Thanks, a helpful video. My C4 Picasso was built on June 23, 2017. This was a Friday. Hope it wasn't in the afternoon. The car has driven 112,000 Km (approx. 69,600 miles) without significant problems. A nice car that I will keep for a long time. Keep up the good work :)

Case in point. The Aust. Govt. introduced higher import duties starting 1/1/75. Because of this Citroen (and many other importers) imported a heap of D SPECIALS in 1974 and compliance stamped them 12/74 to avoid the new tax. Mine is a 12/74 car but was not registered until 9/75. Build date in France was early 74. 3 dates but the build date is the one to use.

Thats quite clever, Ive had issues with my ford sierra as 1985 was a cross over year for the mk1 changing some certain parts. Had issues finding front brake hoses for a 85 sierra with the earlier design going thru the inner guard and the later being different design.

Great system isn't it? On the Dutch Citroën forum some people post ORGA numbers of their cars in the signature. For my Volvos I needed to go to a friend who works at a main dealer to retrieve this information, it is all there but not as easy as an ORGA number.

Hello, I'm one of them computer nerds. We have a similar thing called the Unix Epoch (where '0' was January 1st, 1970 00:00:00) - and every _second_ since then gets added to the number. It's insanely useful, as time zones are a pickle, and daylight savings are worse. This way, we can convert the _actual_ number into whatever local we're in and use it in a more person friendly way. Love the old french rubbish, it's a perversion of mine also. Big Love

Richard, this would've been useful when I had to replace my front blower motor on my 2008 C4 Gradn Picasso. I had problems sourcing a new blower motor because there was a change with the part. I ended up buying a used part.

I've had to enter my 206s' number so many times for Peugeot Planet 2000 (P2000) for scanning the car and doing various things that I just know it. 10571 83 incidating that it was build Tuesday 18th October 2005 and 83 meaning it was build at the Ryton plant outside Coventry. Useful for indicating age of the car and being precise with what is and isn't a facelift, what part revision something should be, multiplexed wiring or not etc. But as usual very useful video that will help many I'm sure 👍 Definitely right on the registration bit, my 206 wasn't registered until late march 2006 despite being built in Oct 2005 while my R56 mini was built 22nd march 2007 and registered 16th April 2007, definitely a much smaller gap. Depends on the car.

My Mk2 Dispatch has one (sticker on the driver's door itself), which means Fiat Scudos and Toyota Proaces should do too, and presumably the later Vauxhall/Opel Vivaros. Maybe we'll see them on Chrysler group products eventually...

I used to own a 95 Citreon ZX 1.4i Dimension this was about 12 years ago (loved that thing!!). I'm now wondering that, back then, if knew it's ORGA number I wouldn't had to spend half an hour with a motor factors, when I was looking for a replacement rear exhaust section explaining to them that this was not a poverty spec Reflex with the regular elbowed down tailpipe but this was an "Dimension" special edition that featured a cut away in the rear bumper for the chrome oval ended tail pipe (similar to a Furio or Volcane). In the end simply said...yeah it's a Furio!!

I am enough of a nerd to be tempted to see if my C1 does indeed have an RP number. The C1, 107, 108 and Aygo was built by TPCA in Kolin, Czech Republic. Not sure if it was under the care of Peugeot Citroen or under the care of all 3 (Peugeot, Citroen & Toyota).

What about the chassis number? Car repair shops here in Switzerland can do anything with that number. Moreover you can ask the conservatoire about your car (for a “little” fee)

The AX was almost certainly built in Aulnay (like the CX), whereas the C5 is probably from Rennes (like a BX)

I think at least the aygo mk1 wont't have it because they are toyotas through and through. Whne I worked in a peugeot dealership it used to be easier to borrow a toyota computer from the dealer next door if you for example wanted to program keys on a 107. Thats really not a guarantee though.

Very interesting, thank you. My Xantia was made on 2 July 97 (7541) & registered 57 days later. The site of manufacture (u7) is below the RP# rather than at the end of it. Did the cars built in UK not have a code? I also have a number stamped updsidedown above the RP number (3630M1797) which doesn't correspond to any number in the v5. Do you know what this relates to?

Thanks, we have a 2CV that was first registered in 1988, but the RP number (4096) indicates that it was manufactured 30th December 1987. I am hoping that DVLA accept that when it comes to registering as a historic vehicle.

Yes I fully agree since I think the government is such a scam making people prove a car was built before 1st Jan 1983 (or current year - 40 to be technical) since they make everyone wait for their car to be 41 before it becomes tax exempt, currently got this with my fathers Mk1 golf GTi, registered early march 1983 but probably build in 1982. Unfortunately government will want a letter from the manufacturer stating car with this VIN was built before the date they are looking for. Simply relying on the build number probably don't cut it for them.

They actually replied, but instead of giving the confirmation they directed me to their site where I could apply for a certificate of conformity, at a cost of 220 euros! The 2cvgb club offer a dating service (!) for only £25.
