we worked with 2 marines and everybody knew he was lying including them and he’d still try to shove this nonsense down peoples throat.

Unfortunately the biggest chronic liar I personally knew was my now dead brother (rip) from an early age he would like to get whatever he wanted and since he was a "pusher" that is he would push, lie and manipulate to get whatever he wanted he use to come up with stories about fights he'd get into, events that didn't happen and emotionally manipulate even our own grandparents to get money/sympathy and whatever he wanted. I loved him but towards the end I'd had my fill of his BS, the problem being that his BS was a crapshoot of lie and truth and they're were indistinguishable from one another

A perfect 99 on the ASVAB is really uncommon. The closest I've seen is a 96 from an incredibly smart friend I had in hs. Actually two from my large group did very well. One got 96, another got 92, and I got 89 cuss I did poorly on the engineering and general mechanical info section, but very good on the others. Now the lowest score I've ever seen? 9. A chick I was somewhat friends with scored a 9, and her bf at the time got a 14. I get that they probably weren't even trying, but still, some of those questions even a middle schooler could answer. All my friends from the main group I hung out with did pretty average to above average, but then again about half of us were try hards (myself included). If I'm completely honest I was pretty shocked at my score. I had thought I did much much worse since I only had a somewhat decent grasp on the answers for two whole sections. Oh well not like I'll ever be able to enlist, they don't take kindly to those with epilepsy after all. ASVAB is one of the dumbest things to lie about since even an average score is still considered to be good.

I’ve known this guy since I was 13 and ever since I’ve ever known him, he constantly brags about how many girls he brings home in a week. Every time I’d ask him how is weekend was, he’d go on a long story about the multiple women he slept with, but would refuse to give any evidence. He’s over 300lbs with a giant neck beard so obviously we had our doubts and nobody ever told him we knew his stories were BS. We’re in our 20s now and he still does this every time I see him

OMG, I hate these kind of people! I knew a few and talk about annoying. No matter what was going on they would steer the conversation to themselves then start the B.S. show. Nothing like working with a crew of six and that one guy has to top everyone with his fantasies. Like non stop manure flowing out both ends as they describe events that are a million to one odds of having any truth to it. Stories seem to be on a rotation involving ninjas, hot chicks, S.E.A.L. training, cars that go 200 mph, ripping stop signs out of the ground with their bare hands...etc..etc. The most annoying thing was when I would hear second hand accounts of stories they told where either I or my possessions were included. Like seriously, I'm not a secret military sniper just because I've got a deer rifle with a scope!
