1. Sign me up for giveaway, please! 2. Love that these don't require a hub. I purchased smart plugs a few months ago not realizing they required a hub and they're collecting dust atm. 3. Most importantly, THAT CLOCK! Diy? Purchasable? Waaaant. Thanks for the videos, the casual format/feel suits you.

So glad to have found this channel. I've been growing indoors for 20 years but I'm VERY new to led growing so I'm rocking mechanical timers...but, I'll upgrade come payday! Thanks for the information!

Super simple to set up! Plug it in, download the Smart Life app and sync! The instructions for these were very clear. Then getting Alexa to find them took some effort but with the help of customer support I can enable the smart life skill on my Alexa

Great idea but.... If its switching a power supply that has any capacitors in it they will draw a ton of amps whilst turning on said device (ten times rated power) I'd always go for a good old mechanical or an excellent "grasslin" timer. The problem is with tiny timers is that switch (relay) can get stuck on or off due to arcing and build-up of salts, solid-state relays are loads better but about £10 for that part alone.
@GrowingAnswers4 жыл бұрын
Resonant consciousness it’s a mechanical switch just like the rotary mechanical timers have. I’m guessing it’s diode triggered.

So in theory this should work with a grow led light right? I should be able to set timers and make them start on a low dim setting and work their way up? And if so does the Gosund power bricks work as same as these plugs and be able to do all that for a growing light? Great video man :)

@@GrowingAnswers Sounds great man, do you have a video of how they all work or are you planning to make one? I wanna make a grow room as automatic as possible and would love instructions because i'm pretty new to all this😄
@GrowingAnswers3 жыл бұрын
@@Punkt44a It’s pretty straightforward. You just program the timer with the app. Then you can label them in the app so you know which one is where. I have my tents numbered which correlate with the smart timers inside and in the app it’s labeled with the hours they are on for.
@Punkt44a3 жыл бұрын
@@GrowingAnswers but can you connect a growlight to it and make it come on at a certain brightness level? And also dim it down in the app?😄

If you can access it remotely, that means the company who makes it can also access it remotely, as can hackers and spooks. So there is some downside to this kind of functionality. Furthermore it’s likely these devices have small linux computers in them, so the company / a hacker can likely login remotely to your smart plug and then spy on your WiFi network / hack into stuff at your house. Companies who make cheap and simple devices like this are generally terrible at security. Even just by knowing what devices are on and when manual activity is happening this kind of tech can potentially reveal your habits, when you’re home, etc. Caveat emptor. Cheers!

BobWidlefish I feel that’s the least of our concerns as consumers in today’s world. Amazon Alexa, google, Siri are all listing all the time. Just having a smart phone on person all the time tracks all that stuff too. The only way to avoid those concerns is to not have internet at all. However these don’t need to have an internet connection for basic function. And you can still use them with a WiFi router that doesn’t have an internet connection if you want to use them for remote switching with a phone or tablet.

*@Growing Answers* believe me when I say that I know all this. :) None of what you said contradicts my comment. Caveat emptor. The same applies to many kinds of technologies, it’s true. That doesn’t mean we should just accept it blindly. We should know what the risks are and judge for ourselves. Most people don’t know the risks like you do. Cheers!

I'd love to try these plugs, please count me in for the giveaway. I've tried a couple other brands, cheaper than these, and you get what you pay for I guess. There were very difficult to set up (often arbitrarily talking 2 to 9 to infinite tries), and sometimes they are inexplicably "offline" when they are scheduled to switch on or off, so they aren't reliable for plants and aquariums. I hope this brand is better.
