Thumbs up if you're going to see DMB in 2022!! This band brought about my love for music especially playing guitar. I'll never forget my buddy Josh Sack (rip) telling me to go out and get UTTAD back in 1994. Almost 30 years and over a hundred shows later, this band's music still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. And seeing them after being locked down/covid makes each show that much sweeter. I hope they tour forever!!!!

I was 29 and driving to work the first time I heard DMB on the radio. I was mesmerized by the voice, the unique mix of instruments and I just felt it in a way that's hard to describe. I was an instant fan of this band. I left work when the stores opened each time a new album dropped. Attended every concert in the DFW area and it was my son's first concert when he was 13. I'm 55 now and still adore this band. I think they'll forever be my favorite.

Just makes me appreciate the band and Dave even more, l have been listening to the Dave Matthews Band for over 25 years now and love every song. My Wife surprised me with Tickets to one of his shows and blew her Mind when we got there. She looked at me and said l finally understand what you have been talking about, Dave Matthews has the voice and energy to get your emotions with your good times, your bad times, and the messed up things you've done in you're life, all in a song. Carter Beauford just is an outstanding drummer, and matching with Dave singing, it's just crazy to think that what they all started is still just as good and don't give in to mainstream media. The Dave Matthews Band is and forever will be cherished in my heart, from the first time l heard them, until the last time I hear them that sound they have is BEAUTIFUL

If my memory is correct, I first saw DMB on a Friday night at Trax when they opened for the Smithereens. Had never heard or heard of DMB. As I was walking in I heard them playing from outside and I was immediately blown away or entranced. I stood watching the rest of their show in awe. Never heard a band groove like them…except maybe the very early Beatles. After the Smithereens came on, I watched about three songs and left…what was the point? The next day as I was working at a local car dealer some guys came in the buy a car and I started telling them about this amazing band I saw the night before. Turned out, one of the guys was close to or worked with DMB. When they played the Bayou in Georgetown, I invited music friends to go along. I’d been to the Bayou a hundred times…that was the most packed I had ever seen it. Next time and last time I saw them was probably in 96 or 97 at the Nissan Pavilion in Gainsville. Great show! I routinely get through Batesville and sometimes walk dogs there with my daughter and I point out to her the field where DMB played one of their early shows. Last time I checked there’s still a stage in that field…wonder if it’s the same one they played on. That’s my DMB story.

First time I heard DMB was on a radio promo cassette that one of my friends was just given by a dude who worked at a station here in Norway. I think they were just giving away tapes that they weren't going to play, stuff that didn't fit what the station was doing. Anyways, I listened to that tape over and over and over and over for weeks. It was the Under the Table and Dreaming radio promo tape. I had just started playing drums, and Carter instantly became my favorite drummer. The stuff he was doing with the hi hat was so inspiring to me. I'd never heard anyone use a hi hat like that.. It was always just ticking away quarters or 8th notes in 99% of the music I listened to, and here comes Carter just doing NONE of that. The songs themselves were also unlike anything I'd ever heard. It was truly different. This must have been around 94-95 I think. Been a fan ever since. Never seen them live, they're one of the very few bands that make me wish I had the mental fortitude to deal with large crowds. I've seen so many live videos, and they're so god damn amazing live it's crazy.

I think when Jerry Garcia passed away in 1995, it greatly increased the DMB fanbase. Many of the dead fans split between DMB and Phish when looking for another live improv band to follow. Other bands like Widespread Panic, String Cheese, moe., and others also gained new fans too, but not in the numbers that DMB and Phish saw. Eventually with DMB's mainstream success and frat-based crowd, Phish won the majority of jamband fans over. Eventually Grateful Dead off-shoots like The Dead, Dead & Company, Phil & Friends, Bobby & Ratdog, etc pulled their loyal base back. However, that blast of support for DMB in 95, 96, 97 should be considered when talking about DMB's growth in my opinion. Food for thought.

Yes...I actually saw DMB at The Horde at Bud Lake 94 but was more jazzed on Rusted Root at the time...and of course the Allman Bros...but then Jerry died and I left music for a long time...until my buddy had me visit him at the jazz conservatory at Berkley...it brought music back and so much deeper, and some how I just kind missed the DMB bus. Couple years later I took a trip in the desert, there was no radio signal for miles so stopped at a gas station to pick up a tape or cd...they had Minnie Pearl Greatest hits and DMB Some Dead ...listened to it about 10 times in a row from Vegas up to Dixie Forest Utah and back again. My beautiful wife almost passed out cuz she wouldn't keep drinking water and it was 105 in a convertible ....I kept listening as she slept...she has since passed away...that album brings back a memory that is haunting. Sorry to puke this here but the vid triggered a lot of memories.

Great points. I think the variety of their instruments pulled in a lot of fans of bluegrass, as well

I became a fan of this band on April 23, 1994- when they played in the backyard of my fraternity's (Sigma Chi) house @ West Virginia University.

Too cool! There's a popular photo from that performance, but no audio recording (even though DMB allowed SBD patches at the time) . Do you recall anyone in your fraternity ever having a copy of that show on tape? Was on a hunt for lost cassettes a year or two back but never got a lead in this one (or even confirmation someone ever had a copy).

@Copperpot-OEW5 To my knowledge, I don't believe there's been any recording of the Derby Days show. If there was, it would've circulated by now. And yes, the photo you are referring to is legendary. In fact, it's hanging on the wall in the fraternity house (at least 12 years ago it was).

@@OneEyedWilly5imagine being able to patch into the soundboard. Gotta love bands that allow that.

I'm just here to find out what the big deal is. I've seen Dave live at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, NY and I had a good time I guess, but I know literally nothing about the man or his band, so here I am I guess! Thanks for the video!
