I ordered and installed uConnect 4c 8.4 ($1,000 new) climate and volume control panel ($45) and instrument cluster control ($80) in a Jeep Compass 2018. Installation was very easy thanks to this and many other videos on KZbin. The fun began when switching the car on. Mileage was wrong and needs to be corrected by dealer (if they will even do it). The uConnect has issues: no sound when using steering wheel volume control or the volume knob. Also, the backup camera does not come on (the main reason why I bought the uConnect). Lastly, when the radio boots up it displays the Chrysler logo and not the Jeep logo 😢. Anyway, I plan to take the car to a Jeep service center tomorrow for proxy alignment and mileage reset. I hope it works ….

So quick update... I took my 2018 Jeep Compass to the Jeep dealership. They had it for 3 days and $400 later....for 2 hours labor.....yes freaking ridiculous! I had to pay it else they would not release my car. After some minutes of me questioning and arguing I realized there was no point .....(Side story, I have bought 4 Jeeps from them before and I was told I am a platinum customer - yeah effing right !?) They "could not" reset the milage to the original milage, but they stopped the flashing milage> Keep in mind they confirmed with me that it's no problem to reset the milage prior to me dropping the car off at the dealership (I just ordered another instrument display cluster with the same original milage - another $102!) uConnect is working and now booting as Jeep, and the backup camera is working....well, actually it does not show the radio station logos graphics (I guess it is because no SAT cable connected, but I will order one anyway) The climate and volume control cluster is partially working. Radio volume and Tuning dials/knobs are working. HVAC controls does not work and it shuts off the HVAC when ever you turn the fan or turn the heat knob. They (apparently) did try add it as a feature to my VIN and did proxy alignment. I had no choice and replaced it with the original unit (took about 5 mins), thus volume control is only possible on the steering wheel. It is what it is and my kid must just live with it. I am not spending more time with ODBLink, Security by-pass unit and Alfaodb as mentioned in the other comments below. All-in-all, from the time I ordered and installed all the parts and got the car back from the dealer it took me about 2 weeks to get to this state. Parts cost me $1200 (including brand new uConnect 8.4') and $400 for proxy alignment . So still $1,600 less than what the dealer quoted me for parts and labor

how did you get the climate control wired in? The RA2 radio with basic climate control panel has to different has a different connect on the back than the RA4 stereo with the climate control you installed.

Thanks for the video. Ordered the 8 .4 uConnent but forgot the climate control panel with the volume control. That should be in Thursday or Friday (05/26/22 05/27/22). I may end up ordering a better bezel.

@@KuduBal I had to trim down my factory installed bezel to get the bezel to snap back down. You will need to have a proxy alignment down for the climate control panel to work correctly

@@rickplaskon4298 Jeep dealer did the proxy alignment but could not get it work. Radio volume control and tuner worked, but as soon as you turn up the fan the hvac shuts down. I put the original one back :-(

I did the swap from 5.0 to the RA3 8.4 and the install was easy however it won’t go to the anti theft pin pad it just keeps saying radio locked. I’ve tried everything from resets, letting it sit and cycling. The odometer does blink to🙃

i tell you where to get a code for the anti theft in the video 😎, yes the odomter will blink, you need to do a proxy alignment with software called AlfaOBD to make the blinking stop. the dealership WILL NOT do the proxy alignment to stop the blinking

yup the climate controls worked, just remember the only way control the radio volume at that point is on the steering wheel

South Hawk Computing LLC Yes with the original climate control there’s not a volume knob, and must be controlled by the wheel volume. But, did the new controls (w/ volume knob), work 100% fine after the alignment? Therefor giving you a volume knob and a dual zone climate range additional to the vehicle?

South Hawk Computing LLC Thank you for your help! I followed your video for installing the new cluster and it looks great. Assuming you don’t already have them on your model, you should do a “Fog Light install”. They sell OEM fog light sets for around $60-80 with dog light trim. Haven’t seen a video for it yet!

@@southhawkllc I can help you get the controllers to work. You need AlfaOBD to change the control configuration from manual to automatic. And then they will work.

if you swap the controls you might have to reprogram the cars computer with something like AlfaOBD so your car knows about the different type of controls. I know i had to do this when i swapped my climate controls. i'm not sure if AlfaOBD works with your vehicle.

Hey before the UC you had an android headunit. How did that work out? Did your dimmer and heated seat function work?

I got my compass with the basic radio which gave physical buttons for the heated seats. The problem was the android head unit was keeping keeping some sub system running on draining the battery, so if i didnt drive the car for 3 days i'd have a dead battery. If metra has a new firmware for the wiring harness maybe they found a way to make the car's computer happy. I installed LED tailights, and they would have a tiny glow when i had the android head unit installed all the time. once i went to Uconnect, they stopped glowing after 5 mins.

I just found an 8.4” from a salvage yard and ordered it to replace my 5”. Do you have to find a new instrument cluster as well if yours doesn’t have the technology package?

nice how much are they going for these days? no you do not have to upgrade your instrument cluster, however your odometer may constantly blink

Hiiii, thanks for the video, inspired me and I swapped from 5" to 7" screen, using volume through steering wheel, all good but odometer flashing when switch on, dealer was not successful in proxi alignment, can you please give some suggestions resolve this issue?

@@southhawkllc already gone through this and also most of the forums 😜, but it's too complicated, if you have any info or video on how dealership done proxi alignment, I guess my service center not tried honestly , even I tried show some video from infotainment.com to them, they lack interest 😒

@@sahantheethi7528 the dealership wont be able to fix it because the serial number of the new radio is linked to the VIN of the original car it came out of. As a result, the only way the dealer can stop the blinking is ...you'd have to have the dealer add "features" to your VIN that matches the specs of the donor car. I find this out recently. The only way to stop the blinking is by using the AlfaODB software.

@South Hawk Computing LLC did the proxy alignment at dealer get both the 8.4 uconnect screen and climate controls working? Or is there more to do to get climate controls working?

If the unconect is no not working, you'll need a piece of software called "AlfaOBD" to tell the car's computer you have a different radio AND you have to tell the car's computer that you have different climate controls as well. AlfaOBD will do this and perform the proxy alignment after you made the changes. The dealer is unable to change the computer settings because your car's configuration based on your VIN from jeep. It's a nightmare trying to get jeep to "allow" these new features/upgrades on your car ..... the forum "myjeepcompass" has more info on how to use AlfaOBD.

You need a proxy alignment, use AlfaOBD and the gray cable Multicuscan cable, depending on your year you may also need a Security Bypass Module.
