Pre built keyboard usually only support 3 pins switches, so you do have to clip the other two legs off. If youre into custom mechanical keyboards like Kbdfans, Mode Design, Cannon Keys, Monokei, etc, typically the pcb support 5 pins switches and you do have to solder them, unless you solder in a hotswap socket (Kailh/ millmax socket).

@@gvnady8380 it's not about 5-pin vs 3-pin, the issue is the outemu hotswap sockets are too narrow to accept pins from any other switches. so you'd have to trim/pinch them or replace the sockets

Hey man how did you add gateron switches to the tecware phantom?
@gvnady83803 жыл бұрын
Techware Phantom is a hotswap keyboard, meaning you can take off the switch and replace it with other switch, usually it use a Kailh hotswap socket. But it only support 3 pins switches and stabs only support plate mount (not pcb mount stabs; pcb mount stabs you have to screw the stabs on to the pcb). If you buy a switch with 5 pins, you have to clip off the other two legs with a nipper (a nipper used for gunpla will do), to fit in the switch.
